Chapter 181: Need

Serena felt trapped and helpless as she stared at the television, her eyes glued to the flickering images that provided no real update on Aiden. Every second that passed without news only intensified the anxiety pooling in her chest. Dammit! she thought, biting her lower lip to stop it from trembling. This was torture. Being here, unable to rush to his side, felt like a cruel punishment. Resisting the urge to push past Mahi and storm out of this place seemed like an impossible task.

The media footage switched between the exterior of the hospital and grainy shots of the crash site, but none of it offered any clarity. Serena’s frustration bubbled over. What had happened to the investigative skills of journalists? They were so busy clamoring for scraps of information, camping outside the hospital, that they had forgotten how to dig deeper for the truth. Why hadn’t any of them managed to get inside or get reliable details on the accident? What was wrong with them?

A cup of warm milk was appeared in front of her and Serena looked up and rolled her eyes," "What now? You’re my nanny too? You’re quite multi faceted, Assistant Mahi."

Serena’s fingers curled around the warm mug, its heat seeping into her palms and offering a small semblance of comfort. She closed her eyes for a moment, drawing in a slow, steadying breath. The reality of Aiden’s meticulous planning sank deeper into her mind. "Right now, I hate him," she muttered, the corners of her mouth turning down in a mix of anger and affection. "I used to marvel at how he could think ten steps ahead, how easily he could predict everyone’s moves. But now, knowing he planned for this

—that he had all these measures in place for me, not for himself—it makes me want to kick his very fine but*."

Mahi couldn’t help but chuckle, the sound light and surprisingly soothing in the tense room. "He anticipated that, too," she said, her tone teasing. "Although, I’m sure he didn’t quite expect the compliment to his but*—just the part where you’d want to kick it."

Serena glanced up at Mahi, a reluctant smile tugging at her lips despite everything. The humor didn’t erase her worry, but it provided a sliver of distraction from the suffocating tension.

Just then, the sudden shift in the broadcast caught Serena’s attention, her eyes snapping to the screen as the reporter’s voice filled the room.

The reporter, standing just outside the police tape, wore an expression of practiced composure as the camers focused on the . "We are here at the scene of a serious collision involving Aiden Hawk, CEO of Hawk Industries. As you can see, the vehicle sustained significant damage, especially on the passenger side, which was crushed in the impact. Miraculously, the driver CEO Aiden Hawk himself- was alone at the time—has survived and remains in critical but stable condition. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and no fatalities have been reported. The driver of the truck seems to have also escaped as he feld the scene in this case."

The screen flickered, now showing another reporter stationed outside the hospital entrance, the soft glow of streetlights reflecting off the polished glass behind her. She held a microphone tightly, her breath visible in the cool night air. "An update from the hospital confirms that Mr. Aiden Hawk is currently stable, though still undergoing surgery. Sources state he has sustained fractures to his ribs and an injury to his arm. However, doctors are optimistic that there are no injuries severe enough to have long-term consequences."

Serena released a shaky breath, the tension in her shoulders loosening just a fraction at the news that Aiden’s injuries, though serious, weren’t life-threatening. She closed her eyes for a second, a silent thank-you whispered to the universe. But the reprieve was short-lived.

The reporter’s expression darkened slightly, her tone shifting to one of seriousness. "Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. It’s been reported that the driver of the truck involved has absconded and is currently missing. Law enforcement is treating this as a potential hit-and-run and are considering whether foul play could be involved."

Finally, now that she’d received news, Mahi turned off the television and turned to her," You need to take a break from staring at the television now. Any more update and I will let you know. But for now, take a break, rest and regroup. To be prepared for when they come after you."

"How far has the investigation reached?" She asked slowly and Mahi shook her head," You already heard the news..."

"I am asking about his team’s investigation not the police investigation. You and I both know his people must already be investigating."

Mahi inhaled and spoke slowly," I haven’t been in touch with Assistant An directly but it seems the driver is indeed still missing. However, they’ve already established that he was being followed for some time just not from the Governor’s home. Also, the driver absconding could be that it really was not a targeted attack, and the person simply caused the accident and then ran away in a panic.

"They’ve contacted the owner of the trailer company and all background check reveal that it has not been involved in any shady dealings in the past. So, this could be one of those freak things."

"I don’t like freak things and this could be too much of a coincidence. Has Corrick done anything about this."

"Yes. Corrick has already been questioned because Aiden was visiting him so he will be under fire for a long time and if he is involved then Chairwoman Hawk, is going to get involved..."

"She has also left you a message saying that you should not worry and that she will take care of Aiden for you and once he recovers, she will also scold him for you."

Serena gave a tired smile then. Mabel Hawk and Aiden Hawk really were cut from some different cloth. He’d made preparations for her safety if something happened to her and Grandma was consoling her when she was the reason her grandson was in the hospital. The accident that took her to Aiden turned out to be too lucky for her.
