Chapter 240: Chapter 190 Too Hot to Handle_1

"Alright!" Shanoba could feel the unquestionable command in Gaven’s words, knowing that the master before her was not one to change his decisions over a mere physical relationship, at least not for her—obedience was the real power play.

Moreover, Shanoba herself had no desire to stay by Gaven’s side for long. She had a strong desire for control and was not one to easily submit to others.

There was nothing to gain from Gaven, and having to remain under someone else’s control for long could suffocate her alive.

In fact, during her time following Stephanie, she found the God of Tyranny’s philosophies quite to her liking.

It was just Stephanie’s constant intervention that prevented her from holding significant power, which was incredibly frustrating.

"Can you find her?" Gaven asked, not quite at ease.

"Don’t worry, even if I can’t find her, won’t she come looking for me?" As she spoke, Shanoba transformed into a wyvern and soared into the sky.

It was perhaps an illusion, but the wyvern she turned into seemed to grow bigger, almost reaching the size of a Giant Dragon. Its Dragon Scales became denser, and it began to resemble the Giant Dragon more and more.

Shanoba didn’t display any attachment or reluctance; she took off at high speed, heading straight for her main base. There was a higher chance Stephanie would return there. Even if she didn’t go back, she would have her watchers there. Once Stephanie appeared, she would naturally contact Shanoba.

And so it was. Two mountains away from her main base, Shanoba saw Stephanie signaling to her from the top of a ridge.

Stephanie looked quite miserable. Her right arm was completely severed, her clothes were in tatters, and she was covered in various wounds.

Many of these injuries resembled the old wound on her right arm, as if they weren’t fresh but rather old ones. Some were covered in dried blood, probably self-healed using her Martial Monk’s healing abilities.

Shanoba didn’t give Stephanie a chance to speak, angrily lashing out first, "Didn’t you say the plan was foolproof? What’s with the sudden appearance of those Hobgoblin Wolf Cavalry? Now look where we are, our people dead or wounded, and all our goods stolen. What are we supposed to do now?"

The fact that Gaven had recruited those Hobgoblin was still a secret; at least they hadn’t received any news about it beforehand.

If it weren’t for seeing the Red Copper Dragon and Gaven himself, she would never have associated the two.

A permanent ice-cold expression on Stephanie’s face was now clouded with anger as she said through gritted teeth, "The only ones with so many Hobgoblin Wolf Cavalry nearby are the Black Reaper bastards. They dare to steal our goods? They will rue the day, I’ll make them regret and spit it all back out."

The already vanquished Black Reaper took the blame for this debacle.

Pacing back and forth, Stephanie said, "We can’t stay here. It won’t be long before people come to investigate, and if we’re still here, any mistake could see us blamed by those Jackalwere. You should come with me."

"Where to? I’m not going anywhere. I want to stay right here," Shanoba stubbornly responded, "You promised me you’d help me take control of Blackwell, but now, the army I’ve gathered is destroyed because of your plan. I would have been better off staying in Old Axe Village and not getting involved in this mess."

"As I’ve just said, this place will soon become a land of danger," Stephanie snorted, "If you don’t mind becoming a high Mage’s pet or experiment, then by all means, stay."

Shanoba’s face visibly stiffened.

She knew all too well just how unique her natural wyvern transformation was.

To some Evil Mages, seeking great power, vivisection was as simple as drinking cold water.

"You have to tell me where we’re going," Shanoba’s tone wasn’t as tough as before.

"Valley, Shadow Valley. I have a Monastery there; we’ll temporarily take shelter from the storm. Once things quiet down here, we can come back," Stephanie answered, "By then, whether Blackwell still exists will be the question."

With such a disturbance, neither Manson nor Simmon could ignore it.

In truth, Stephanie instinctively rejected the orders from Santiel Fortress prior to action.

Even though she was not very politically sensitive, she was well aware that this matter was playing with fire—a careless move could turn her into a sacrificial pawn in the political games of those higher up, doomed forever.

But as a devout follower of the God of Tyranny, Stephanie could not, and would not, refuse the orders from the church’s higher-ups. All she could do was bite the bullet and proceed.

The current situation was arguably not entirely unwelcome.

She had at least thrown out the greatest source of catastrophe. If anyone pursued accountability, having reached her, the responsibility would be relatively lighter.

Based on her understanding of the one in charge, he would never let such a thing happen, at least not before it implicated him. All connections would have been severed long before.

...

After Shanoba left, Gaven didn’t immediately get up to leave but pondered his own issues.

Normally, he was not so readily moved by desire; his earlier conduct could not be explained away as merely weak self-control.
