I woke up the next morning to the sounds of people walking around.

"Is Sleeping Beauty up yet?" asked one of the guys on Wei Xiao Li’s team. "We need to get going."

I wanted to roll my eyes; I really did.

The only reason why he was still alive was because of me. But did I open my mouth to say such a snarky comment? Nope.

Instead, I smiled at him. "I’m awake," I murmured, trying to cut off the yawn. I was still draining the life force from the zombies and sending it out as far as I could reach. Which, given the fact that I was connected to a whole network of roots, was pretty damn far.

"Are you okay?" asked Ye Yao Zu, still holding me.

"I feel like I am riding a tiger with no idea how to get off," I replied, my smile becoming somewhat strained now that I no longer had to fake it.

He nodded his head like he understood exactly what I was trying to say and then thought for an instant.

"Can you just let go?" he said after some consideration. I thought about it, weighing the pros and cons of just letting go of the zombies.

I think the worst part for me was not being able to judge their reaction. Would they continue to leave us alone, knowing what could happen? Or were they dumb enough to forget and come after us again?

Then again, did it really matter if they did or not? There was nothing saying that I couldn’t drain them again if needed.

Nodding my head, I severed the connection between me and the zombies but kept the one between me and the roots open.

I was hoping that this way, I would be able to feel any type of movement and know if the zombies were regrouping for a second attack.

That was an absolutely horrible decision and lasted all of five minutes once we got on the road.

I could feel the animals, both those on the land and in the trees. I could feel the wind caressing the grass as well as zombies off in the distance.

In fact, I was feeling so much that I was completely overloaded.

Shutting off that connection, I let out a sigh.

"I am not going to be able to know if something is coming," I admitted. I was currently walking in a circle of the guys, the grass beneath our feet forcing us to slow down so we didn’t trip over any of the cracks in the cement under us.

Cheng Bo Jing shrugged his massive shoulders and smiled down at me. "If the rest of us can’t figure out if there are zombies around, we don’t really deserve to live after all this time. Just relax. If we need you, you will be the first to know."

"Are you sure?" I asked, needing that confirmation and comfort. Cheng Bo Jing had yet to lie to me, and I really didn’t think that he was going to start now.

"I’m sure. Besides, we can always throw our fearless leader at the horde and run away with you over my shoulders," chuckled Cheng Bo Jing, and the rest of the guys joined in. All but Bai Long Qiang, who just rolled his eyes.

"We’ll go with his plan," he assured me before swooping down to give me a kiss before continuing on our way.

"We are almost there," grunted Wei Xiao Li. I could hear his voice, but since Rip was the one in front of me right now, there was no way I was going to be able to see the man. "Just to give you a heads up, you are going to be dealing mostly with Wan Ying as the second in command. But if you should meet Liu Hao Yu, you need to be respectful."

"Liu Hao Yu?" I asked, confused. The last name sounded familiar, but I wasn’t too sure how or why.

"He is the head of the Red Dragon Syndicate," grunted Cheng Bo Jing, his hands tightening on his gun. The metal under his skin swirled around, creating new designs until it finally managed to settle down. Apparently, whoever this Liu Hao Yu man is, he made Cheng Bo Jing anxious.

"He is Liu Wei and Liu Yu Zeng’s grandfather," murmured Fan Teng Fei softly, but the fighting power user on the other side still heard him.

"How do you know those names?" he hissed, not wanting to tell Wei Xiao Li what he had heard. "Those two are traitors, along with Chen Zi Han."

"They are married to someone we know," answered Ye Yao Zu, a strained smile on his face.

I guess he was about as comfortable as I was with this whole conversation.

"That bitch," growled Wei Xiao Li. "You might want to keep your mouth shut about her. She burned down our home and killed the daughter of the Black Mountain Syndicate. You don’t want to be making enemies out of both of us."

"I don’t think that is possible," I shrugged. "We are on pretty good terms with the Black Mountain Syndicate. And if you are talking about Wu Ying Tai, she is alive and well."

"Her?" sneered the fighting power user. "She is too weak to lead the clan. No, we are talking about Wu Bai Hee. Liu Wei’s fiancé."

"Wu Bai Hee?" I asked through clenched teeth. It seemed like everywhere I went, I heard her name mentioned. She seemed to have her hand in so many pots it was a miracle that she was still alive right now.

Like seriously.... How had no one killed her yet?

"She is still very much alive," sighed Bin An Sha, clearly on the same lines that I was. "She is pregnant and expecting a child in the next few months."

"What? But we saw her burn to death," stated Wei Xiao Li, coming to a dead stop before turning around and looking at us.

"Not possible. She is alive and well, living as the Princess of City A Sanctuary," informed Si Dong with a bright smile on his face. Ah, the man just loved stirring the pot.

"In fact, she is the one that sent us out on this mission to collect glassware, vases, and 500-count sheets," shrugged Fan Teng Fei, adding more fuel to the fire.

"I don’t believe you," grunted Wei Xiao Li before he started walking again. "It’s not possible. Our head has been mourning her for the past few years now, ever since she died."
