Chapter 1022: Chapter 607: The Formidable Lizard Queen_2
"We are the Queen’s servants, kill all of the Queen’s enemies."
Many soldiers of the Conqueror Army instantly turned their spears around, shooting their deadly arrows at their own comrades, while ignoring the real enemies. In fact, three cart heavy crossbow vehicles pivoted their direction to aim at other ballista carts and pulled the trigger.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
At such close range, there was no chance of missing, and these heavy crossbow vehicles displayed their extraordinary lethality to the world.
A ballista operator who failed to dodge in time was shot straight through by a crossbow arrow; the force granted to the arrow by the twisted rope cable ripped a large hole in his body instantly. It lifted him and he crashed into another cart heavy crossbow vehicle behind him, causing terrifying secondary damage. The man was cut in half at the waist, and both halves of his body fell heavily to the ground. While his upper body cried out in pain, writhing and desperately clawing around, he screamed, "Ah... my Combat Belt... ah, ah, ah... my Healing Potion, medic...ah... medic, save me, save me, I don’t want to die..."
The grit and tenacity of life in this ballista operator were remarkable; even suffering a bisecting wound and bleeding profusely like a flood, he did not instantly perish, though the sight was as mortifying as it could be. If he didn’t receive immediate medical attention from the battlefield medics, he would bleed to death within minutes, currently afflicted with a bleeding debuff.
Once the bleeding was stopped, given the plentiful supply of Regeneration Rings the Conqueror Army possessed at the moment, it wouldn’t take long before he was jumping around, a hero reborn.
The ballista cart he had been operating met with disaster as well, its one side arm shattered by the tremendous physical impact; even if it wasn’t completely destroyed, it would not be able to rejoin the battle anytime soon.
The other two targeted cart heavy crossbow vehicles and their operators suffered equally dismal fates. One exploded on the spot into a mangled wreck, whether it could be repaired with the Complete Repair Technique was an uncertainty. The other was slightly less damaged and remained largely intact, though whether it could function was another question since these were precision siege weapons.
Both of their operators were flung down from the tower war chariots and lay silent on the ground, their lives in the balance.
With injuries, the external appearance can be deceiving; what’s most important is the internal damage, whether any vital organs have been fatally compromised.
Once the brain or spine, areas of lethal vulnerability, have been shattered, unless you possessed some Special Ability protecting you from death, even a Transcendent with a dozen Life Dice would likely perish instantly.
Even ordinary humans without a Professional Level and with only one Life Dice could put up a fierce struggle for a while against horrific injuries like being bisected.
This was the terror of the Charm Spell; with just a reversal, six Conqueror Army cart heavy crossbow vehicles were rendered combat ineffective.
"They’ve been hit with a Charm Spell, stop them."
"Be careful behind you."
"Use Dispel Magic, quickly use Dispel Magic on them to remove their control."
"Fast, fast, prioritize stopping those three charmed ballista operators."
"Those below, don’t keep loading them."
"There are people inside the chariots who are also controlled."
"Defend the chariots, everyone prioritize defending the chariots and the ballistae; those monster soldiers will try to seize control of the ballista carts."
Only some had been controlled, mainly among the armed migrants; many regular soldiers not only had stronger Wills, making them harder to control, but also possessing strong battle instincts, they realized something was wrong and immediately dodged to escape the range of the Mist.
However, the Conqueror Army’s complete defense line was utterly disrupted, and the Lizardfolk Army took the opportunity to surge through the breach, driving the controlled soldiers of the Conqueror Army to continue expanding their conquest.
Those Evil Fang Lizardfolk emitted hissing roars, driving the Mad Frogmen to leap recklessly towards the tops of the surrounding tower war chariots, trying to seize control of the cart heavy crossbow vehicles. Even if they couldn’t use them as they had the first three, they at least created trouble, preventing effective attacks.
All in preparation for their Lizard Queen to ascend the Bridge of Human God.
This was the Lizard Queen’s unique Special Ability, known as Mist of Obedience, which could charm and control creatures with weak Wills for her use.
Ordinary creatures facing this Mist of Obedience could still muster Will to resist control, and even if controlled, like with a Charming Technique, it would last for a duration before automatically wearing off.
But for Lizardfolk, resistance would be incredibly challenging, and this control had a chance of being permanent. The Lizard Queen was not just a title; it also represented an exceptional power.
"Hou!" The Lizard Queen roared again, and with a massive splash, her unbelievably corpulent body leaped out, assisted by a pair of disproportionately small Dragon Wings, and heavily landed atop the Bridge of Human God.
Her immense weight was so formidable that the bridge walls, over half a meter thick and unshaken by the barrage of waves more than ten meters tall, were crushed down for dozens of meters by her. The sight made one involuntarily question whether these bridge walls were constructed from bricks and stones solidified by the Power of Faith or from crumbly yellow soil.
The materials had not changed, nor was the Lizard Queen’s Strength surpassing that of the wave’s impact; it was merely an issue of the force applied over an area. The Lizard Queen’s horrific weight and Strength, concentrated on her four claws, naturally released terrifying force. If such an attack fell upon humans, it would likely be like crushing mice—so long as she landed a hit, survival was nearly impossible.
