Chapter 815: Discharge - Part 2
After Ian handled all the discharge procedures, it was finally time for them to bring Ivy home.
Although everyone’s mood dropped when they saw the wheelchair, it was only momentary. They cheered up when they saw Ivy in high spirits. It was important to keep Ivy happy; everything else was trivial.
Ivy struggled to get out of bed and she looked at Aria downcast. But Aria didn’t allow her to be aggrived even for a moment.
"How lucky!" She sighed, gaining everyone’s attention to her. "Ivy is going to be treated like princess. I’m jealous."
Ivy rolled her eyes and even glared at her in annoyance. ’Who wanted to be treated like a princess? She was the queen alright.’
"Let me." Ian stepped forward to pick Ivy up. But Joshua beat him to it.
Ivy was caught off guard and in just a blink of an eye, she was lying in Joshua’s embrace as he carried her to wheelchair.
Struggling was futile, she knew it. So, she didn’t put up a fight and accepted his service graciously.
Nodding at him in gratitude, she distanced herself immediately from her, showing him her stance on this matter. He was nothing but a mere acquiantence and would be so forever. There was no need for him to try so hard. Nothing would ever be back to normal between them.
Joshua felt his heart twist in pain and he felt suffocated when he saw Ivy alienating him. But he didn’t show his emotions on his face and remained impassive. He knew he deserved it and he was willing to go through any pain if that was what it took for her forgive him.
"Let’s go." Aria chirped, ignoring the awkwardness in the air and pushed Ivy’s wheelchair.
It was as if the entire hospital knew that Ivy was leaving. A lot of people came to witness the scene as they whispered among themselves. But on seeing the mighty guards, they didn’t linger around any longer and fled from the scene before they were implicated.
Once again problem arose when they reached the car and once again, Joshua was quicker than everyone else. The moment Noah opened the door to the backseat, Joshua picked Ivy up and helped her in.
Although his actions were slowly getting on her nerves, Ivy nevertheless tolerated him and accepted his help again.
’Patience, Ivy. Patience. Don’t lose your calm.’ She mumbled and took deep breaths to keep her temper in check.
Fortunately for her, Joshua didn’t join her in the back seat. Instead, her father sat beside her while Aria took the shotgun and Noah being their driver for a the day.
Ivy was satisfied with the arrangement. At least, she didn’t have to see Joshua’s disguting face anymore. She was close to slapping him every time he touched her. It was as if a thousand ants were crawling on her body.
With the car now full, Ian and Joshua could only opt for another car to leave the hospital.
"Aren’t you being ridiculous?" Ian questioned angrily when Joshua took to the roads as he followed Noah closely behind.
"How so?" Joshua looked at him puzzled. He couldn’t fathom what Ian was trying to say.
"Can’t you give Ivy a break? Didn’t you see her expression when you carried her, not once but twice?" Ian was seething and was close to smacking Joshua’s head against the windshield.
"What was her expression?" Joshua gave Ian an expectant look, rendering him bereft of speech for a long time.
"Are you serious?" Ian was too flummouxed to say anything else. ’Was Joshua this annoying in the past or did he become like this now?’ He wondered, holding himself back from smacking his friend.
"Uhh..yeah." Joshua replied as he stopped right behind Noah’s car when the signal turned red.
"Stop playing games here, Joshua. Didn’t see you Ivy was close to losing her mind when you lifted her?"
"Really?"
Contrary to what he had expected, Joshua’s eyes lit up and Ian didn’t know how to react for a moment.
"Did you really see her annoyed expression? I thought she trying to alienate me." Joshua mumbled as he started driving again when the signal turned green.
"At least, she showed some emotion towards me. Being irked is better than being emotionless and treating me like a stranger."
"Don’t cross your limits, Joshua. Ivy might not like it. She must be hating your right now." Ian warned, unable to tolerate his friend’s shamelessness anymore.
"There is a thin line between hate and love, Ian. It’s just a matter of time before the line vanishes." Joshua said with such resolve that Ian almost believed him.
"Joshua, don’t do anything reckless. Ivy is finally recovering. It’d be detrimental if her emotions go haywire and her health deteriorates."
"What do you take me for, Ian? Do you think I want to harm her?"
Ian remained silent.
"I know I was wrong in the past and I have sinned. You have no idea how I felt when I saw Ivy covered in blood and barely breathing. It was as if I was about to die myself. I love her, Ian. I love her a lot, even more than my life maybe. I’ll forever be guilty and apologetic for what I did. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to let go of her."
Joshua shook his head as his hold on the steering wheel tightened.
"It’s one thing if Ivy wants to forgive me or not. It’s completely upto her. I won’t force her to forgive me and she shouldn’t either, not so easily. But that won’t stop me from loving her. I will always be hers as she’ll always be mine."
"Joshua..."
"At the end of the day, irrespective of what happens, irrespective of whether she forgives me or not, she will be mine and only mine. Nobody can change it."
Ian was frightened when he saw the possessive look on his face. It was it Joshua was completely obsessed with Ivy and he would stop at nothing to get her.
"Don’t look at me that way. I’m not a monster." Joshua chucked when he noticed Ian’s cautious look.
"Joshua, I don’t know what to say. Just don’t hurt Ivy, please."
"Never. I will never hurt Ivy. From now on, her life will only be filled with happiness and I will make sure of it. You can trust me on that." Joshua vowed as he stared at the faint silhoutte in the car ahead of him.
A heavy silence fell upon them and nobody said a word until they reached Noah’s mansion.
