Chapter 842: True feelings

Ivy was alone in her room, thinking about what had happened in the garden. She recalled Joshua’s soft caresses and warm kisses, and again, her heart flipped.

’I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing. Just don’t break my heart again, Joshua. Otherwise, I will never forgive you.’ Shaking her head, she stopped thinking about it and picked up her phone.

A knock at the door broke the silence in the room and Aria peeked inside, a cheeky grin adorning her lovely face. Her eyes were sparkling and Ivy didn’t have to think twice to know that she had found out what had transpired when she was at the hospital.

"Good evening, sister," Aria chirped as she almost skipped towards the bed. "How are you feeling now?"

Ivy looked at her suspiciously, wondering what had got her all excited and high. Rolling her eyes, she replied, "I am fine."

"A little birdy told me something happened while I was working," Aria started directly, not beating around the bush.

"I didn’t know birds could speak. Strange," Ivy returned a snarky remark which Aria didn’t mind.

"Joshua and you?" Aria quirked her brows playfully. "Are you guys back together?"

"You can say so," Ivy didn’t hide the truth from her. Since she had decided to give him a chance, there was no use hiding it from her.

"Ivy, may I ask you something?" Aria’s expression changed all of a sudden and Ivy was taken aback to see how serious she had become in an instant.

Baffled, she nodded at her to proceed.

"Ivy, are you really sure you want to reconcile with Joshua?" Aria asked carefully, observing Ivy’s expressions.

She had no idea that her question had forced the man outside the room to stop entering. Like Aria, Joshua had the same question. Although he was jubilant that Ivy had returned to him, he still couldn’t believe it and kept wondering if it was all a dream.

Ivy smiled helplessly and lowered her head. "Call me foolish or anything, I just can’t stop myself from liking him. He hurt me. Yes. I am angry with him. Yes. But I don’t know what else to do." She shrugged lightly, her eyes welling up with emotions.

"I guess I am unable to control my heart because he is the first man I ever loved." Ivy sighed in resignation and Aria bit her lower lip, feeling terrible for her.

However, she still had a few questions to ask. Even if Ivy was in anguish, she decided to go ahead. After all, it involved her sister’s life and happiness.

"Ivy..." Aria hesitated, unable to bring up her next question. Whatever she wanted to ask next could hurt her sister to some extent. But she needed to know the truth to protect her and prevent her from taking the wrong path.

"You can ask me anything, Aria." Ivy allowed her to speak her mind. In the entire world, there were only two people she trusted blindly, her father and her sister. They would never hurt her. Never.

"Ivy..." Aria sighed heavily. "I hope you aren’t doing this exact revenge on Joshua."

Joshua, who was still eavesdropping on their conversation, stiffened at her words. Instantly, his mind started to run wild, and bizarre possibilities popped up.

’What if Ivy is with me to give me back all that I did to her? Does she want to hurt me the way I hurt her?’ he thought, his expression crestfallen and eyes sad.

Smiling in sorrow, Joshua accepted it wholeheartedly. If that was what Ivy wanted to do, he was willing to respect her wishes. He deserved it anyway. She had the right to avenge herself for what he did to her.

However, Ivy’s reply stunned him and his eyes widened in disbelief and relief.

"No, Aria. I have no intentions of exacting any revenge. What kind of movies are you watching? You have been led astray."

"Hey, you can’t blame me. I thought you wanted to put Joshua through the same misery you went through by breaking up in the future." Aria shrugged lightly, discreetly sighing in relief. Her seriousness vanished and in its place, there was genuine happiness.

"I have no intentions of doing so. I don’t want to hurt him. He doesn’t deserve that."

Joshua’s eyes watered at her sincere words. Ivy may seem like a cool and level-headed woman. She was courageous and confident and a risk-taker. But she was also a sweet and kind lady who genuinely loved her family and friends.

Once again, Joshua berated himself for putting her through such misery and wished to smack his head against the wall until he bled. He had sinned and he would forever be regretful of his actions.

Aria too was speechless to see her sister’s selfless love. Joshua was incredibly lucky to have her in his life. Not everyone was fortunate to find someone who would love them unconditionally.

"I don’t know what to say." Aria smiled helplessly. "I just hope you’ll be happy forever, Ivy."

"Me too." Ivy turned towards the window with a distant look on her face. She too wished the same. But it all depended on how things would turn out in the future. It all depended on Joshua- whether he’d make her regret her choosing again or...

"Ladies, what’s happening?" Joshua entered with a glass of juice and a bowl of freshly cut fruits. His timing was impeccable and the depressing air in the room vanished instantly.

Aria shook her head to clear her suspicions while Ivy returned to her normal self, hiding her grievances behind her smile.

"Just chatting," Aria answered. "Congratulations, by the way."

"Thank you, thank you. I will love and treasure Ivy more than my life. You have nothing to worry about, sister-in-law."

Although his tone held a teasing glint, Aria saw the sincerity in his eyes. She didn’t doubt him even for a moment. If he were to ill-treat her sister again, he was a fool and didn’t deserve her.

"I hope you will abide by your words. If you dare hurt Ivy in the future, I’ll chop off your balls. Try me."

Aria wasn’t joking. Since her sister had decided to give Joshua a chance, she respected her wishes. But that didn’t mean she allowed Joshua to do anything he pleased. Ivy wasn’t alone. She wouldn’t allow anyone to bully her.

"Ivy, save me. Your sister wants to cut off our family line," Joshua placed the tray on the table and jumped on the bed, pulling Ivy to shield. All Ivy could do was stare at him helplessly while he hugged her from behind.
