Chapter 156: He Was Dying
Chapter 156: He Was Dying
Si Dong looked around the area surrounded by cages and suppressed the rage he was feeling inside.
If he thought the way the fighters were treated was inhumane, it was nothing compared to how the women were being treated.
He didn’t want to stay here a moment longer than they needed to, and in order to be on their way, he had to smooth out any tension between the two groups.
And that was only because he knew they weren’t strong enough to kill the men... yet.
"Please don’t kill him," said Ye Yao Zu as he placed his hand on Bai Long Qiang’s shoulder. Clearly, the other man had the same opinion that he did. "He is a good man and loves her."
"As much as you do?" Now, Si Dong had never hit a woman in his life, and that was only because he had yet to meet one who deserved it. The military accepted both men and women and for that reason alone, he was prepared to do what he had to do, no matter the gender.
But this woman was asking for a beating. Was she really trying to stir the pot? The smirk on her face said that she knew exactly what she was doing and did it anyway.
Fucking bitch.
"What?" screamed Bai Long Qiang as he turned around to look at Ye Yao Zu. "You bastard!" He raised his hand to take a swing at his best friend, only to be frozen mid-strike.
"You are an idiot. Do you really think that you are strong enough to look after and protect your woman by yourself? Have you not been paying attention to the world around you lately?" demanded Wang Chao.
Si Dong snorted quietly to himself, happy that one spirit user couldn’t read another. If he thought that Bai Long Qiang was upset because his wife outed him, he was wrong.
He was more pissed off that his best friend hadn’t told him.
To him, it was the ultimate betrayal that Ye Yao Zu didn’t feel comfortable enough with their relationship that he couldn’t discuss his feelings.
Huh, maybe the rest of them should confess too before the bitch ratted them out too.
"Just because you are weak doesn’t mean that I am," sneered Bai Long Qiang. Ah, yes, how about they didn’t piss off someone that just took out a whole Reaver camp with a wave of his hand.
Si Dong wrinkled his nose but knew that Bai Long Qiang was just pissed off and lashing out at everyone right now. Sometimes, reading minds made things so much easier.
"I’m sorry, did I forget to introduce you two?" said the little shit disturber because she couldn’t leave well enough alone.
"We’ve met... at the meeting in City Y," dismissed Bai Long Qiang as if it was nothing, but sometimes the best way to get information on the enemy was to think that you were stupider than you appeared.
They needed to know who they were dealing with if they were going to get their girl out of their grasp without hurting her.
"No, you really didn’t. Bai Long Qiang, allow me to introduce War, the second horseman of the apocalypse."
Well, it was official... they were screwed. How could humans fight against gods and legendary creatures?
No, he wouldn’t think that way. They might be gods, but even they had to have some type of weakness... it was just a matter of finding it.
"And you really expect me to believe that?" snorted Bai Long Qiang. Si Dong looked back and forth between the two, ready to step in if needed. If she found out that she was being played for more information, things could go south fast.
"Nope," she snorted, and Si Dong felt Fan Teng Fei stiffen beside him. By her simply saying no, she was really saying yes. People tended to go all in with a lie... as if by reinforcing it made it more believable. The fact that she wasn’t defending her earlier statement meant that she was telling the truth.
Well, fuck.
"Because that would be asinine, right?" she continued with a shake of her head.
Cheng Bo Jing quickly looked over at the other three men. Bai Long Qiang was taking up all of her attention, and she wasn’t paying attention to them...
But that didn’t mean that her men weren’t.
"The Horsemen are nothing but a made-up myth from a long ago religion. They have no basis in reality or fact," continued Bai Long Qiang, going for broke. Cheng Bo Jing was surprised that Wang Chao wasn’t putting a stop to it.
It was literally a textbook interrogation method that he should know...
Unless he didn’t care....
"Understood," nodded the woman, effectively closing down the conversation. Cheng Bo Jing would have to find the nearest library to do research on the Four Horsemen. Without the internet, he no longer had the information at his fingertips, and if these men were going to be a problem, he needed to know how to take them out.
Gods died every day; it was just a matter of figuring out how.
"How about we get out of here?" she continued, looking at the men around her.
"Let’s not be too hasty," said one of her men with silver eyes as he stepped out of the shadows, dragging a familiar figure behind him.
He had the Alpha.
----
Rip watched the man dump the body of the Alpha in front of Li Dai Lu, and his eyes narrowed.
His Little Bird had yet to wake up, and getting some more food inside of her wouldn’t be that bad of a thing. Even if the boost in energy didn’t help, it wouldn’t harm her.
He took a step forward, ready to push the others out of the way if necessary, but then he saw it. The Alpha had a look of rage and confusion on his face, and he was covered in what looked to be black worms.
Fuck. He was dying. There was no way that he would let his woman touch him now. He didn’t want to take the chance that her power would be sucked into him since he was injured and not the other way around.
