Chapter 843: Danger not over yet

Joshua had become particularly clingy. He didn’t leave Ivy’s side even for a moment; all Aria could do was eat the dog food she was being forcefully fed.

"Is it necessary to display your affection this blatantly? Spare me, alright?" she complained more to Joshua than her sister. Aria wasn’t ignorant of her sister’s helpless state. If Ivy had a choice, she’d have kicked him out of the room.

"Hey, you can’t blame. I am just exercising my rights as a boyfriend. I am hugging my girlfriend. If you have a problem, look for your boyfriend. He wouldn’t mind showering you with hugs and kisses."

Joshua wrapped his arms around Ivy and kissed her cheek, ignoring her glare. After a long time, he could hold his girlfriend in his arms. He didn’t want to let her go even for a moment. Moreover, what if she changed her decision and left him when he wasn’t anywhere around?

Just the thought gave him a chills and Joshua shook his head instantly. While Aria was amused, Ivy was irritated by his actions. She tried to push him again, only for the man to scoot closer, eradicating all the space between them.

"Looks like I’ll have to cleanse my eyes later," Aria mumbled under her breath and Ivy was rendered speechless.

"Where’s Noah, by the way?" Aria changed the topic. "I couldn’t get through to him. Is he busy?"

Joshua and Ivy’s expressions changed drastically and they became serious instantly.

"What’s wrong? What happened?" Aria didn’t miss their sudden change and she looked at them curiously. "Is everything alright?"

"Hopefully." Joshua sighed and gritted his teeth. "We don’t know yet."

"Why are you speaking in riddles? What happened?" Aria’s heart dropped and her mind started to concoct various scenarios, each more dreadful than the other.

"Well..." Joshua paused for a moment, his tone edged with hatred. "We have an inkling Jared might have targetted the new hotel under the Carter Group."

"Explosives?" Aria’s blood ran cold and his heart pounded in fear.

"Possibly. We don’t know yet. We are unable to reach Noah too," Joshua said, his body drooping in helplessness.

"Can we help him in any way?" Even though Aria tried to remain calm, she was highly agitated and failed to control her emotions.

"Let’s wait for Noah to return first. What if it’s a false alarm?" Joshua reasoned, forcing Aria to calm down. It would do them no good if they fretted over the issues even before they found the problem.

"You’re right. I shouldn’t lose my calm before we find the truth," Aria agreed. Yet, they couldn’t remove the tension in the room and it continued until Noah returned.

"What happened? Did you find out anything?" Joshua was the first to question him while the two women looked at him anxiously.

Aria’s heart ached to see his exhausted face. He seemed to have lost some weight as well, and she reprimanded herself for not giving him her attention the last few days

While Noah had been attentive and caring about her, even accompanying her to the psychiatrist, she had neglected him completely. She felt ashamed of herself and even started doubting whether she was a worthy girlfriend or not.

Noah sighed deeply and shook his head. He sat at the edge of the bed and looked at the floor, lost in thoughts.

"Maybe it’s a hoax. He must be fooling you." Joshua tried, silently wishing his words to be true. "You know Jared. He is a psycho."

"Maybe. But we can’t rule out the possibility of danger. What if he has planned something?" Noah wasn’t willing to take the risk. He was fine losing money. But what if his carelessness led to people losing their lives? He couldn’t allow that to happen.

"What have you thought of doing?"

"Why don’t we take Major Ethan’s help?" Ivy suggested all of a sudden. "He’s already helping us. Maybe with his assistance, we might find something."

"I have thought the same as well," Noah agreed with a nod. "I have sent Deputy a message. I’m yet to receive a reply. Hopefully, they’ll locate all the explosives soon."

A heavy silence fell in the room and nobody spoke for some time until Noah broke the silence.

"We have received updates about Stevenson. He was caught in Vietnam. He is being escorted back to the country."

"Do you intend to hand him over to the law?" Joshua asked, giving Noah a cryptic look.

"Yes. He is a headless chicken without Jared. Let him rot in jail," Noah replied. While the sisters didn’t understand the underlying meaning behind his words, Joshua did. But he didn’t show it on his face.

Stevenson would go to jail for sure. But who knew if he’d survive his first night or not?

"What about the hotel until then?" Aria asked.

"It will be closed for now. We cannot risk people’s lives."

"Will it impact you in any way?" Ivy gave Noah a worrying look.

"Not much. We may face some losses. That’s fine. I will release a notice that the hotel will be closed for inspection for the next few days."

The heavy atmosphere made Aria feel suffocated. She hid her worries and scooted closer to Noah, saying, "Noah, I have some good news to tell you."

Noah nodded at her, indicating for her to continue.

"Ivy and Joshua have reconciled. They are the couple again."

Noah’s head snapped to Ivy, his gaze incredulous. His eyes widened in surprise when he received a nod from her.

"Well, that’s astonishing," he remarked, giving Joshua a look his friend couldn’t comprehend. "I thought it’d take him a few months, maybe even a few years before you relented."

"I thought so as well. I guess I gave in quickly." Ivy didn’t deny it. "Maybe I should think about it again and take my time."

"Hey, you can’t go back on your words now. I won’t allow you to," Joshua said adamantly. "You may take as much time as you want to forgive me. You may test me and my feelings for you. But I won’t allow you to stay away from me."

"Aren’t you forcing me now?"

Joshua smirked, his eyes flashing with wickedness. "Sweetheart, if I were to be forcing you, you’d be in our house in our bed. Not here. Be happy that I am allowing you to stay here. Once your legs recover, I will take you back home. You cannot stop me then."

Ivy didn’t respond to him and averted her gaze away from him. But subconsciously, she started to look forward to that day.
