Chapter 57: Getting Married to Evander(2)

They say marriage is a sacred institution and it should not be degraded. Father Flannagan told her that marriage is a sacrament, and she should never take it lightly and yet not avoid it either.

But she never prepared her heart for marriage because she didn’t think that she deserved it.

So...

How can she let herself to be bound to a man from the Kastello family; to the man she hates to her very core?

She cannot do that! It’s against her principle!

Viviana tried to get her hand back, but Evander gripped her hand tightly to the point of hurting her.

He smiled.

Viviana’s hair stood on edge seeing her reflection in the evil eyes of Evander.

He surely is not marrying her to share his life with her. He is going to get back at her. He thinks of her as Leander’s woman, and he is going to do unto her what he wants to do to Leander yet can’t. He thinks that it would hurt Leander to see her hurt.

Ah, stupid f*ck! Brain-dead fool! You got the wrong woman! I mean nothing to Leander.

Viviana cussed Evander in her heart.

Peter cleared his throat and watched Leander obediently fill out the form. He was very proud of his youngest grandson. He rightly raised him to be the obedient and loyal man he is. He thought for a moment that he might lose him for a woman. But Leander proves once again he comes from the Kastello stock.

Kastello men don’t mind women. Women come and go. But the pride of the family lives forever.

Leander knows it, unlike Evander. All he knows is to sniff around women’s crotches if he is not sniffing his mother’s. Peter can’t believe that Evander asked to marry Russo’s daughter knowing she is his brother’s woman.

But he said he will concede his position willingly if he marries her. That seemed to be a good compromise for Peter.

Peter was not sure why Evander wants to marry her though. And he didn’t care what he does with her. He probably will do what he did to the women he was with the past few days. It would be better if Russo’s daughter is sent to her father.

That’s the least Evander could do now to help him.

Thankfully Leander is different, and he understood. He was opposed at first. He even said that he doesn’t want to be the next don and so it wouldn’t matter whom he marries. But he has to become the next don.

How can Evander succeed him? He is not even a man anymore!

Peter had to invoke his old age and his illness to move Leander. He has a soft heart when it comes to his family. That’s how he could become who he is now.

And just as Peter expected, Leander understood him as he did with that other girl in the past.

Viviana saw the proud smirk ruling Peter’s face. She scoffed in her heart as she realized freezing with fear is not going to achieve anything.

Who is she? No one. An orphan. There is no one here to help her. For whom is she going to show her vulnerability?

Her eyes ended up on Leander. He was still filling out the form seriously. There were times when he acted kind of nice to her. But can she ask him for help now?

She remembered how he mocked her for her infertility. He probably is the one who gave the idea to his grandfather. Both are infertile and so no harm is done, and still, the family’s pride will be restored. In the future, they will blame her for infertility and finish her off. She will be replaced with another woman.

Leander is not going to help her. She will only get mocked!

And when she thought more about it, she didn’t think it is bad. She can create a scene here and cause shame to the Kastello family. But what will that achieve? She will have a painful death within minutes.

Maybe... just maybe... It’s fate. Maybe, it is fated that Evander should die in her hands before she dies. Maybe that’s what her initial plan should have been. Maybe she was saved to give her a second chance.

She can go through with this and afterward should find a suitable time to finish him off. Maybe she should kill Peter as a bonus. And that woman too. She would love to join her dearest son in death.

As she thought about it that way, she did not feel so sad about it.

"What a lovely surprise!" Lionel’s loud voice turned everyone’s attention towards him. Lionel walked closer to the table they were at with a slow clap. The smirk hanging by the corner of his lips gave Viviana an odd feeling.

"The~"

Lionel pointed at Viviana and was about to say something, but Leander’s hand holding the pen fisted to balls. Lionel noticed Leander not thinking twice about using the pen as a weapon turned away with the same smile ruling his face.

"How romantic! The blushing bride in her pretty...Who cares if the bride does not wear white these days?" Lionel laughed. "What matters is love!"

There were some murmurs among the guests.

"Love? Maybe she knows it is her funeral and wore black on purpose!" Nicholai Palatini chortled. Why would he miss on an opportunity to humiliate the Kastello family?

"Get here, son!"

The powerful voice of Joseph Waldorf that was almost similar to Lionel’s voice made Nicholai’s sneer vanish. Lionel scoffed looking at his father and walked to the music stage to ask them to play music.

Viviana was surprised to see the way Lionel treated his father. And there seems to be some sort of arrangement between the Kastello and the Waldorf family. Otherwise, why would Joseph Waldorf try to stop Lionel from speaking leaving way for others to mock the Kastello family?

Viviana realized that she could gather a lot of info just by being her. It could help her in the future.

"Here," Leander’s deep voice startled her almost. With a slight yelp she looked at Leander who was now standing beside her.

"Sign..." he gestured at the book on the table.

"Yes," Viviana reached for the pen in Leander’s hand.

Leander placed the pen on the book. Viviana could only roll her eyes. He did a lot of stuff to her and now he doesn’t even want her finger to accidentally touch him.

All because I am going to be his brother’s wife.

She picked up the pen and Leander pointed at the spot she needed to sign. The band was playing the song "Can’t help falling in love".

"Come on! Clap, everybody!" Lionel encouraged everyone to clap and stood beside Leander.

Viviana bowed to sign. She held the pen and positioned her hand. All she had to do was write her new name on the spot Leander was pointing at, and then she will be...

MARRIED!!!

She froze. Everything around her went silent and the words in front of her blurred.

No! I cannot marry Evander!

It’s wrong!
