Chapter 241: Chapter 190 Too Hot to Handle_2
Something about Shanoba seemed to attract him as well, and upon reflection, it was her dragonkin bloodline and the Dragon Soul that had merged into her body causing mischief.
The Dragon Soul had originally fused only within his Consciousness Sea, but just now, Gaven felt it seeping into his bloodline.
He’d touched the itchy spot on his shoulder blade repeatedly, finding no protrusion.
But Gaven was certain that if this continued, he might also grow a pair of Dragon Wings like Shanoba’s.
If he could retract them at will like she did, Gaven would be more than happy, as it meant the ability to fly.
However, if they ended up like Erde’s leathery wings, dragging behind him, that would be troublesome, not to mention inconvenient; besides, it would make interactions with other sentient beings difficult, as he could easily be treated as an outsider.
Having a Dragonborn lineage granted an advantage among races like the Gnolls, but it could be a disadvantage among other races.
Yet, with such matters involving the soul, even with knowing, he was powerless to do anything; he could only find time to discuss with Lord Virginia to see if she had any unique insights in this area.
Gaven collected his thoughts, recalled Aivensa, and hurried back to the battlefield.
By now Blood Claw had led the Hobgoblin Wolf Cavalry to nearly complete the mop-up operations.
Besides the Hobgoblin Wolf Cavalry, not a single living person was seen, either driven away or outright killed.
Seeing Gaven return, even Blood Claw, who was usually stern-faced, couldn’t hide his excitement, and he exclaimed, "Lord, we’ve struck it rich this time! These hundreds of carts of goods are all weapons and equipment, a third of them of fine quality, enough to equip our entire Blood Claw Garrison Town. With them, we don’t even need to mine and smelt iron."
Gaven shook his head and said, "Mining and smelting are sustainable practices, not just for our own use, but also potentially a new profit center in the future. Moreover, some of these goods are tricky; they shouldn’t be used for the time being. Order the soldiers not to touch any of the weapons and equipment here. Transport them to the designated location and wait until I find a way to deal with them before equipping them for use."
Upon hearing this, Blood Claw grew somber and said in a low voice, "Does the Lord mean that these goods have been marked, and powerful mages may come tracking the marks?"
His voice dropped as he asked the last question.
That was certain, as well as inevitable.
The quantity of the goods was too great, the price too high.
A rough estimate put the total value at no less than a million Gold Coins, a huge fortune for any caravan; many might even go bankrupt due to the loss of these goods.
Any capable caravan would surely mark such valuable goods to facilitate their recovery.
If it were him, he would certainly do the same.
Realizing this, Blood Claw wasted no time in issuing the order to hand over any privately hoarded goods, and personally conducted a thorough search of the entire Hobgoblin Wolf Cavalry, from top to bottom. He hanged and fiercely whipped five Hobgoblins who disobeyed orders. Afterwards, he kicked them out of the Wolf Cavalry and reassigned them to the ordinary Militia.
The harsh military discipline of the Hobgoblins was notorious.
Although they were not followers of the God of Tyranny, Bane, their every word and deed embodied the concept of tyranny.
Before dying, Darcy activated Flamestorm, attempting to destroy the loot.
However, due to the special nature of the loot, only about a third of the wagons were burned, leaving most goods unscathed.
Gaven and his crew didn’t dare to touch a single item, transferring all the goods onto carts and transporting them to Eagle Cliff Town, and then through the Dragon Oak Portal into the Dragon Oak Dragon Nest.
Lord Virginia, hearing the news and seeing such valuable goods, frowned and asked, "Where did these goods come from? Did you turn to highway robbery on the High Road?"
Although not publicized, her relationship with Gaven was obvious to anyone and was an open secret in the Spring Bud Forest.
She could be considered half the lady of the Dragon Oak Territory, knowing it inside out.
Although the Dragon Oak Territory currently seemed rather sizable, and the daily production was not negligible, in truth, there was hardly any surplus food. To ask Gaven to come up with one hundred thousand gold coins at once would pose a problem.
Now, suddenly transporting so much equipment stained with blood and scorch marks...
Other than robbery, Lord Virginia couldn’t think of a better explanation for such behavior, which she utterly despised.
If Gaven really did such a thing, even if she didn’t sever ties with him on the spot, their cooperative relationship would surely be greatly impacted.
Gaven hurriedly explained, "This is the merchandise of the Santarin Association... They had an internal strife, and then we picked up a bargain in the ready..."
On this matter, Gaven did not keep things hidden. He set Shanoba as bait to fish for the big catch and kept an eye on her, leading to a double-cross and shared all the details with Lord Virginia.
After hearing Gaven’s explanation, Lord Virginia’s expression instantly brightened, and not only would she no longer be angry about the incident, but she applauded it instead.
For an evil organization like the Santarin Association, no method of dealing with them was excessive.
In the end, Lord Virginia looked at Gaven with a peculiar expression and asked, "When you released that Wyvern Woman initially, had you calculated up to today’s step?"
Gaven’s entire plan was masterfully interlinked.
If it hadn’t been for Shanoba, whom he’d released back then, the Santarin Association’s internal strife might not have occurred.
Or it might not have occurred here, and even if it did, they would likely have been ignorant of it.
"How could it be that miraculous?" Gaven chuckled and shook his head, "You are an expert in prophecy and should know that even the most accurate Prophecy Technique cannot achieve this. This method is purely fishing; before one pulls the rod, no one knows whether the catch will be a big fish or a small one."
The main purpose of Gaven setting Shanoba loose was to force the Santarin Association from the shadows to the forefront, making it easier for him to monitor them and find their vulnerabilities.
Who would have thought that upon casting the line, he would hook a big shark, the hot-handling kind.
Lord Virginia thought about it and agreed; some things were purely coincidental.
Even if Gaven was extraordinarily cunning, he wouldn’t be so far-fetched as to have calculated even this detail.
"What do you need me to do?" Of course, Lord Virginia knew that if she was being called upon, there certainly was something afoot.
"Is there a way to hide these goods so that Object Positioning Technique, Prophecy Technique, and other magic spells can’t locate them?" Gaven asked straightforwardly, without beating around the bush.
"If you had made this request a month ago, I really wouldn’t have been able to help you, considering the sheer quantity of the goods," Lord Virginia said, her tone shifting, "But now, there actually is a way."
What wasn’t possible a month ago was now feasible.
Gaven’s thoughts raced as he speculated, "Are you planning to borrow the power of the Dragon Oak Mother Tree, no, the power of the Dragon Oak Dream Realm, my lord?"
"Exactly," Lord Virginia nodded and said, "Both Object Positioning Technique and Prophecy Technique work by magically perceiving the mental imprints left on objects. If we can shield these mental imprints, even a Legendary Prophecy Mage would find it impossible to accurately locate them."
"So, that’s how it is. I had no idea the Dragon Oak Dream Realm had such a miraculous function. What are we waiting for, let’s begin," Gaven exclaimed sincerely.
It could only be said that opportunities were reserved for those who were prepared.
The new weapons they’d created to combat the Foul Giants hadn’t yet been used against their intended target, but instead ended up being used against other foes.
