Chapter 1227: Chapter 1227: Born Without a Father
Jasmine Yale looked at Ann Nolan, her face still full of surprise.
Ann Nolan offered a wry smile, but was completely calm, "I’m pregnant, a little over a month."
This left Jasmine Yale even more astonished!
No wonder she thought Ann Nolan looked rosier and seemed different in a way she couldn’t place. It turned out Ann was going to be a mother.
"This..." Jasmine stared wide-eyed, overwhelmed by a flood of emotions, suddenly unsure of what to ask.
Ann Nolan patiently explained, "I found out the day we divorced. It’s Zaiden Santos’s child."
"Does he know?"
"He doesn’t know," Ann Nolan shook her head, "Evan Guerrero knows."
"Weren’t you always taking the pill?"
"I took the pills to the hospital for a doctor to check. The doctor said that my contraceptive pills had been switched long ago. In other words, what I’ve been taking hasn’t been contraceptive pills at all," Ann Nolan said, as if recounting something utterly mundane.
The only person who knew about that bottle of pills was Zaiden Santos.
And the only one who could have exchanged them would also be Zaiden Santos.
When had he switched her pills? Ann Nolan guessed it was probably the first time he found out she was taking contraceptives.
However, she hadn’t gotten pregnant those few times.
By a strange twist of fate, this time, she did.
Ann Nolan guessed the reason behind Zaiden Santos’s actions; Grandfather Santos had always wanted a grandson. By switching her pills, Zaiden was undoubtedly trying to have a child to win Grandfather Santos’s favor.
But he never considered things from the child’s perspective.
A child is not a tool for competing for resources...
Jasmine Yale’s eyes widened again, finding it all unbelievable.
"Ann, so you’re planning to have the child? But it will be very tough for you to raise a child alone."
"It’s okay, my income is sufficient, it’s just going to require some effort."
"You’re not planning on telling Zaiden Santos?"
"There’s no need," Ann Nolan smiled, "We’re already divorced and there won’t be any interaction between us in the future. He’s in Landon, I’m in Old York. It’s unlikely that we’ll ever meet again."
Jasmine Yale thought it over carefully and realized that made sense.
After the divorce, it was unlikely that there would be any interaction.
Moreover, they would both start their own families.
Ann Nolan’s eyes still held a tender sentiment.
This decision was the result of her calm reflections over the past few days; in her heart, she couldn’t bear to part with the child.
With her capabilities, raising a child wouldn’t be a problem, it’s just that she would be somewhat unfair to the child.
The baby would be born without a father.
But the thought of going to the hospital to end this little life was something she simply couldn’t bring herself to do.
"Ann, having the baby is good, too. One’s own child is always precious," Jasmine Yale smiled.
She didn’t tell Ann Nolan that she had once been pregnant, too.
Her thoughts had mirrored Ann Nolan’s at the time; learning of her pregnancy had also been filled with panic and unease, but she too had chosen to have the baby.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t keep her baby in the end.
So now, she firmly stood with Ann Nolan.
Her own child, no matter what, would always be cherished.
"Jasmine, please keep this a secret for me, I don’t want Zaiden Santos to know."
"Absolutely," Jasmine Yale nodded.
She and Zaiden Santos had no connection, and she definitely wouldn’t gossip about this matter.
"Have a cookie. Later, we can take a walk down the street together." Ann Nolan’s face was adorned with a sweet smile from beginning to end.
All of the fright, fear, and anxiety from the past few days had vanished. Now, the only thought in her mind was to live well and make a fresh start.
On the bustling streets of Old York,
the sunlight poured down like shattered gold, resplendent and brilliant.
