Chapter 1084: Chapter 628: The Resolute Ghost Witches

Felen only standardized texts (as required by magic), but did not standardize the rails for the carts, not to mention standardized parts. It’s not just that different countries and different workshops produce different products, even carts produced by the same craftsman might differ significantly in size.

Thus, a multitude of different types of carts travel on Felen Trade Routes, and from time to time, you’d see graveyards of carts beside the routes, with relatively new carts discarded inside, all for the want of a unique-sized wheel that had broken beyond repair. Unable to find a replacement on short notice, and not worth the time to have one custom made, the carts are abandoned with a heavy heart.

Such occurrences are not allowed for products coming from Gaven’s territory, especially not warfare implements, which face strict requirements—everything must be in standard sizes and of the highest quality checked. Not only are all parts within the same type of vehicle interchangeable, but many parts of the Ballista Cart and Tower War Chariots are also interchangeable, so critical parts of severely damaged ones can be removed to repair others that have sustained less damage.

When these defeated Monster Soldiers rush in, naturally, they face the side with the carriages.

Therefore, all they see are the sparse Ballista Carts; they don’t see the soldiers crowded on the other side of the carts, nor the Cart Heavy Crossbow Vehicles behind them.

By the time they hear the trembling of the crossbow strings, it’s already too late.

Over a hundred and ninety Ballista Carts released their power at once, plowing bloody paths through their charging ranks.

Against regular monsters, it’s an absolute weapon of terror, shattering the remnants of their fighting spirit.

Then came the torrential rain of thousands of arrows, leaving yet another portion of Monster Soldiers fallen on the attack path.

The essence of the Ballista Cart tactic is to use the carts or create a wall of carts to block the enemy, utilizing ranged weapons to deplete the enemy’s fighting forces as much as possible, eradicating them on their charge if possible. If not, the goal is to annihilate them outside of the carriages, leaving hand-to-hand combat as a last resort, and avoiding foolish acts of one-on-one dueling when the odds are in their favor.

It’s precisely this core strategy that keeps their status as a Vanguard Army with a consistently low casualty rate, yet their use of ranged weaponry is anything but minimal. A single battle could deplete hundreds of thousands of arrows.

But they have a Commander skilled in accruing wealth; they never need to worry about this, for their Ballista Carts are always stocked full of arrows and Throwing Spears among other ranged weapons.

Even the Pioneer Army of the Founders, which fought a fierce battle at the West Bridge Entrance, have only used up a third of their stockpiled arrows. They don’t have to worry about a shortage of firepower in the short term.

By the time the Fireball Technique blanket the area before the Ballista Cart formation like a carpet, the Monster Soldiers behind realize in despair that their enemy’s attack is the best defense, and with their morale shattered, they don’t even qualify to charge toward the enemy’s carts.

Even the few survivors of the triple-ranged attack who slip through the gaps between the Ballista Carts face death traps—a dozen Long Spears thrusting out at once, turning them into sieves and tossing them out.

They are fleeing for their lives, not rushing to their deaths.

Compared to this corridor of death, they find it wiser to retreat with the main force.

And this is precisely the thought that the Conqueror Army wants them to have. As long as they no longer charge at the Ballista Cart line, even if they enter the range of the Cart Heavy Crossbow Vehicles, they won’t easily launch an attack.

Only when they need to redirect the enemy’s direction will they use attacks to drive them, like herding sheep.

The formation of the Tactical Bead Curtain Roll-Up owes not only to a certain degree of luck but also requires a high level of coordinated combat capability. The stronger this capability, the more likely the army is to successfully implement this tactic, especially under such a large-scale situation.

The Conqueror Army happens to meet all these standards.

With the precise cooperation of various legions, the remaining remnants of the Monster Army were forcibly driven along the Wild Border River towards the Far Sea Marsh, and their speed increased ever faster, especially after passing The Plunderer overseers.

All Monster Soldiers run as fast as they can, striving to distance themselves from the Shura Field as much as possible.

Such catastrophic casualties in war were unseen by them before; normally, after pushing tens of thousands of soldiers without breaking the enemy’s defenses, they would generally move into retreats, routs, and return home procedure.

After all, they were an Allied Army orchestrated by the Dark Castle with the goal of looting in mind. If there was a profit to be made, their desire to fight was unmatched, but once they hit a tough nut, their spirits quickly dampened.

However, the appearance of Plunderer Karazgos forcibly dragged them into a Divine War with Lady Strategy, essentially fighting an additional battle. While the casualties were similar to the first wave, they were the cream of the crop; many Monster Soldiers were not killed by the arms of the Conqueror Army but by their own kind, with many chieftains, Shamans, and warriors either transformed into Blood Plunderers or Blood Berserkers, either consumed or turned into the enemy.
