Chapter 791: Aria and Oliver’s attitude
Joshua was excited yet scared to meet Ivy, and he couldn’t stop moving as he waited for Ian to come. He started to mentally prepare himself for what he’d say inside.
’Should I apologize first? Should I say something else?’ He wondered as he glanced at the ICU.
He stopped walking when a thought entered his mind all of a sudden. ’What if I agitate her? Should I go? Or should I not go?’ He felt terrible when he thought about it. ’But what to do? I can’t stay away. I need to see her too. I need to....’
At that moment, Ian exited the ICU, and Joshua rushed towards him enthusiastically.
"How is she, Ian? Is she okay?" Joshua was just about to rush inside the ICU as well when Ian stopped him.
"Joshua, she’s asleep."
His words were like a basin of cold water thrown over his enthusiasm, and Joshua’s smile vanished instantly.
"What?"
"She was too exhausted, and the doctor had given her a high dosage of medicines. She is bound to fall asleep, and I feel it’s good that she did. It’ll help her heal better and recover well." Ian voiced his thoughts. He was unable to see Joshua’s dispirited face. It was bad for him. But at the same time, he was relieved, for which he felt guilty.
Joshua’s smile slipped, and he looked at the ICU sadly. But his sorrow was only for a fleeting moment. He composed himself the next instant, and his smile returned.
"It does not matter. Can I at least see her?"
Ian just nodded at him, and Joshua entered the ICU immediately, not wasting another moment away from the girl who he started to love to death.
Aria and Oliver studied him from where they were. But they didn’t stop him, much to Noah and Ian’s surprise. They couldn’t comprehend what was running in their minds and why they were this tolerant of him.
Joshua closed the door after him and walked as silently as possible. Even though Ivy was knocked out due to the heavy dosage of medicines, he still was careful.
His lips arched up into a blissful smile when he saw her. Now that she was awake, his heavy and restless heart finally settled down. In fact, he was relieved that she was asleep. He didn’t know how to face her after what he did to her. He was scared of her reaction and even more so when he thought how his presence might agonize her all the more.
Taking the chair beside her bed, he took her hand in his as he tried to be as gentle as possible. "Hi, Ivy. It’s me, Joshua. I’m so happy that you woke up, sweetheart."
Leaning forward, he pressed his forehead against the back of her palm. "And I’m so sorry, my dear. I’m so sorry. You gave me everything. But I... I gave you nothing but pain. I’m so sorry. Please forgive me if possible."
Joshua paused speaking for a moment as he returned to watching her, his eyes filled with love, guilt, sadness, and hope. "I don’t deserve your forgiveness, and it is completely up to you if you wish to forgive me or not. But let me tell you that I’ll not stop apologizing to you even if I’ll have to do it for all our lives."
"And Ivy," Joshua kissed her palm as he bent forward. "I love you. I love you so damn much. Please just get well soon and...."
Joshua couldn’t speak anymore. His eyes welled up, and he choked on his tears. "Just get well soon, darling. I’ll be right beside you until you wake up and even after."
A long time passed, and Joshua didn’t leave the ICU. While Aria and Oliver didn’t react to this, Noah and Ian looked at each other in worry. A silent message passed between the friends, and Ian nodded at Noah before he approached the ICU.
Taking a deep breath, he entered it and was stunned immediately. Ivy was deep asleep as he had expected. It was Joshua’s state, however, that shocked him. The man who had slept much in the last few days was sleeping with his head on the bed as he sat on the chair. Ivy’s palm was enclosed within his hands as if he were scared that she’d vanish suddenly.
Ian didn’t have the heart to wake him up. Even though the position would give him a sore back and neck later, he couldn’t bring himself to ask him to sleep somewhere else.
Ian had seen how listless Joshua had been in the last few days. He had not been sleeping or eating well. Other than the time when he’d return home to change his clothes and freshen up, he hadn’t left Ivy’s side even once. The man had given up on everything else so that he could stay by her.
Seeing him deep asleep, Ian shut his eyes tight as he pressed the space between his brows. ’Joshua...’ He sighed before he left the ICU, and his gaze connected with Noah immediately.
Ian tilted his head as if indicating that Joshua was deep asleep, and Noah understood him right away. Nodding at him lightly, he glanced at Aria and Oliver, who were oblivious to their actions.
Glancing at the father and the daughter duo, Ian padded towards Noah. He was utterly surprised by their calm attitude towards Joshua. If it was him, he wouldn’t want Joshua anywhere near Ivy after what he did to her, friend or not. Many times, he wanted to ask them about it. But he didn’t have the heart, and eventually, he gave up.
"Isn’t Aria and Mr. West’s attitude towards Joshua a little surprising?" He questioned the moment he was beside Noah.
"Do you feel the same as well? I’m uncertain what is running through their minds." Noah replied as he glanced at the two.
"Should we ask them about it?"
"Do you want to?" Noah was not sure if it was a good idea or not.
The two men were so lost in their conversation that they missed noticing Aria approaching them, and she overheard a part of their conversation instantly.
"What do you want to ask? And who do you want to ask?"
