FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING -
Chapter 86: THE BONDS THAT BIND (2)
Chapter 86: THE BONDS THAT BIND (2)
Velmoria swallowed the lump that had settled in her throat, forcing herself to remain composed, as impossible as that was. The simple acknowledgement of her name had sent a shiver down her spine. Still in an awful attempt at remaining composed, Velmoria gave another curtsy, "I will have to leave now your majesty, I hope you enjoy your tea."
This was her attempt at running away, a futile one perhaps, but an attempt nonetheless. The queen, seemingly not noticing the electricity that crackled between the succubus, the noble demon and the angel.
But then again, she doubted the queen had discovered that she and the king were mates, or if she had, it had not been long since she had made the discovery. "Before you leave, can you show Cassie the gardens. He gushed about them because he has never seen white roses before."
"I did not gush." Castiel tapped her forehead with his knuckles, "have your words right."
"It’s the same thing." The queen waved a hand, "after you are done showing him around the gardens, bring him back so that he can join us for tea." She turned to the ladies, "Ladies, this is Castiel, son of Camael. He will be joining us for tea, I hope you have no issues with that." The three ladies let out noises of disagreement, assuring the queen that they had no problem with her brother joining them.
Meanwhile, Velmoria’s stomach twisted violently. She wanted to run. There was no way she could afford being alone with him. Not now, not when it felt like she was going to jump him by simply being a few feet away from him.
"My Queen, I--" she prepared to decline the queen’s instructions.
"I would love to take a tour of the garden as well," Lady Darvia’s voice came from the side. Velmoria’s breath caught. The young lady rose to her feet, her pink eyes flickering between Velmoria and Castiel. She walked up to them, and her scent sent Velmoria’s heart hammering wildly against her ribs.
"I have only heard tales of the magnificent garden the king made for the queen. I simply have to see more of it." She gave a curtsy to the queen. Her bubbly personality was back, as if she had not gone silent for a few minutes.
"Aw, but we still have not heard the rest of your story." Lady Seraphine spoke up from the tea table.
"Let her go. I am sure she is tired of sitting here with old people like us." Lady Immera said, her eyes glancing at the four people standing near the garden door. "We also have matters to discuss. She can join us after they are shown the gardens."
Velmoria was silent this entire time, wondering how she could survive not jumping the two, wondering how she could run from the situation if the opportunity presented itself. Of course, the opportunity was not going to present itself. However, a demon could wish.
Before she could make up her mind on what she should do, Castiel moved. It was not much of a movement, just a step in fact. A shift of weight. A fraction of a second where he leaned ever so slightly in Velmoria’s direction. However, it was enough to send a jolt through her entire being. Her nails bit even deeper into her palms, as the space between them, that was already suffocating, became even more unbearable.
The queen’s smile widened, "That works." Then she took the young lady’s hands in her own, "I thank you for coming to my little gathering today. After Velmoria takes the two of you around, you have to come back here to have tea with me."
"Of course, your majesty." Young lady Darvia gave the queen a wide grin.
Velmoria’s blood roared. Realistically, she knew that the queen was not at all interested in the young lady, but jealousy reared its head, and at that moment, she wanted to rip the queen’s hands off of their sockets.
Velmoria couldn’t do this. She needed air. Distance from both of them. She needed to refuse. But she couldn’t, not when the queen had asked for it so directly.
She bowed her head, her voice lower than before, "as you wish, your majesty."
The three of them moved in silence, as they walked deeper into the garden. The only sounds came from the crunch of their boots against the stone pathways, the chirping of birds hidden among the trees, and the fluttering of butterfly wings. The tension was thick, and it coiled around them, feeling tight and painful in Velmoria’s chest.
Velmoria kept her gaze firmly on the path ahead, refusing to let herself look at either of them. She knew what awaited her at the end of the path was rejection, and it was best if she was not looking at them when it happened.
"So," Young lady Darvia was the one to break the silence, her voice light, playful even. "How long have you known my dear Velmoria, Lord Castiel."
Velmoria almost tripped.
She was a lesser demon, one who was never directly addressed by noble demons. Yet, hearing her name on Young Lady Darvia’s lips felt like an arrow had been shot directly to her heart. She wanted to hear it... no needed to hear it again.
Castiel hesitated before responding. "We have only just officially met." It was clear that he did not count them meeting eyes through the doors of the dining areas an official meeting.
Young lady Darvia let out a hum, as her steps quickened, matching Velmoria’s pace. "Yet you two seem to share quite the connection."
"It is clearly not just me and her." Castiel’s voice was low and Velmoria turned to see that his brow was raised as he looked at her.
"Lord Castiel, Young Lady Darvia..." Velmoria clenched her fists, ready to flee at any second.
"Drop the title." Young Lady Darvia interrupted smoothly. "I mean, if we are to be bonded, do you not think we should be on a first name basis? You can call me Nyxara." Then, as if she had come up with an even better idea, she clapped her hands, "No, we have got to be on nickname basis. You can call me Nyx. Or Nyxie. Or do you think Xara sounds better?"
Velmoria had long since stopped listening to her. There it was, the confirmation of their bond, from the young lady’s own lips.
Castiel stopped walking entirely, his fists clenching and unclenching. For a moment, the three of them simple stood there, the garden around them going quiet, still.
Finally, Velmoria forced herself to turn, meeting both their gazes. The young lady’s eyes were smoldering at this point. Velmoria felt weak in the knees. The hunger inside her raged, her body crying out for them both. Crying for her to touch them, even if if for a second.
"I do not understand." Castiel finally spoke, his voice lower now. His was looking at them both, his blue eyes reminiscent of the sky. Perhaps even bluer. He looked at the two of them, his eyes darkening in a way that made the knot in Velmoria’s stomach grow bigger. "This bond, it would not be possible."
"No." Velmoria agreed with him, "It should not."
"And yet..." Young Lady Darvia trailed off, stepping closer to the both of them.
Her scent invaded Velmoria’s nostrils, sweet and warm, like honey. She smelled just as sweet as she looked, and it was unbearable for Velmoria. He smelled like ice,
She wanted to taste her. She wanted to have him.
"We cannot do this." Velmoria took a step back, away from their scents.
"I understand." Castiel nodded his head slowly, as if agreeing with her.
"What are the two of you saying?" Young Lady Darvia took a step towards them.
Velmoria turned to her, "We cannot be together, Young Lady Darvia. It is just not possible. I can mention a lot of things, but for one, think of our difference in ranks."
"This is unfair," Young Lady Darvia’s voice trailed off, as she stepped closer, closing the distance that Velmoria had worked to put between them. "I cannot accept it."
"Young lady..." Velmoria trailed off.
"No." The young demon stepped even closer, lifting her chin slightly, "Do not treat me like a child. I know what this means, to all three of us. I felt it the moment I saw the both of you. We are bound, the three of us."
Velmoria’s throat went dry. How could she deny words that were spoken with such conviction, such surety that they bonded.
