Chapter 844: Justice served

Six days passed since Joshua had cracked the locations and Ethan and his team had managed to detonate twenty-six bombs. They just had two more to take care of.

Ethan had been quick and his team had split themselves, tracking the bombs in different parts of the country at the same time.

Meanwhile, Hotel Arvy had been closed to the public and all the employees were given paid leave. Other than Noah’s men, nobody unauthorized was allowed anywhere near the hotel premises.

"Now he is concerned. What a stupid man!" Aria was close to hurling curses and Noah looked at her curiously, wondering who had stepped on her tail.

"It’s Maggie. Their Chief got the report about the bombs and he almost pissed his pants in fright."

Aria didn’t have a good impression of him. He wasn’t a wise Chief. Even if he deemed it a hoax call, he didn’t do his duty and confirm the truth first. He was all bossy and irresponsible.

"The truth was bound to come to the surface one day." Noah’s focus returned to his laptop as he tried to focus on his work. But it was becoming impossible as time ticked and they inched closer to the ninth day, the deadline to locate the bombs and detonate them.

"True that. Major Meyers is returning to the city tonight. His team will handle the remaining two bombs," Aria relayed the information Maggie had given her. "Do you want to..." She gave Noah a gaze that he understood clearly.

"I have already spoken to him. We are meeting at the hotel directly tonight, once he arrives."

"Oh, I want to..."

"No." Knowing what Aria wanted to say, Noah rejected her instantly.

"Please." Aria gave him her puppy eyes. But it didn’t work on him and he remained adamant.

"No. It ain’t happening. I will not allow you to accompany me."

"But why?" Aria whined.

"It’s dangerous."

"You’re going there. Why not me?" Aria bit out. "Also, don’t you know what I am capable of? I’ll be fine."

"Even if you are invincible or Iron Man’s daughter, I’ll not allow you to accompany me. I’ll never allow you to put yourself in danger."

"Noah..."

"Aria," Noah warned her, his brows raising subtly, daring her challenge him and Aria lost all her courage instantly. She became a meek cat and pouted.

"You may be capable, even more than I am. But you are my girlfriend and it is my duty to keep you safe."

"I should say the same as well. You are my boyfriend. I must protect you too. Why should it be only one way?"

Noah had no words this time. Aria’s point was valid and he had to think for a long time before he compromised.

"Fine. How about this? You can accompany me. But you aren’t allowed to go inside the hotel. You will stay in the car."

"Fine." Aria huffed and Noah shook his head in resignation.

"I want to..." Ivy who was sitting beside them started, only to be interrupted right away.

Noah: You aren’t going.

Aria: You are staying at home.

Joshua: I won’t agree to it.

Ian: No.

Ivy was bereft of speech and she looked at the four baffled.

"I..."

Once again she was interrupted.

All four of them: No.

Ivy shut up instantly. She discerned that her words would go unheard. It was better she remained silent.

"Stay at home and recuperate well, sister. You may run around as much as you want once you return to the pink of health," Aria said in all seriousness and Ivy didn’t dare defy her. Her sister could be frightening at times.

"Will I be alone at home then?"

"Not at all. Dad will be with you." Joshua smiled at her and Ivy returned a glare at him.

"Also, you can invite your friends. They will be happy to visit you."

Ivy cursed under her breath and bit on her apple strongly as she glared at all the people around her, including Ronnie who hadn’t said a word. "Fine. I’ll stay at home. Alone. Happy?" She grimaced and scoffed in anger.

’What did I do, Miss? Why are you angry with me?’ Ronnie thought, complaining to the heavens for being unfair.

Noah’s phone dinged all of a sudden and his lips curled up when he read the message. He glanced at Joshua and Ian, who had an inkling as to what the content of the message was.

"Stevenson is dead," Noah informed and the sisters were shocked at the unexpected news.

"So soon? Wasn’t he captured and brought back to the country two days ago?" Ivy asked, unable to believe how quickly the justice had been served.

"Yeah. It seems a fight broke out between the prison inmates and Stevenson was trying to kill one of them. The guards had no choice but to kill him."

"That’s disappointing! I thought he’d die a horrible death, considering how heinous his crimes were. He got an easy death," Aria said in regret.

’I wonder if you’d say the same if you knew how exactly he died," Noah thought and glanced at Aria discreetly. ’I’m sorry, Aria. I can’t reveal this truth to you. It’s best if you stay far away from all the brutality.’

"By the way, do you think he’d be sentenced to death if he was ever presented to the court?" Joshua steered the topic in another direction when he noticed Ivy observing Noah suspiciously.

"Yes. After all, all the evidence points to him. Jared would have escaped unscathed, but not Stevenson. In this aspect, Jared was smart. He used Stevenson as a shield and the fool didn’t even know it," Ian surmised.

"True that. Imagine if Jared hadn’t taken the wrong path, he’d be a brilliant politician or businessman," Joshua remarked and nobody denied the possibility. The man was freakishly smart. Alas, he had used his smartness in killing people and destroying the nation.

"How long before Major Meyers arrives?" Ian questioned and took a look at the time.

"He’ll reach by 5. But he needs to report to the Commander first. He will be at the hotel by 7," Noah answered.

They had three hours.

"Cool. I’ll take a nap in the meantime. Wake me up in an hour and a half." Ian stifled a yawn and stood up.

Noah nodded and glanced at Aria who seemed to be lost in thoughts.

"Let’s go too." Joshua didn’t ask Ivy’s opinion and picked her up, eliciting a small shriek from her.

"What are you doing? Where are we going?"

"Let’s take a nap as well."

"I don’t want to take a nap." Ivy glared at him which Joshua ignored.

"But I want to and I can’t sleep without you. Give me company."

Joshua didn’t take a no and rushed to Ivy’s room, disregarding Ivy’s objections.

"Do you want to nap for some time as well?" Noah turned to Aria and asked her.

Aria shook her head and looked at him helplessly. "You know I can’t sleep that well."

Aria was still suffering from PTSD and nightmares. Although her sleep quality had improved over time and she could sleep five hours daily, that was it.

Noah didn’t force her. Instead, he focused on another matter. "Aria, do you really want to accompany me tonight?"

Aria nodded. "I’ll not allow you to face danger alone. I’m going with you. You cannot convince me otherwise."

"Fine." Since he couldn’t convince her, he could only relent.
