Chapter 1228: Chapter 1228: She Wants to Call Me Aunt
A year later.
Old York, early morning, clear skies.
The winter streets of Old York still carried an infinite fashion sense, with vibrant posters and exhibitions visible everywhere.
Jasmine Yale, wrapped in a thick white down jacket, emerged from the subway station.
In a year’s time, her hair had grown long, with slightly curled tips.
Around her neck was a wine-red scarf, covering half her face, leaving only her big, watery eyes visible in the chill wind.
A short walk from the subway station was Ann Nolan’s house.
Jasmine tucked her hands into the warm pockets of her down jacket, unfazed by the cold as she walked through the freezing wind.
Fresh snow from yesterday still covered the roadside bushes in a thin white layer, not yet melted.
The treetops were adorned with icicles and frost, which gleamed with an iridescent luster under the sunlight, a beautiful sight.
On Jasmine’s shoulder hung a bag containing gifts for the little baby.
If it weren’t for the final exams and the New Year’s Eve gala, she would have come to Old York sooner.
The delay meant that the little baby was already over two months old.
At the doorway, Jasmine knocked on the door.
She could hardly contain her excitement within.
Ah, the little baby, she adored little babies, especially Ann Nolan’s baby!
The door was opened by Ann’s nanny—Aunt Waverly, a kind, approachable, and honest middle-aged woman in her forties.
"Miss Yale?" Aunt Waverly asked from the doorway.
"Yes, I’m Jasmine Yale, Ann’s friend."
"I know, I know. Miss Yale, please come in. It’s cold outside, isn’t it? It’s warm inside."
"Where is Ann?" Jasmine looked around as she stood at the doorway.
Ann had moved to a bigger place, a standard three-bedroom apartment. Although rented, it was spacious and suitable for living.
This year, Jasmine knew Ann’s work was going very well. Even during her pregnancy, she was advancing steadily and performing her duties with dedication.
Lately, Ann had been on leave, reportedly under the strict orders of Evan Guerrero, who would not allow her to go to the office.
"Miss Nolan is in the bedroom, soothing the baby."
"Ah," Jasmine tiptoed quietly, lowering her voice, "I want to take a look."
"Sure, Miss Nolan specifically asked me to expect a guest."
"Is the baby well-behaved?" Jasmine asked, looking down to change into slippers.
"Fussy, was fussy all night, just tired out and asleep now," Aunt Waverly said with a smile.
The whole house was especially warm, in stark contrast to the outside.
The house was filled with the scent of milk, the unique fragrance of a little baby.
Jasmine’s heart throbbed with anticipation to see the baby.
Ann just happened to come out of the bedroom, wearing a loose light-pink house dress, her hair undone and casual, her face glowing with health and plumpness, a very good complexion.
"Jasmine, you’re here. Is it very cold?"
"Did I come a bit early?" Jasmine smiled.
"You’ve had a hard journey coming from Cakago." Ann poured her a cup of hot water, "Sit down, Little Candy has just fallen asleep. She was quite fussy. I’ll show you her in a while."
Ann’s face showed signs of fatigue, but it couldn’t hide her joy, which radiated from inside.
Jasmine looked at her with envy.
Ann had changed a lot; truly, a woman becomes different once she becomes a mother.
"I brought gifts for Little Candy." Jasmine set down her backpack.
She had bought Little Candy clothes, toys, and a silver bracelet.
"How about I put the bracelet on her later? She should call me ’Auntie’ from now on." Jasmine was very happy.
"Sure, the little one will be very happy about that."
