Chapter 779: Praying

Oliver was the first one to enter the ICU and the moment he saw his little girl all wounded and covered in gauze, he burst out crying. It was the worst feeling for any father in the world to see his dear girl lying in a dreadful state as she battled for life. How he wished to switch places with Ivy!

Holding her hand gently, he took the chair beside the bed. He didn’t know what to say. He didn’t know how to say anything as well. It was as if he had forgotten how to speak. All he felt was an unbearable pain as he kept staring at his daughter. It was a sight he never wished to see in his life.

Tears clouded his eyes, making it impossible for him to see anything. Yet, he didn’t avert his gaze from her. It was as if he was hoping for her to sense his anguish and wake up. He just wanted her to wake up. That’s all. Nothing else mattered in the world.

Oliver didn’t know how long he had been sitting silently. The entire time, he just continued to watch Ivy with an unfathomable smile on his face and teary eyes. All the happy moments in his life flooded his mind and every one of them had just his family.

How he wished to return to those good old days! How he wished to bring those lovely moments back!

Aria entered after a few seconds passed and her state was no less different than her father’s. Seeing her sister, her twin, her soul in such a state put her in such misery that her entire heart ached. She had not stopped crying and the moment she saw her sister’s unrecognizable face, her cries only turned louder.

None of them spoke a word. While Oliver continued to gaze at Ivy dotingly, Aria kept crying as she hoped for her sister to wake up.

A few minutes later, Ian entered and noticed the state they were in. But he ignored them and looked at Ivy first. Even he couldn’t control his tears as he looked at the lady who hadn’t shown any vulnerability to the world now lying before him in such a weak state. None of them knew when she’d wake up, if she’d even wake up, and the fact that there a was high she wouldn’t terrified him.

"Ivy, get well soon. We’re all waiting for you." He too didn’t know what to say to her. He just stared at her for a few more moments before he approached Oliver who had not moved from his place even once.

"Mr. West, shall we go outside? Let the others meet her as well."

Oliver didn’t hear a word he said. He was lost in looking at his dear girl to care about anything else.

"Mr. West?" Ian called him again, this time a little louder and Oliver raised his head to look at him. All of a sudden, the man seemed to have aged twenty years and Ian felt terrible for him.

"Shall we go out? Let the others meet her as well."

Ian didn’t know if the man heard him or not. Oliver seemed to have gone into a trance as he continued to stare at Ivy absent-mindedly.

Ian was just about to speak to him again when the man sighed softly and after patting Ivy’s palm gently, he stood up.

Ian gave him a sad smile and held his hand. The man seemed to be on the verge of collapsing and needed someone to support him. Ian then looked at Aria.

"Aria, shall we leave?" He questioned. Unlike her father, Aria was aware of her surroundings and she nodded lightly as she continued to stare at her sister.

Hugging her by her shoulder, Ian led the two out of the ICU, silently giving them the strength and support they needed.

Noah was waiting for them outside and the moment he saw the three walking out, he observed them one by one. Each of them held a different expression. But he knew and understood what was running in their minds. He had experienced a similar trauma when his grandfather had been admitted to the hospital.

But his experience was different. His old man had fallen sick due to stress and old age. Ivy, however.... Noah even dreaded to enter the ICU. He didn’t know if he could endure the agony of seeing her lying unconscious and unresponsive.

Gaining a nod from Ian, Noah brought Joshua inside the ICU and the moment he saw Ivy, felt his heart bleed. It was as if someone had twisted it with tweezers.

Joshua’s reaction however was completely different from Noah’s. It seemed as if he had become a madman. The moment he saw her, he rushed to her and held her hand. "Ivy..." His voice was hoarse and filled with unconcealed guilt, sorrow and heartbreak.

"I’m so sorry, sweetheart. I’m so sorry." Joshua lowered his head as if he was confessing his sins to his God. "It was all my fault. If only I had trusted your love for me more, if only I had thought about you, about us instead of just me. I’ll not ask you to forgive me for I know I don’t deserve it. Just wake up. Just open your lovely eyes, Ivy and that is all I ask for you."

Noah didn’t know how to react for a moment. Joshua’s words touched him. It was evident how deeply he loved Ivy. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have looked like he was on the verge of dying. But his action of hurting her to protect his heart was a truth as well and that defied all his love for her.

"You may hit me, slap me, scold me, or even chop me into pieces and I’ll not say a word. Just come back. I promise I’ll be your slave for my whole life."

Noah shook his head silently. What was the use of making all these promises after breaking her heart? He didn’t know if Ivy was listening or not. Yet, somewhere in his heart, he hoped for her to listen to Joshua and wake up. He didn’t know when she’d wake up. But he hoped it to be soon. She had to. After all, all her loved ones were waiting for her.
