Chapter 809: Nightmare
Chapter 809: Nightmare
"What do you think, Ronnie? Is she telling the truth?" Noah questioned once they were out of the meeting room.
"Boss?" Ronnie gave him a puzzled look. He didn’t know why his Boss was asking him. But he did know that the man ahead of him was aware he had heard everything Mia had said even though he wasn’t inside the meeting room. After all, the room wasn’t soundproof and the door wasn’t locked.
"Should I trust her?"
"I’m not sure, Boss. But the lady does seem to be honest."
"Hmm." Noah hummed thoughtfully. "Keep an eye on her. She may be honest right now, but that doesn’t mean she’ll not turn against us if the situation arises."
"Yes, Boss." Ronnie agreed instantly.
Noah’s mood changed the instant he got closer to his office. Thinking about his lady waiting for him inside made his feet work faster. His eyes searched for her when he entered the room and when he saw her on the couch on the other end of the room, his gaze softened.
Closing the door after him as silently as possible, he approached her and knelt before her. Aria was deep asleep. She didn’t even react when he ran his fingers on her cheeks.
Noah was aware that Aria hadn’t been sleeping well. Nightmares consumed her every time she slept and she would wake up crying and screaming. The night of the mishap had left a deep trauma on her and it would take her a lot of time to get out of it, maybe a few months or even years.
One night, Aria had almost strangled him in her nightmare and he had to use a lot of power to subdue her and break her out of her daze. And when she finally did, she didn’t stop apologizing to him. She was so regretful of her actions that she even suggested sleeping in different rooms.
However, Noah wasn’t keen on it, and neither did he agree to it. It didn’t matter to him how aggressive she became due to her nightmares. He wanted to be there for her and he did just that every night, holding her while they slept.
Every time she woke up screaming and crying, he would cuddle her, kiss her, and hold her close, assuring her everything was alright. Ivy was safe, she was safe. Although it took him a long time to get her back, not once did he leave her. She needed him and he was willing to do anything for her. Anything at all.
"No." Aria writhed, her voice filled with desperation and heartbreak. "Ivy, no." She cried as tears slipped down her eyes.
Noah scooted closer to her when he saw that she was having the nightmare again. "Aria." His voice was as gentle as possible as he held her hand, trying to calm her down without waking her.
"No, Ivy. Please." Aria begged and Noah’s heart twisted in pain when he saw the tears now running down her cheeks.
Wiping them gently, he moved closer to her until he was just a few inches away. "Aria, wake up, please. It’s me, Noah."
Aria was too consumed by her nightmare to not realize or sense anything else. She twisted her body again and her cries became louder.
How Noah hoped for Aria’s nightmare to vanish without her waking. But he knew it wasn’t possible when he saw her pained expression. Aria hadn’t had a good sleep in a while and he understood that she wouldn’t have one today either.
"Aria, wake up, sweetie. It’s me, Noah." He tried again. But Aria was too far gone to hear anything else. She was trapped in her nightmare, returning to the very day when she almost lost her sister.
"No, please no," Aria screamed, now thrashing in Noah’s arms. "Ivy, no. Please."
Noah’s heart shattered bit by bit when he saw her state. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know how to ease her from her agony. He didn’t know how to help her forget everything. All he knew was that she was in immense pain and he had to do something to help her.
With that thought, he leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers. At first, Aria struggled and tried to push him away in her sleep. But Noah dropped all his weight on her, rendering her incapable of doing anything, not even moving.
Noah kissed her slowly, softly, his lips caressing hers as he poured out all his love and care for her. Eventually, Aria succumbed to the kiss and she stopped moving. She even started to respond to him gradually and her eyes shot open, the unshed tears in them close to tumbling down.
Noah had been observing her. When he saw her awake, he stopped kissing her and pulled away, his thumb moving to her cheek to wipe away her tears.
"Everything is fine, Aria." He assured her. "We are fine, Ivy is fine. I promise."
Aria’s lips trembled. But she didn’t cry anymore. Instead, she leaned forward in a flash to hug, the sudden impact sending Noah to lose his balance. But he didn’t let go of her and hugged her back.
Aria was trembling in his arms, he could feel it. But he didn’t say a word and rubbed her back, his other hand wrapped around her waist, providing her the security she needed.
It took Aria a long time to gain control of her emotions and by the time she did, Noah’s legs were close to going numb. But he didn’t mind it.
"Thank you." Aria breathed as she pulled away and Noah smiled faintly, leaning forward to kiss her forehead.
"Always." Noah held her close. Even though she was awake now, he didn’t let her go.
"How did your meeting go?" Aria asked, her voice muffled against his chest.
"It went well. Do you want something, something to eat or drink perhaps?"
"Yes, please. May I have some water?"
"I’ll be right back."
Reluctantly, he let go of her and walked to the refrigerator. Retrieving a bottle of water and a bar of chocolate from the small pantry, he sat beside her again and handed the bottle to her first.
"Thank you." Aria took it and emptied it in a few seconds while Noah unwrapped the chocolate.
"Here." He then handed her the bar of chocolate which she took with a sheepish smile.
"Is it time for us to go?"
Noah glanced at his watch and nodded lightly. He had been gone for more than thirty minutes and Aria had been awake before he left. So, it meant she slept for thirty minutes or less. He had wanted her to sleep more. But the nightmare had got to her again and now, she was wide awake.
Noah wanted her to sleep more. She hadn’t got a good rest in a long time. But he knew it wasn’t happening any time soon. Aria wouldn’t be able to sleep again, now that she was forced to wake up. They might as well go. Perhaps, venting out her anger on Jared and Amber could help with her trauma. He thought, hoping for Aria to get out of her trauma as quickly as possible.
