Chapter 84: Resolution

Leander said nothing back and Viviana continued.

"I don’t want anyone else to die in my place. I’ll do whatever you ask of me. I’ll do everything you want me to do. So, don’t hurt those women who share my appearance. And when your grandfather asks for my life, do it. A bullet between my eyes or a quick slash across my throat...You’ll know it better. Something quick, something sudden. Please..."

Viviana observed his reaction. His eyebrows and lips relaxed. His eyes looked dim, but he did not look angry. She was glad that he understood her. It won’t be hard for him to kill her. He’s used to killing and she will be safe in his hands rather than getting handed over to Peter or Evander.

Leander stared at her blankly. She said she was going to ask for her birthday wish. But she is asking him to kill her.

He didn’t know how to react to that.

After their wedding, the first thing his wife asks of him is to kill her. How many couples in this world start their forever together like this? Is this how much she values their marriage? He got that everything happened without her consent. But must she act like this?

As if, the precious thing that happened between them last night matters nothing to her...

From the day he met her on the ledge, she has been an enigma. That day, she was so filled with hatred, she told him that she will not die in his hands. And today, hiding the same hatred, she is asking him to kill her.

"Why me?" he asked. "You... never mind," he stood up with a sigh. "Okay," he nodded.

"Thank you," Viviana smiled from her heart.

A lot happened in the past few weeks, but for the first time, something goes according to her wish. The destruction she wished on the Kastello family has started. It won’t take long before for them to implode.

She didn’t want to die. But for the first time, death is looming over her. And now she has found a way to avoid the serious offense of suicide and found a way to have an easy death. Who knew? All she needed to do for her to die was to marry a Kastello. It’s as easy as that.

She can be free of the pain she was in from the moment she was born. She can be free, finally.

And no more women will have to die in her place. She will die and that would remove the knife hanging over the other women Kastello is holding hostage without their knowledge.

Leander walkout of the room with a plain expression.

He wanted her to buy something for $90, but she wants to die in his hand.

It is not fair.

He was offended. He was hurt. But he understood.

Pain.

Pain is such a powerful thing. It makes some and breaks some. His pain made him. Her pain broke her. What they have in common is the pain.

Maybe that’s what he saw in her eyes that day when she was on the ledge—the pain concealed behind hatred. Maybe that’s what connected him to her.

That light he saw in her eyes that froze him still... the connection he felt with her... Maybe pain was the common denominator.

He didn’t know what, but he always felt like he had a missing piece of his soul. And when he looked at her standing on that ledge in her white robes, holding in the light he was so desperately searching for... he felt like he found that missing piece of his soul.

And just by her presence, she had made his life bloom with liveliness and light.

Even if they had met in other circumstances, he would have taken her to his home.

This is her—broken, overreacting, a self-flagellating idiot who does not allow herself to be happy.

And he’s not perfect either.

He doesn’t know what that intense protective feeling he gets around her and the reason he does not want others to be closer to her than him. But he knows one thing.

He cannot kill her. And he cannot lose her for any reason.

He had tried and failed. At his age, he knows when to give up. He knows he cannot give her up.

She would have been gone that day if he did not grab her. The moment he grabbed her, she became his responsibility. He hurt his family for her and that made him feel guilty. But now everything has changed.

They say that one can never sacrifice three things in life—their family, their heart, and their dignity.

Her name real or not is written in his family registry. He, with a sincere heart, signed his name beside hers. She is his family. He cannot explain it, but she is his heart’s desire, and the missing part of his soul. She is his dignity. Her problems are his.

There he has the answer.

She is his everything and he will protect her with every fiber of his being from anyone who is a threat!

Yes, that includes his family.

It also includes her stupid self too!

Leander opened the door to the next room not minding Katerina who was still sobbing leaning on the wall. Steve who was leaning on the wall stood straight.

"Nathaniel," he called the guy sitting on the floor.

"Yes," Nathaniel stood up immediately.

"Arrange for the conservative surgery possibly in another country without the knowledge of anyone. You knew how to keep it from me. And you’ll know how to keep it from everybody else," Leander said in a smooth voice.

"You’re letting me leave?" Nathaniel couldn’t believe he is left to live another day.

"You f*cking..." Leander grinded his teeth and clenched Nathaniel by the collar. Nathaniel’s eyes widened and his forehead became wet with perspiration as Leander almost lifted him off the ground. He held Leander’s hands, pleading.

"No..." he shook his head, but Leander got closer to his face. The air became dense because of the threatening aura Leander exuded.

"I love hunting hyenas like you with your little families..." Leander scoffed at his face. "You and your little holes you hide in thinking that you are safe, foraging for scraps left by the lion to feed your young ones... So adorable!" he smirked, and his eyes turned dark as his deep voice echoed in the room as a rumble of thunder. "You should’ve been content eating the scraps and shouldn’t have started thinking out of your sh*thole!" He glared.

Nathaniel’s heart pounded. He realized that Leander is talking about him opining that Leander wanted to be the don and other stuff. His eyes ended up at Steve and he had no expression on his face.

That as*hole complained to his boss!
