Chapter 49: 046. The Cost of Kalomba Ritual.

What is that thing?

Its appearance is so disturbing and uncomfortable. Why would a goat have a human face?

The blonde-haired girl could only remain silent as questions filled her head.

For some reason, Jessica couldn’t move. This feeling of fear was the same feeling she had when she tried to enter Rama’s mind.

The creature was a kalomba. But Jessica certainly didn’t know about the local mystical creatures, all she knew was that she better be quiet and stay alert if she wanted to survive.

The kalomba was walking in a strange way, it was walking with its head bowed and walking backwards.

Jessica still didn’t know what was going on, but she was beginning to understand that the creature was part of the ritual.

The kalomba walked towards the circle in the center of which was a pile of grated coconut pulp.

The creature arrived at the center of the circle and ate the grated coconut.

Now, all three circles were filled. Soon after, the group of people in black hoods stood around that triangular formation and chanted mantras that Jessica did not understand.

Not long after, the kalomba looked uncomfortable and wanted to leave, but could not.

It was as if there was an invisible wall confining the kalomba inside the circle.

The kalomba screamed and tried to break the transparent wall to escape, but its efforts were in vain.

It wasn’t just the kalomba who looked miserable, the bound woman also looked tortured.

The woman squirmed and tried to get out, but there was also the transparent wall blocking her.

Her mouth had been sealed by the tape so tightly that she could not utter a single word even if she tried to scream with all her might.

Her gaze showed a mixture of fear and panic. Her tears were flowing freely and her movements were like a fish fried in hot oil.

The only person who looked relaxed was the man in the third circle. He just stood there grinning, watching the torture unfold before his eyes.

The kalomba was getting more and more aggressive and jet-black blood started flowing out of its eyes. So did the woman, fresh red blood slowly oozing out of her eyes and nostrils.

Both rebelled, trying to get out. Both were screaming frantically.

And both of them simply exploded.

The blood splatter was not thrown out of the circle. Some bloodstains could be seen floating in the air...

No, it’s not floating...

The bloodstains clung to the air.

The invisible wall encloses everything within the circle. Including the blood splatter.

Jessica took a few steps back and immediately sat down while covering her mouth with both hands.

Her eyes were wide open and her body was shaking. This was the first time she had seen someone’s death that resembled an exploded water balloon.

All her eyes could see were the woman’s clothes and a pile of bones amidst a pool of blood. No flesh, no skin, no hair. Just blood.

The fresh red pool of blood from the woman and the black pool of blood from the kalomba began to move...

The invisible wall that had stood upright and prevented everything inside from escaping, now disappeared.

The pool of red blood and the pool of black blood moved and approached each other. Mixing together, they formed a solid lump like a boulder with a radius of 30 cm.

The blob slowly changed its shape and texture, revealing a small goat that was probably only 15 cm tall.

Apart from its tiny height, the goat’s head also looks different. The goat’s head was just a goat skull with a bright red light emanating from the skull’s eye holes.

The uncomfortable feeling Jessica felt was the same feeling she had when she tried to enter Rama’s mind. It might be more accurate to say that the goat-shaped creature was a manifestation of that discomfort.

Even though it was a mythical monster, the creature Jessica saw did not feel like a living being at all.

There was no mind, consciousness, will, or even survival instinct. It just ( existed ). It breathed and moved, but at the same time it seemed to have no soul. It looked more like...

"The perfect living weapon," said Rama who suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

Once again, Jessica was at a loss for words. This was the second time Rama had appeared without being detected.

The young man in the black hoodie stood beside Jessica’s cage grinning widely.

"It’s even cheaper than buying a tank," Rama said casually.

Jessica took a few steps back and didn’t let her guard down. "You can teleport, right?!"

Rama’s eyes opened wide. He was surprised, but not because of what the blonde girl had said, but something more basic....

"You’re apparently fluent in Indonesian language, I thought foreigners like you could only speak English," said a still amazed Rama.

"Huh?! Are you trying to make fun of me?!" said Jessica, raising her voice.

"Of course not, that’s very rude," Rama replied casually.

"What do you want?!"

"I just want to talk, but you don’t seem like the friendly type."

Jessica smiled confidently, "Too bad, you won’t get a chance to talk. Soon, Uncle Johan will come to pick me up."

Rama smiled broadly. "That’s good then. It would be a shame if he didn’t come after I went to all the trouble of kidnapping you as a hostage."

Rama turned and walked away into the darkness of the forest.

It happened again, Rama disappeared from Jessica’s sight and the girl could not detect where the young man had gone.

-------------------------------------

"Huh? Are you out of your mind?!" shouted Galih who couldn’t believe what he had just heard.

In the middle of the field where there were still debris from the previous battle, Johan and Farel were talking with Galih and Adit.

The four men were arguing over Johan’s decision to save ( The Queen).

"Are you arguing with me?" asked Johan, who seemed unhappy with Galih’s refusal.

"Huh?! Of course I refused. Have you gone senile after that boy burned you?!" Galih raised his tone of voice and did not want to budge.

Johan’s eyebrows twitched when he heard that response. He raised his hand that was electrified with high voltage electricity.

"Do you want to die now?" asked Johan, pointing his palm at Galih.

Galih did not flinch at all. He looked directly into Johan’s eyes with earnestness. "You might kill me, but those savages will definitely torture me and won’t let me die."

Johan hesitated for a moment and Galih continued his sentence.

"I don’t want to have to deal with them. Especially with our small numbers. It’s the same as taking a life," Galih said.

"Unfortunately I agree with Galih," said Adit who suddenly entered the conversation. "Fighting them in this condition is tantamount to suicide and there’s a good chance they won’t let us die quickly."

Such logical and reasonable reasoning managed to sway Johan’s opinion. But even so, he could not back down, he must not back down. He had no choice but to save Jessica even if his life was at stake.

As Johan wrestled with his thoughts, Farel sighed heavily and finally opened his mouth.

"I really wanted to fight them but Galih was right. This is a suicide mission with guaranteed torture. It’s only natural that they wouldn’t want to fight the monsters or demons that are on those people’s side," said Farel, providing input.

While listening to Farel’s sentence, Johan suddenly got an idea.

Johan smiled slightly. "You guys seem to be right, I’d go crazy trying to fight powerful demons and monsters."

Johan suddenly grinned widely. "That’s why we need demons and monsters to fight demons and monsters!"
