Chapter 1005: 601
"Come inside, come inside," Gaven said, naturally cautious of eavesdroppers as the upcoming matters likely involved military secrets.
"Right, on our way here, we encountered a unique friend," Gim pointed to someone nearby and continued, "He claims to be a friend of the General and has brought intelligence from Far Sea Marsh for the General to discern its authenticity."
A tall figure emerged from nothingness, covered in spotted long fur, with a sturdy body slightly hunched, yellow pupils, a round nose, and a protruding face filled with sharp fangs—it was unmistakably a Jackalwere.
What was unique was that the Jackalwere’s eyes did not possess the typical greed and ferocity of his kin, but rather an endless calm and tranquility, resembling an enlightened monk.
"Flinn," Gaven identified him, a genuine joy visible on his face, as he continued enthusiastically, "He indeed is my friend. Come in, come in."
A Jackalwere Monk like Flinn was probably unique throughout all of Felen.
He was the very same unique Jackalwere who had willingly cooperated with them during the battle with the Black Reaper in the Jackalwere Battalion.
The last time he had contacted Gaven, he had mentioned keeping an eye on Yenogu’s Poison Fang in Far Sea Marsh, saying that the Jackalweres there were seeking his aid after a resurgence.
Gaven had once sent the Erde Scout Team to locate him and establish contact, but Flinn’s skills in concealing his whereabouts were superb—neither foes nor allies could detect where he was.
After entering the Goblin Margins and encountering the forces of Far Sea Marsh, Gaven had considered seeking Flinn to potentially secure intelligence regarding Far Sea Marsh.
Among the three major forces that the Conqueror Army faced—the Lizard Queen’s Royal Court of Tun Marsh and the forces of Dark Castle—they had a basic understanding, including the types and quantities of troops they had, forming a general estimation.
However, the force in Far Sea Marsh remained a complete mystery.
This area was even more secluded than Tun Marsh, hidden under several hundred meters of perpetual mist all year round, which made seeing anything beyond ten meters nearly impossible, compounded by the misleading nature of the mist. Strangers could easily lose their way in the mist, and coupled with numerous perils of the swamp, it became even more deadly.
This mist had started forming since last year; before that, Far Sea Marsh had not differed much from Tun Marsh. This change was likely related to divine intervention.
The intelligence the Conqueror Army currently held on Far Sea Marsh was limited to it being controlled by a Legendary Ghost Witch Assembly; they had no details about whether they would deploy troops, the structure of their forces, or the size of their military—everything else was unknown.
Having watched over this area for half a year, Flinn was somewhat of a local authority, undoubtedly holding significant intelligence. It was unexpected that the casual effort thrown out initially had landed in the lap of the Conqueror Army.
After everyone had taken their seats, Gaven impatiently asked the follower of the God of the Road, "May I know, Lord Gim, what kind of aid have you brought us?"
Compared to the intelligence concerning Far Sea Marsh, the assistance from the God of Travel and Exploration was more critical, as it very likely related to the predicaments they faced.
"His Highness Windslaver is willing to construct a great bridge across the river for the General, to aid the entire army in crossing," Captain Gim answered directly.
"The Hand of Aid truly lives up to its name, always extending help when people need it most. With His Highness Windslaver’s help, our predicament will be resolved smoothly."
"It’s truly excellent news. We hadn’t thought of seeking aid from His Highness Windslaver before, which was really inconsiderate."
"After we get past this situation, we must build a grand temple for His Highness Windslaver to tell the world of his readiness to assist, and how he deserves people’s worship."
The entire high command of the Conqueror Army became exceptionally excited, having previously been greatly troubled by this matter.
As for the time it would take to build the bridge, nobody asked—it was, after all, a deity personally intervening. Even if his divine power had diminished to a feeble level, he was still a True God, definitely capable of creating the bridge instantly.
"What does His Highness require us to do?" Katherine was one of the few who did not show excitement, being the chosen of Lady Strategy and knowing more about divine matters.
Even for a deity, creating such a bridge across the river, especially one that would allow the entire Conqueror Army to pass quickly, was no small feat; it required massive amounts of divine power, perhaps even tapping into divine nature.
That wasn’t even the pressing issue; the problem was that doing so was against the rules. It had been stated before that humans invoke, deities respond, and these restrictions had gotten stricter since the Year of Upheaval.
They don’t do anything, and the God of Travel and Exploration drops a bridge from the sky for them—that was definitely a trap, either for Mount Dakor himself or a preparation to trap the Conqueror Army.
Gim nodded kindly towards Katherine, smiling as he said, "His Highness also said that he’s just facilitating the response—it’s up to you whether the bridge can be raised and to what extent."
The Demi-Human priest’s words carried a hint of mystery, leaving many unclear on the full implications.
Katherine, chosen of Lady Strategy, was the first to understand as her eyes sparkled with realization, pressing on, "Are you saying we should conduct His Highness Windslaver’s worship ceremony on the banks of the Wild Border River and bring forth the Bridge of Faith using our own Power of Faith?"
If that was the case, then it made complete sense.
This was a classic example of divine response to human invocation—previously, during the confrontation at the gates of Darama City against the Divine Root, Zalanda had used the same method, mobilizing the military and citizens of Darama to pray and to bring forth the Incarnation of Lady Strategy to protect them.
Of course, such invocation may or may not be answered by the gods, depending on the benefits; otherwise, it was usually the latter.
If both warring sides prayed to Tempus at the same time, the God of War surely wouldn’t send his Incarnation to both sides to fight itself, right?
Even though he could do it, it was meaningless and would only result in losses for him.
Non-intervention was even a possibility, as mutual prayers might cancel each other out.
Non-prayer wasn’t an option either—who knew if doing so would cause the God of War to send his Incarnation to the side that prayed?
The gods weren’t foolish; when they could benefit without exertion, of course, they would prefer to observe from the sidelines.
