Chapter 1004: Chapter 601 Help from the God of the Road_2

His Highness Windslaver is another name for Shan Dakor, the God of Travel and Exploration, also known as Felen’s God of Roads. Since the Goddess of Wealth Woken went missing, no longer responding to the prayers of her own followers, many followers of the Goddess of Wealth and merchants have switched over to seek his patronage, praying for his protection and aid on their journeys.

Upon hearing this name, Gaven leaped up from his seat and laughed heartily, "We’ve only been thinking from a mortal’s perspective, how could we have forgotten about the deities? Let’s go, let’s go, let’s see what kind of aid and surprises the followers of the Hand of Aid have brought us. Ms. Katherine, let’s go together. The road clergy of Windslaver complement Lady Strategy perfectly. Only with clear paths can troops be mobilized on a large scale with ease; this is a golden opportunity to expand His Highness’s network."

"Right," Katherine agreed readily.

The Hand of Aid is another moniker for Shan Dakor since his followers rarely stay in one place. Instead, they travel the roads and selflessly assist the travelers on trade routes, helping them to journey further and more smoothly. Over time, this naturally won them this fine reputation.

In fact, during their time in the Giant Plains, Gaven had already felt the God of the Road’s attention on them. Although their migration wasn’t undertaken in the name of the God of Travel and Exploration, the act of migrating itself, as well as carving out a new trade route spanning thousands of kilometers, was in itself the best honor for this True God.

If Shan Dakor didn’t pay attention to this, it would be negligence. He would have fallen from grace long ago and would not have steadily occupied the throne of a True God.

He was also one of the evergreens among the Deities of Phelun, one of the oldest deities. He had always remained the God of Travel and Exploration, which was related to his silent, loner personality. Not only does he have a good reputation among mortals, but he also maintains good relations with many other deities. There are rarely conflicts of interest. The only two deities he is at odds with are the Goddess of Dark Night, Shar, and the Goddess of Misfortune, Beshaba.

The former is due to a conflict of divine positions; Windslaver dislikes hidden secrets and prefers to bring them to light. He actively guides the public to explore those unknown secrets, as it is his divine duty.

The divine position of the Goddess of Dark Night involves keeping secrets, but Shar has no intention of smiting Shan Dakor. After all, whatever secrets are kept, there will inevitably be those who explore and unveil them. In the end, it depends on who has the more skillful means.

With this relative divine position, Shar can’t possibly control both at the same time. So rather than eliminating Shan Dakor and allowing the exploration divine position to fall into the hands of a stronger deity, it’s better to keep it with him. As long as she ensures she’s stronger than him and can suppress him, that’s fine.

The latter conflict arises because Beshaba once masqueraded as the God of the Road and incited disputes among tribes in a region called Barrens Bull Desert. To this day, the people there still curse Windslaver, calling him the "dangerous lurker in the sands." The two have engaged in fierce struggles. Although Shan Dakor tries his best to protect the travelers from misfortune, Beshaba still often succeeds, plunging those travelers into various types of bad luck—natural disasters, man-made calamities, vehicular accidents, monster attacks, etc., are all her doing.

Shan Dakor once possessed Intermediate Divine Power, but after the City of Songs Mystorno fell, he declined. He even fell to Feeble Divine Power for a time, until last year when many followers turned to him after issues with the God of Commerce Woken. Only then did he begin to redevelop his strength. He had always lacked a key intermediate to show his divine power to the world once more and to announce his return—"Mortals act, deities respond," one of the core operating laws of the Multiverse.

If mortals do not act, deities should not make rash moves, or it could backfire and possibly cause their divine power to decline.

Of course, this situation is limited to the Material Plane. In the Upper Plane, especially within the God Kingdom, the deities have far fewer restrictions. But it is pointless; in their God Kingdom, everything requires the expenditure of faith and divine power, while the Material Plane is their main source of faith.

These various laws have but one purpose: to prevent the deities from acting indiscriminately, pushing the entire Material Plane towards destruction, which would lead to the collapse of the Multiverse.

In other words, the Material Plane is the core structure of the Multiverse. Without it, the rest is but a castle in the air which cannot last long.

"I am Gaven Nort, the Commander of this great army, and it is our greatest honor to welcome the devout followers of His Highness Windslaver," Gaven expressed his respect as soon as they met.

This Shadow Sword Knights group was entirely composed of demi-humans no taller than Gaven’s waist, dressed as adventurers, mostly cloaked in dark capes.

This was not surprising; the entire demi-human race has a propensity for roaming, akin to Anbao Boat Village, where their whole village makes homes of boats. The road is not limited to land; waterways also count. Many demi-humans are drawn to Shan Dakor’s doctrine and become his cleric followers, which is only natural.

"Gim, leader of the Shadow Sword Knights, at your service, General. By the decree of my God, we’ve come to offer you the Hand of Aid and help you overcome your difficulties," the leading demi-human cleric Gim stated straightforwardly, revealing the principal purpose of their visit.
