Chapter 1083: Chapter 627: Bead Curtain Roll-Up_3
But when they completely lost control, even doubling their numbers wouldn’t be enough to suppress the monster soldiers who outnumbered them by twenty to thirty times, let alone the fact that previously, Gaven and Katherine had led the Mixed Extraordinary Brigade, which dealt a significant blow to The Plunderer, killing no less than three hundred of them, nearly a third. This was also the trigger that caused the monster soldiers to flee.
When Gaven and his troops slashed through The Plunderer along their path and rushed forward, there was no longer a tiger in the way to stop the monster soldiers from escaping. No command was needed; those intelligent monster soldiers stealthily started fleeing, and then led the less intelligent ones to move together. However, considering the size of their group, only part of it managed to break away, creating a situation akin to being packed like sardines in a can.
The front group of monsters couldn’t break out, while those at the rear were trapped inside, becoming frantic. Before, without the hope of escape, everyone was in the same boat, but now some had hope while others did not, which naturally led to psychological imbalance.
The seven to eight hundred Blood Plunderers couldn’t turn the tide and were directly overwhelmed by the surging monster soldiers.
From above, one would see that these Blood Plunderers weren’t killed on the spot; their abilities were best suited for thriving on battle. The blood prevalent on the battlefield was nourishment that reinforced their own strength, especially when faced with an opponent that couldn’t counter their abilities and lacked the high-level combat power to deplete their blood-energy, they demonstrated why the Plunderer had dominated the position of Lord of War for many years.
However, their numbers were far too few compared to the remaining monster soldiers. They were like splashes of blood scattered above, their created slaughter and fear not only failing to deter the monster soldiers but instead sparking even more frantic reactions, as the enemies, even at the risk of dying, entangled them, and more monster soldiers simply stormed past them.
"Nort Guard Legion, for Lady Strategy, for Lord, for the people, follow me and charge." Nola, having received orders from the Shadow Messenger, had already maneuvered the Nort Guard Heavy Cavalry to the front of the Monster Army.
Bead Curtain Roll-Up is a knightly tactic.
By using their strong impact force, they shatter the enemy’s will, then use the enemy’s defeated soldiers to strike at the enemy’s relatively intact main formation, dragging them into chaos. Even if it doesn’t cause a total collapse, it can reveal their traps and strongest few waves of attack power.
Nola was very familiar with this tactic; it was the same one they used at Nort Castle to defeat the Hobgoblin Main Formation, killing their leader and main force, which cleared the way for their later great retreat.
But now, the scale of the war had expanded by a hundredfold from before, and she had gone from being a cavalry soldier, a main striker, to a general commanding an army alone.
It felt like it was a distant memory, but when she calculated it, it had not even been a year. The reason this seemed misleading was not because of the passage of time but due to their own swift growth when they look back, it was almost hard to believe.
Nola’s orders were to intimidate and drive away, not to truly collide head-on, akin to how a wolf pack operates. Each time they appear to pounce on the whole group of prey, but in reality, they are intimidating and driving them away, getting them moving, causing the prey to make mistakes amidst the chaos and thus seizing the opportunity to kill.
So, they were charging diagonally, attacking just a corner of the Monster Army, neither wasting the Nort Guard Legion’s charge potential nor failing to sufficiently intimidate the Monster Army, making them retreat faster and more fiercely.
"Run to the west, their chariot formation has gaps, large enough for us to slip through."
"As long as we can break out of the chariot formation, we will be completely safe."
"Those who want to live, charge with me."
Some ostensibly clever monster soldiers also started to have crooked thoughts, focusing their attention on the western side of the Pocket Formation, specifically the reserve chariot array.
Compared with following the monster army’s slow retreat, this appeared to be a better direction for retreat.
In a moving reserve chariot, there must be at least the space of one vehicle between each, resembling a comb from afar.
It should be mentioned here that the compartments of the reserve carriages are not fixed but can be quickly dismantled and reassembled.
This practice does somewhat weaken their defensive capabilities, but the benefits are numerous.
Firstly, it facilitates the reposition of the carriages as the battle might not necessarily break out on the left or right side of the reserve vehicles. Although they can be maneuvered to face the battle, it’s far more convenient to simply dismantle and relocate the carriages.
Secondly, it facilitates the replacement of carriages that are damaged beyond repair. These are considered high-wear components; it’s common for them to be so damaged during a battle that not even a Complete Repair Technique can mend them, and by simply replacing the carriages, they can be redeployed into combat.
Thirdly, it facilitates refitting. If there is a need, disassembling a carriage from one reserve vehicle and installing it on another can transform them into a topless container truck and a heavy-duty flatbed trailer.
There is an issue of universal sizing involved here; the Felen Continent has never seen a single unified nation, nor even one capable of influencing half the continent, including the world-renowned Nesserel Empire. They are just remembered because the magical achievements they achieved were too brilliant; in fact, the area they once ruled was not very large, certainly not up to one-third of the current size of the Enorok Great Desert.
The reason why the Enorok Great Desert is referred to as the remains of the Nesserel Empire is that after the empire collapsed, those orthodox survivors established regimes in other areas, which were later swallowed up by the desert and also considered part of the Nesserel Empire.
