Chapter 63: Acceptance

"Ugh?"

Viviana glared at Leander. With a smirk, Leander leaned closer to her face.

"Who said I don’t want to do it with you?" he asked.

His hot breath made her earlobes tingle. Clutching her hands over her chest, she leaned back.

"Were you a chameleon in your past life? How can you be like this? Then do you want to...Because of your traditions..." she said.

Leander said nothing.

She was clearly not interested. If it is up to him, he will let her go not minding his desires or the stupid traditions of his family that he never heard of before.

But he remembered his mother’s smile. She held him so gently and wished him happiness. She even apologized for prioritizing Evander over him when she should have treated them both the same.

He was exhilarated and that’s why he could bear with this one’s behavior. Otherwise, he would have snapped at her for being so defiant.

Their wedding happened whether it is something they wanted or not. She should be grateful for that. For what she did, she would have been ended up in a ditch sliced to pieces. Married to him is not worse than that.

And to cry just because she does not want to do it with him... is he that terrible? It’s not like he can’t get any woman he wants. Just because he is patient with her, she is getting on his nerves.

Viviana saw the corners of Leander’s lips twitching. His eyes were getting red. He is getting angry.

Tradition...

She realized that must be the reason. He might think that she disrespects his family tradition. Well, she does not care about the traditions of the mafia family.

But...

She is currently in a mafia residence. Leander is not the final authority here. There are other people worse than him in this house.

She cannot do as she pleases just because Leander is silently listening to her for some odd reason. Maybe he does not want to kill his "wife" on their wedding night. Or maybe he does not want the elders to know.

For some reason, he hid her true identity. Now he is stuck with her. That guilt should be hurting him already. That might be the reason he wants to follow the tradition.

He will not take it kindly if she "defies" their tradition.

He is the guy who shoots his man on the face for no apparent reason. She cannot provoke him when she is in the disadvantageous position. Only she will end up getting hurt.

Leander won’t kill her. But he might force her, or he will make her watch as he tortures others. She is not built up to withstand such torture.

So, until she finds a way to get out of this bind, she needs to do what Leander pleases. Because if she loses his favor, she will end up in the hands of Peter or worse Evander.

She didn’t know why she thinks she can change Leander’s mind by talking to him. He is not going to change his mind. For him, she is an enemy. He is not going to listen to her feelings or treat her with respect.

The best thing she could do moving forward is to protect her pride. She cannot show her vulnerability to him.

She took in a deep breath. And calmness returned to her heart.

As an orphan, she had learned one important lesson about life—it’s no use trying to break a stone wall with a spoon. Only the spoon will get damaged. She is the spoon. She’s not even a silver cutlery spoon. She is a thrown-out wooden spoon — useless.

She’s survived her whole life. And when she solemnly searches for death, death is playing hide and seek with her. She will find death one day. Or her way out.

Until then, she will be Leander’s b*tch as he wishes.

"Let’s do it," she said.

Leander looked at her with his eyebrows raised. He didn’t think that she would change her mind so easily. She might still be talking about pretending. He was done pretending. Hiding her identity from the family who loves him is a big burden for him. He will not add to that. "Do what?"

"The..." Viviana took a deep breath. "The consummation thing."

"For real?" Leander was surprised.

"Yeah, for real," Viviana nodded.

"You’re not going to change your mind...midway?" Leander asked just to be sure. He didn’t think that he will be able to stop once he started. His virgin energy cannot be taken lightly after all the sufferings he endured lately.

"No why would I?" Viviana looked at him.

Her eyes were clear, and a subtle smile fluttered on her face. Leander had no reason to believe that she was not meaning what she is saying.

Confirmation bias: the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one’s prior beliefs or values.

He wanted her. And he thought she wants him too. It was his wish.

"That’s great!" he smiled.

It was a smile so wide that Viviana noticed the small dimple near his lips only then. She didn’t know he had dimples. He covered his mouth with the back of his hand and looked at her with his face slightly titled.

Those eyes...

Viviana’s heart skipped a beat. Just like she felt that day on that ledge, she found her serenity getting disturbed. Her heart clenched with pain remembering the one true friend she loved with all her heart.

Leo...

Viviana closed her eyes, and she could hear the crashing waves inside the wet cave. That cave was their spot and where they had many philosophical conversations that their young brain could think of.

The topic of marriage came up once after seeing a wedding in the church.

Viviana who was seven-year-old was intrigued by the beautiful dress the bride wore. Leo... Leona was older than her and she knew a lot better than her. Leona believed in love. She said that love is the most important thing in marriage.

How naïve both of them were!

If Leo knows that she had reduced herself to this, she will kill her herself.

I’m sorry, Leo... I am never the light you saw me as. I am just darkness. I am fated to suffer!

"Shall we..." Leander grabbed her shoulder.

"Yes," Viviana smiled. "Where do we start?"
