Falling in Love : I love you, Today and Forever -
Chapter 841: Making up
Chapter 841: Making up
Sensing Ivy’s alienation, Joshua leaned closer to her. But she only moved away, showing him her stance clearly.
"Ivy, I..." Ivy raised her palm at him, forcing him to stop speaking.
"Why are you being this caring with me?" Ivy didn’t beat around the bush and asked him directly, rendering him speechless.
For a moment, Joshua didn’t know what to say and kept gawking at him stupidly.
"Didn’t you break up with me? Why are you still here?" Ivy disregarded his absent-mindedness and fired at him. Since he was done with her, what right did he have to behave as if everything was fine between them?
"Ivy..." Joshua didn’t know how to reply to her. He was ashamed of himself and wanted nothing more than to slap himself for what he had done. Breaking up with Ivy was the worst decision of his life and he regretted it even now.
"What?" Ivy gave him a nonchalant look. "Don’t look at me as if I committed a crime here. Your acts won’t work on me anymore. I was fooled by you once, not again."
"I’m not acting, Ivy. I really love you. I really do. I was foolish to have broken up with you." Joshua’s eyes watered and he knelt before her as he held her palms. But Ivy was quick to escape from him.
"The two things I regret the most are liking Amber in the past and breaking up with you. I will forever be apologetic for it." Joshua looked down dispiritedly.
"I know you hate me. My mere existence might disgust you. But I can’t help it. I love you a lot, a lot more than you can imagine." On noticing Ivy was about to speak, he stopped her, "Let me finish first please."
That shut Ivy up and she waited for him to finish speaking.
"You may never want to have anything to do with me. You may even want to leave me. I’m sorry I can’t do it. I cannot stay away from you anymore. I know my words may sound rubbish after what I did, but I will prove it to you over time. I will prove to you with my actions how much I love you and want you back in my life."
"What if that never happens?" Ivy intervened, forcing Joshua’s confession to come to a halt. "What if I never want to do anything with you? Will you respect my wishes?"
Joshua remained silent and turned his head away from her. He couldn’t do it. Since he couldn’t do what she was asking, he didn’t have the courage to look her in the eye.
Ivy scoffed and looked at the fountain again. "I was about to propose to you on your birthday. I wanted to marry you." She started, recalling the conversation she had with her sister the day before Joshua’s birthday. "Since I love you and you loved me too, I thought we could go ahead and settle down as a couple. I guess I was wrong..."
Tears rolled down her eyes and she closed her eyes in despair.
"No, no, Ivy. Please don’t cry. Please." Joshua cupped her face and panicked when he saw her tears. His heart wrenched in pain to see her in anguish and how he wished to torture himself for what he put her through.
Ivy continued crying with her eyes closed. She ignored the familiar feelings in her heart because of his proximity and touch. She still loved him, she realized. Joshua still affected her more than she had imagined.
Ivy could hate him all she wanted. But she couldn’t bring herself to stay far away from him. She knew it, especially after she learned the truth.
"You know..." she licked her lips, wiping the salty tears on them. "I always thought I found the one. I..." she hiccuped, not having the strength to continue.
"Ivy..." Joshua sighed and pulled her in for a hug.
Surprisingly, she didn’t push him away, too tired to fight with him anymore. The walls around her heart against him were crumbling. The man’s care for her had touched her and she was drawn to him again even when she knew it was wrong.
"I am so sorry, Ivy. Please forgive me." Joshua really was regretful and if she ever felt he wasn’t, he was willing to apologize to her forever.
Ivy didn’t speak a word. She hugged him back and that alone was enough for Joshua to know she was giving him a chance, one last chance. If he fucked up again, she would never forgive him again. Never.
Joshua’s tears slipped out of his eyes and he looked up, his heart thumping madly in joy. He couldn’t believe it at all. His prayers had been answered. The happiness came so suddenly that he wasn’t prepared for it. He didn’t know how to react for a moment.
Pulling back slightly, he held Ivy’s shoulders, his eyes filled with determination. "I will never break your trust again, Ivy. You have my word."
Ivy didn’t react. She just stared back at him with teary eyes.
Joshua sniffled and smiled amidst his tears. "May I kiss you?"
Ivy’s nod was all he needed and when she nodded, he didn’t waste any time. Holding her tenderly, he leaned forward while she closed her eyes.
Joshua didn’t go for her lips. Instead, he aimed for her eyes, kissing away all her tears. He was as gentle as ever, handling her with utmost care and love. She was the treasure he had obtained after a lot of prayers.
"I will always treasure you in my heart," he promised before his hot lips touched her soft ones. Tilting her head back, he caressed her cheek with his other hand, coaxing her to open her mouth for him and when she did, he plunged his tongue inside her mouth.
Joshua didn’t put any pressure on her. Instead, he pulled her on him and leaned back, putting all her weight on him. He was gentle, loving, and careful as he kissed her, showing her how much he loved her and wanted her back in his life.
’Thank you for coming back, Ivy,’ he thought. ’Thank you for giving me a chance. You’ll never regret it. Never.’
