Chapter 231: Chapter 189 Subduing the Dragon Maiden_3
Although the battle had ended, the two had not parted ways. Gaven, feeling somewhat shortchanged, was indulging in physical pleasures to make up for it, finding the slippery touch very comfortable.
His hands were mischievous, but his mouth spoke of serious matters, "Tell me, what’s the deal with the robbery of the Crimson Feather you mentioned?"
"It was all Stephanie, that ruthless nun’s arrangement. She may have used me, but she was very cautious around me. She never let me know certain things, and many details I overheard by eavesdropping."
Even within the Dark Intelligence Net, there was no solidarity; fierce infighting was currently underway. I heard that one faction supports the Bane Church, and Stephanie is from that faction."
"There’s also a faction that supports the new God of Conspiracy, Shylock."
"The cargo that the Crimson Feather was transporting was collected by Manson, the leader of Shylock’s faction, to support the Dark Castle and secure a foothold there for his trusted subordinate Simmon."
"Someone sent a message to Stephanie, directing her to intercept the cargo in the Rocklands. I guess it must have been someone from the Bane Church faction behind this."
The information Shanoba provided was very crude; she probably had no idea of the significant weight the names Manson and Simmon held within the Santarin Association.
But Gaven, using the knowledge from his past life, quickly pieced the whole affair together.
Manson was the founder of the Santarin Association, the undisputed master of the Dark Intelligence Net—at least for now. While he had not completely sided with the Shylock Faction, he had tacitly allowed them to grow in power."
"Simmon was Manson’s top lackey and former apprentice, a mage approaching legendary status, sent to Dark Castle to lay the groundwork for expanding new trade routes."
"If the cargo was indeed support from Manson for Simmon,"
"then the person backing Stephanie is no ordinary individual."
"After giving it a lot of thought, there’s only one person with the guts and capability within the Santarin Association: Bozor Cheboray, the second-in-command, the High Priest of the dark hand of Bane."
"The inner turmoil of the Santarin Association is a conflict of faith as well as a struggle for power."
"Bozor has been eyeing Manson’s position for more than a day or two, and his conflict with Simmon has persisted for over half a century."
"Originally, when Manson sent Simmon to the Dark Castle, part of the reasoning was to suppress internal strife."
"If there was an opportunity to trip up Simmon, Bozor would certainly not miss it, regardless of whether it harmed the interests of the Santarin Association."
"It just never occurred to him that he would get entangled in the overt and covert battles among the high ranks of the Santarin Association so quickly."
"Even knowing this, given another chance, he would still go ahead with the robbery."
"Only now, with several legendary and near-legendary mages involved, handling the spoils required extreme caution and care."
"Alright, I’ve got the whole picture now. Stephanie has probably already fled. You continue to follow her," Gaven said as he took out a set of spare clothes from a convenience bag and threw them to Shanoba.
"No need." After standing up, Shanoba was enveloped by the wyvern shadow behind her, which gathered like a tide. A portion seeped back into her body, while the rest wrapped around her. By the time the shadow had dissipated, she was clad in a full-body armor made of intricately woven dragon scales.
This custom-fit armor showcased her well-defined curves, making her figure all the more striking.
If there had been more time, Gaven would have liked to have another battle with her dressed in the Dragon Scale Armor.
"With things having turned out like this, is there any point in continuing to follow that old nun?" Shanoba asked doubtfully.
During this time, Stephanie had come to regard Gaven as a true adversary, starting to gather information from all sides meticulously.
Her understanding of him was deepening, and she dared not act rashly anymore.
While the Monster Tribe was assembling quickly, Gaven’s strength was growing even faster.
Shanoba couldn’t help but feel that burying herself in Stephanie’s shadow was superfluous.
"This time, you have just one task: keep a close eye on Stephanie. Wherever she goes, you follow. All you need to do is stick with her, and leave the rest to me. Without my command, you’re not to take any rash actions," Gaven reassigned Shanoba’s mission.
Without a doubt, Stephanie had a direct or indirect connection to Bozor. She was a big fish that needed constant vigilance.
