Chapter 790: Waking up - Part 2
Cheers erupted immediately and Aria hugged Noah while Oliver kneeled on the floor as he looked up in relief.
"Noah, did you hear that? Ivy is awake." Aria couldn’t stop her tears of joy and Noah nodded at her, his eyes tearing up in return as well. "She is finally awake."
Their joy was so contagious that even the doctor couldn’t stop beaming. For the nth time in his life, he felt proud of his profession and he wouldn’t trade his life with anything else, irrespective of what.
"Doctor, how is she?" Ian asked immediately and the doctor understood what he was referring to.
"She’s fine and all her reports seem normal as well. However, we do not know if there are any lingering effects due to her injury. After all, she was hit in the head." The doctor didn’t hide the truth from the others this time and they listened to him intently.
"We can only say anything once the patient starts recovering and gets better."
"Doctor, can we meet her?" Ian questioned as he controlled his glee.
"Yes, you may. But please go one at a time and make sure not to tire her out."
"Thank you, doctor."
"Dad, you should go first." Aria voiced but the old man shook his head.
"No, Aria. You should go first. After all, it was you who brought her back."
"But..."
"Aria," Oliver gave her a look that shut her up. "Listen to me. Go and meet her first. I’m sure she feels safer with you around."
"Aria, listen to Dad. You go first." Noah too urged her and Aria gave up fighting.
Glancing at them one by one, Aria entered the ICU slowly so as to not scare her sister. Ivy was staring at the ceiling blankly. Her entire head was covered with gauze and she looked so weak, so feeble that a small wind could blow her away.
It pained Aria to see her sister this way. But she controlled her emotions and donned a smile as she stood by her sister’s side.
"Hey, Ivy." She called gently. "Can you hear me?"
Ivy blinked once as an indication and Aria was instantly elated.
"Thank you so much for not up, Ivy. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know what to do without you." Aria expressed her thoughts as she withheld her tears. "Do you know how much I love you?"
Ivy blinked twice in response as tears fell out of her eyes and Aria panicked instantly.
"Hey, no crying, no crying. You’re not allowed to cry. I won’t cry either." Aria wiped her tears before she pulled out a tissue and wiped her sister’s tears as well.
"I’ll not speak about the sad things anymore. You just need to recover well and once you’re perfectly fine, let’s go on a trip. Didn’t you say you wanted to go on a road trip in New Zealand?"
Ivy blinked her eyes again and Aria clapped excitedly. "It fixed then. We’re going on a long trip once you are back on your feet. I’ll have to leave now, Ivy. The others are waiting to meet you as well. I’ll meet you again later." Aria stopped for a moment before she composed her expression. "Remember, we are going on a road trip in New Zealand once you recover."
After Aria, Oliver entered the room and Ivy’s tears slipped out instantly.
"How are you, sweetie?"
Ivy blinked her eyes a few times in response and Oliver sighed as he wiped her tears.
"You’re not allowed to do that to me again. Do you have any idea how scared I was? I thought I almost lost you."
Ivy’s tears continued to fall and Oliver too couldn’t control himself.
"You’re going to get from me once you get well. Is this how you scare this poor old man?" Oliver scolded gently, his tone filled with heartache as he held her hand.
"Don’t think about anything else. Just recover well. Let us have our long-awaited cooking competition. After all, we need to find out who among us cooks the best."
Ivy blinked her eyes twice as if she had accepted the challenge and Oliver let out a laugh.
"I’ll see you later, sweetie. Others are waiting to meet you. There are a lot of people who love you. You know that right?"
This time, Ivy did not reply instantly. Instead, she stared at the ceiling for a few seconds before she finally reacted.
Oliver’s heart broke to see her this way. He didn’t have to guess who she was thinking about at that moment. But he didn’t have the guts to speak to her about him. So, he swallowed his words and left the ICU, allowing Noah to go in next.
"Hi, Ivy." Barely had he started speaking when Ivy’s eyes quivered and she started shaking.
Noah realized what was happening to her. So, he took a step away from her but made sure to remain in her line of sight.
"It’s me, Ivy, Noah. I mean you no harm."
Ivy finally stopped trembling when she heard his name and she calmed down slowly, making Noah sigh in relief.
"I heard from Dad that there will be a cooking competition to find out who cooks the best. May I join the contest too? After all, I’m a master chef myself."
Ivy blinked once and Noah was stunned when he saw her eyes narrowing.
’Was that a smile see there, Ivy? That’s right. Keep smiling, Ivy. You deserve nothing but happiness.’ He thought, rejoicing at his small attempt to make her smile.
"I think I should start preparing from now. I can’t lower my guard. After all, my competitors are too strong. I can’t allow them to bully me." Noah continued, hoping that his light-hearted words would help Ivy.
After Noah, it was Ian’s turn. By then, Ivy was exhausted and she was close to losing herself to sleep.
"Hi, Ivy. It’s me, Ian." Ian lowered his voice as much as possible. He didn’t miss how her blinks started becoming longer and longer. The medicine she had been injected with was slowly kicking in and she was starting to feel drowsy.
"I’ll not hold much of your time. I just came to tell you I’ll be cheering for you in the cooking competition."
Ivy could only manage a blink before she succumbed to her sleep.
"Get well soon, Ivy," Ian mumbled and sighed when he thought of the man waiting outside desperately to meet Ivy. Taking a glance at the sleeping woman, he checked her vitals just to make sure before he left the ICU.
