Chapter 808: Turning over a new leaf? - Part 2

Mia jumped to her feet the moment Noah entered the meeting room. The man oozed anger and she didn’t have to look at his face to see him glare at her. She could feel it even though she had eyes on her feet.

"Miss Stevenson," Noah unbuttoned her coat and took his chair. "Speak." He barked, his voice making her flinch in fright. But he didn’t offer any words of apology or concern, she didn’t deserve it.

"I came here to.. to.. to apologize to you, Mr. Carter." Mia stuttered, too scared to look at him.

Noah noticed the way she was addressing him. Unlike the previous times when she had called him by his name, this time she was addressing him formally.

"Why? May I ask?" He didn’t trust her, not even an ounce. The lady looked weak and meek, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t wicked. He knew what she had done and how far she had gone. For what? Just to get him.

"For plotting against you and your girlfriend." Mia didn’t dare sit. Since Noah hadn’t permitted her to, she remained standing. So, it seemed she was here to confess her crimes before the judge.

"How did you plot against me?"

"By joining hands with Jared," Mia revealed, the exact information Noah had against her. "Although it was my Dad who was involved with him, I did have a play in it as well."

Mia went silent when she didn’t receive any response from Noah. The man was frightening and slowly, she was losing all her confidence. Even her hands were trembling in nervousness and she had to hold them tight to stop herself from quivering. Cold sweat trickled down her spine as she waited for him to speak.

"Please take your seat." Noah finally permitted her to sit down and Mia felt her legs weighing her down. It took her quite a few seconds to drag herself towards the chair and sit down.

"Now speak," Noah ordered, his tone considerately gentler. Nevertheless, Mia didn’t miss the alienness in it. Noah still treated her like a stranger, maybe even worse and that wouldn’t change any time soon.

"Mr. Carter, a few years ago, Jared approached my father with a deal." Mia started and Noa leaned forward on the table and clasped his hands, interested to learn what else Mia had to say than what he already knew.

"I don’t know what the deal was. But I was pulled into the plan after they discovered my feelings for you. They wanted me to seduce you." Mia confessed, her cheeks turned a lighter shade of pink in embarrassment. But she didn’t stop speaking, even when she saw Noah barely showing any reaction to her words.

"Since I loved you, I was convinced by them and tried all I could to get close to you."

Noah recalled the few times he had met Mia and how she had tried to get close to him using all sorts of excuses.

"But one day, I eavesdropped on a conversation between my father and Jared."

Noah’s eyes narrowed. She had got to the point finally.

"They were talking about some explosives and a lot of other things I couldn’t understand."

Noah’s brows shot up at her words, the first obvious emotion he had shown her other than anger.

"I couldn’t hear much. But I know they were talking about bombs and some Mission Code X. They kept mentioning you every few seconds and I presumed the matter had something to do with you."

Noah tilted his head as he observed her. She didn’t seem to be lying. Mia was frightened out of her wits and was putting in a lot of effort to appear calm and confident before him. But nothing showed that he was trying to trick him.

’What happened to her?’ He wondered, for the first time examining her. He hadn’t taken a good look at her when he had seen her first. Now that he studied her, he didn’t miss the fingerprints on her neck. Although she had hidden them behind her long hair and the thick sweater she was wearing, one that was highly unsuitable for the current weather, they were still visible whenever she moved and his brows contorted into a frown.

"I wanted to inform you about the matter. But..." Mia’s face lost all the color and Noah discerned immediately what might have happened after that.

Mia choked suddenly and Noah waited patiently for her to calm down.

"They caught me before I could even leave and since then, I have been staying as a captive in my house. I can neither leave my room nor contact anyone. All means of communication were confiscated."

"How did you manage to get out today, Miss Stevenson?" Noah interrupted her suddenly. He looked at her skeptically and Mia didn’t know if he believed her or not. But she didn’t care. She wasn’t here to convince him.

"I was able to escape because Dad was going bonkers and he had no time to keep an eye on me. He has received the news about Jared."

"And he is now preparing to escape to protect himself," Noah added.

"More or less." Mia agreed, her eyes laced filled with sadness.

Noah didn’t pity her. But, he still pushed a bottle of water toward her.

"Thank you." Mia sniffled and opened the bottle before taking a small sip.

"Why are you telling me this?"

"I may be obsessed with you, Mr. Carter. But that doesn’t mean I want to harm people, not the innocent ones at least. Considering what I heard, I am sure my Dad and Jared had some deadly intentions, ones that could potentially harm a lot of people. And I don’t want that to happen."

Until then, Noah had felt nothing. He had remained stoic and distant. But now, his indifference cracked, and a strong sense of admiration was evoked for her. It wasn’t easy for her. Yet, she had chosen to sacrifice everything for what was right, and this alone was enough for him to look at her in a new light.

"Did you come here to seek help from me?"

"Yes," Mia replied and hesitated. "I want you to help me stop my Dad. I don’t know what he is planning to do. But his scheme is malicious."

Noah was surprised by her request. He had expected her to ask him to help her. Who knew...

"I can do that." Noah’s tone was filled with a promise and Mia sighed in relief, her tense body relaxing visibly.

"But Mia can you do something for me?" Noah tapped his fingers on the table as he thought about it.

"Yes, if it is within my ability." Mia agreed in a second, ignoring how he had addressed her. For the first time, he called her by name. But Mia was too past the stage to gush and rejoice over it.

"Could you look for a file? It might be in your Dad’s possession." Noah didn’t know if he was going in the right direction. But he had to take a gamble and this was the only path he could think of.

"What kind of a file?" Mia tilted her head in confusion.

"I don’t know. But I’m assuming it must mention some places in our country, or maybe you can look for anything that seems suspicious."

"I can do that." Mia didn’t hesitate again and Noah looked at her for a moment before he texted Ronnie who entered the room immediately.

"Send someone to protect her in secret and give your number to her." He ordered before returning his gaze to Mia. "You may contact him if you need anything, anything at all."

Noah stood up and Mia followed suit. "Thank you so much, Mia. I appreciate your help."

Noah turned around to leave but stopped short when Mia stopped him.

"Thank you so much, Noah. Thank you for believing me." Mia smiled dejectedly at him. "It means a lot to me. Really."
