Chapter 62: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression
Sitting on the toilet, Viviana slapped herself. She ran to the bathroom as the word "consummation" settled in her brain and locked herself in.
"Wake up! Wake up! You’re trapped in some weird dream! That’s why you think you are married to Leander Kastello!"
But nothing around her changed. Only her face hurt.
Consummation... doing the deed... the devil’s tango... having sex...
The image of a man and a woman wrapped around each other that she once watched in a movie came to her mind.
"Ugh! No! No way I’m doing that.... Not with Kastello!"
She banged her head on the wall.
When will this day end?
In just a day, she learned that some anonymous woman suffered a cruel fate in her place and nineteen other women have death waiting for them just because they share some similarities with her appearance. She was happy for a little while when she was chatting with Lionel but then because of the drama between the brothers, she ended up getting married.
MARRIED!
And now she will have to co-consu-consummate!
F*ck this!
Why should she? She never consented to any of this! She will let Leander know her mind! He cannot use her as he pleases just because she is his prisoner.
Leander stood by the bathroom door biting off his fingernails and spitting them out. He expected her to shout at him and say weird stuff. But she looked at him blankly, stood up, and ran to the bathroom.
She must have been surprised.
He let out a sigh. His mother smiled at him although his grandfather was angry at him. His grandfather punched him in the face for trying to defy his order, but then he hugged him and asked him to give him an heir.
His mother held his cheek and said that she was happy for him, and he should do the family tradition of the wedding night.
How can he refuse his mother? This is the first time she asked him to do something.
And...
He wants to do it too...with the mouse. She no longer is a minion. She is a mouse. Well, she is not a mouse either. She is his wife. Even his family gave them their blessings.
He smiled.
Ever since he saw her naked body, he is going through puberty again. He hates having wet dreams at his age. He wanted to end it by doing it for real. She is his wife, anyway.
But how is he going to convince her?
He stood straight hearing her thumping footsteps reaching the bathroom door. She sounded angry already.
He sighed.
Viviana opened the door. She didn’t want to get angry or raise her voice. She is in the lair of the Kastello family. Leander is the only person who has a smidgen of patience as evidenced by the way he handled the dangerous situation at the dinner. He doesn’t go to war easily if he can avoid one.
She hoped he would listen to her and not resort to force.
Ugh! He will resort to force. But she wanted to convince him.
"I..." she rubbed her neck as she didn’t know how to start. Leander was leaning on the wall folding his hands over his chest in a leisurely manner.
"I cannot sleep with you," she said it bluntly as her eyes met with his.
"Cannot?" he asked.
"I don’t want to sleep with you," she rephrased her words. This is the truth. If he kills her for this, then so be it.
Leander gulped. Her eyes were gloomy. He didn’t know if she was tired or fed up. And her honesty hurt him. Not just his pride as a man. He is considered the "prize" by many women. But she is different.
Her honesty hurt his heart.
"I don’t have a choice in this matter either," he said.
His pride did get hurt a little. And he is not going to be frank with his desires for her. Maybe he is single-minded. All he wanted was to have her. Right now, he sees her as his wife. Other pesky things—truths—didn’t matter to him.
"See..." Viviana was glad Leander was feeling the same way too.
He might be candid, but she knew he is still not over his first love. It can’t be that easy for him to undress his emotions and get into bed with her.
But why did he talk about consummation?
Is he the same as those guys who can have emotionless sex?
"I’m glad we agree. We don’t have to do it!" she said hoping that their conversation is over.
Leander stared at her.
Ah, the happiness in her eyes... Is she that opposed to sleeping with me?
"I said I don’t have a choice. I didn’t say we can skip it," he said.
"Uh?" Viviana didn’t understand.
If both of them didn’t like it, why should they do it? It is something that is traditionally done between closed walls, right? It’s something concerning the two people involved. If both of them are opposed...
She didn’t see the problem there.
"Our family tradition is that the bride and groom must share a bed on their wedding night. I cannot~"
"We were sharing a bed for a long time. We’ll do the same today although the bed here is smaller," she smiled.
She was not going to give in to pressure. She’d rather pretend to be stupid than do what he suggests doing.
Sharing a bed? Heh! As if it is that simple!
She didn’t agree on doing it with someone who is equally uninterested.
Leander snapped seeing that fake smile on her face. Can’t she just speak her mind rather than faking a smile? Is he going to bite her neck off if she speaks her mind?
"Do you think this is funny? Do you know how much I hurt my family today? I cannot skip traditions too. You will have to agree with it this time!" he raised his voice at her.
Viviana’s heart skipped a beat.
...will have to agree...
"What will you do if I don’t agree?" she asked. Her eyes filled with tears. "Are you going to kill Ciara? Or will you r*pe me?"
Her lips trembled. She was fatigued mentally and physically. There is only so much she could take. She is human.
She couldn’t even see his reaction as his eyes clouded. How much more is he going to torture her using that name?
"Look, it’s all so... Why should I get entangled in the fight between brothers? You tried to use me. But you failed. Leave me out of it," she said wiping her tears.
Leander was staring at her blankly.
"Let’s ignore it, Kastello. Why should we do something we don’t like?" she asked.
She can’t do it with Leander. She was scared. Even his fingers hurt.
And how can she do it with a man she doesn’t even like?
And just like that, she went through the first four stages of grief all within an hour.
"Who said I don’t like to do it with you?" Leander hissed in her ear.
