Chapter 85: Warning
Chapter 85: Warning
Nathaniel was planning on leaving this country after a while. That’s why he was open about criticizing Leander. Also, he did not like that his mother is considering Leander as her son too.
He didn’t know how Leander found out about his plans to leave but he knew the reason Leander is bringing it up now.
"I know a very good gynecological surgeon. I’ll arrange everything. Trust me, Capo, I can keep a secret. Please, leave my family out of it," Nathaniel begged, tears streaming down his face.
He knew the risks of getting involved with the mafia family. But he did everything for his family. He cannot lose them. All the mafia family wants are mindless robots who follow orders perfectly. It was his fault to overstep thinking that he can actually leave.
Leander threw Nathaniel over the butcher’s block and stormed out of the room not before giving a meaningful glance at Steve.
Nathaniel winced in pain as the block hit his ribs. At least two of his rib bones must have mild fractures or cracks on them.
But he is alive. That’s better.
"Katerina meets the don often, huh?" Steve walked to Nathaniel after he composed himself.
"She doesn’t know anything. I swear on my father’s grave!" Nathaniel placed his hand on his heart. "And she does not like to report to Barnabas either. He..."
Nathaniel didn’t know if he could speak the truth. His mother works for Leander because she likes him, but Barnabas makes everything harder for every woman who is around him.
"She’s not going to know," Nathaniel added.
Steve was still glaring at him. But Nathaniel could understand one thing.
By no one, Leander means NO ONE should know about her condition. Not even Leander’s family!
He could try to double-cross Leander and snitch on him to Peter, but Peter is a snake. At least Leander has honor and will keep his word. He’d rather be safe being loyal to Leander than to any other member of the Kastello Mafia family.
Arranging for surgery without alerting anyone is a tough thing to do. But what other choice does he have?
-----
Viviana could not fall asleep until Leander returned. "Are you not having dinner?" she asked as he went straight to the bathroom. She did not want to ask him about Nathaniel the first thing. It might annoy him.
He did not look like he tortured or killed a guy but what would she know? He reeked of alcohol earlier although he didn’t look drunk. She thought maybe he would want to take a shower before dinner.
Leander paused. "Do you want to eat?" he asked walking toward her. "You took a lot of painkillers. It would be better if you eat something before sleeping. Get up."
Viviana was beyond surprised. How he so casually tries taking care of her made her heart warm. She was in no mood to eat but she decided to eat just because he asked her to. He helped her with the duvet and even held her hand as she stood up.
As they ate, she couldn’t help but stare at him.
"What?" he asked noticing her stare.
"You’re handsome," she smiled goofily.
She could see the corners of his lips raring to rise up, but in the end, he let his self-control win and stayed stern-faced. "I sent the doctor home after a warning. Isn’t that what you wanted to ask?" he raised his eyebrow.
Viviana couldn’t control her joy, but she pretended to not care.
"No..." she looked at him with her hand on her cheek. "You’re cute, Kastello. I just stated an obvious fact," she said.
He stared at her for a minute as if he was in deep thought. Replying nothing, he started eating dinner. She was not feeling like eating but she finished the small portion on her plate. Eating did make her feel better.
She went to bed and after she settled, he went to the bathroom. She could sleep better, and she fell asleep even before he came to bed. As the pain medications started to wear off, she woke up in pain. She didn’t know how she ended up in his embrace, but his hands were wrapped around her waist, resting on her back.
Did he plan on keeping his hand on my back the whole night?
The lights were down but the outdoor lights fell through the big window. His eyebrows were relaxed, and his facial muscles were relaxed too. His skin was glistening in the dim light. The stubble on his chin cast a shadow giving a mysterious vibe. She’s never seen him this relaxed. He looked more handsome than ever.
He’d look sexier with a beard.
In the middle of the night, as she was woken up by her pain, she started to enjoy the immaculate beauty in front of her, forgetting everything else.
Who would have thought that one day she will share a bed with a man this handsome?
Her soft maiden heart couldn’t help but giggle thinking about that.
But her joy didn’t last long.
She held her breath as a bout of cramps hit her. She tried to get out of his hold without disturbing him, but he woke up with just a little squirm from her. She watched as his magnetic eyes opened. His whites were red because he was sleeping deeply. But with just a couple of blinks, he got alert.
"I’m fine... go to sleep," she patted his arm. "I have to use the bathroom."
"Hmm," he hummed and closed his eyes not before letting go of her.
But before she could get down, he was standing in front of her. He groggily scratched the back of his head and with sleep still in his eyes, he had a boyish charm.
"Do you~ AH!"
Before she finished asking, he bent and picked her up. Viviana hurriedly wrapped her hands around his shoulders. "I can walk," she said. She really can walk. Her legs are not broken.
"Hmm..." he yawned and walked to the bathroom. He placed her down on the toilet. Is he planning to stay here the whole time, she wondered as he stood in front of her yawning.
"Do you need anything else?" he asked as she stared at him.
"No," she shooed him out, blushing out of embarrassment. "Go to bed. I’ll handle it here..."
"Hmm," he nodded and walked out of the bathroom.
What is he doing? Why is he acting this cute?
Viviana rubbed her burning cheeks.
