Chapter 56: Getting Married to Evander

Chapter 56: Getting Married to Evander

"Ciara Giovanni, a twenty-year-old college student," Leander whispered in Viviana’s ears, and she looked at him with her eyes wide.

He nodded his head and went to his seat. Viviana’s head hurt hearing the clinking sound of the glass. Right now, Leander just threatened her with a name of a woman, a girl to be precise.

Is she one of the nineteen women?

Viviana pressed her lips and looked around. Her first instinct was the get away from there. But then she assessed the situation clenching her hands.

Viola was glaring at her as she did the whole time, but this time Viviana felt like she would murder her. Evander had a smirk stuck to his pretentious face and she could see that he is hiding his insecurities behind that stuck-up smile.

Leander was usual. With his hands folded over his chest, he stood beside Peter Kastello with his signature scowl on his face. She didn’t know what he was mad about this time. But she had a feeling that his anger was not directed at her. When his eyes met hers, he immediately averted them.

Viviana’s fear was replaced with happiness. It was clear that there is some sort of disagreement between the family members. She knew this will happen. Evander is a weak man. It’s the reason he showed his strength only to those who are weaker than him. He won’t be able to handle losing his manhood. He will implode and will take down his family with him.

It has started... My plan worked!

She sat comfortably in her seat.

Peter was smiling widely. Soon, the entire hall went silent to listen to what Peter had to say. Lionel was standing in the distance. He waved his hand at her with a smile. Viviana nodded. She could sense a lot of glares on her for smiling at Lionel.

She didn’t mind Helena’s, but she was a little worried about Leander’s.

Peter opened his speech with some jokes that made all the men laugh. Nadia Donatello was boring a stare at Viviana. Nadia was wearing a long frock and chunky diamond jewelry that she might have inherited. She glittered and yet she looked at Viviana with jealousy.

Viviana didn’t like that at all. She had no right to look at her like that; not after what she did to her hair.

Fiancée, eh?

Viviana slanted her head so that Nadia could see her beautiful hair. But mainly, she wanted to show Nadia the brooch Leander lent her. She hoped Nadia recognized it as Leander’s. When the child’s eyes filled with tears, Viviana smiled.

What a silly child! It’s not like she is going to marry Leander just because she is wearing his brooch. But she is too petty to realize that.

I’m petty too!

It’s not like she cannot get down to the pettiness level of a teenager. She didn’t want to back then. But today, she felt like it.

Viviana stood up as Peter mentioned her current name.

"She’s such a beauty, isn’t she?" Peter placed his hand on her back and Viviana shivered. She tried to step to the side fearing Peter might do the same thing Evander tried to do. There are more people now.

But Peter placed his hand on her shoulder and hugged her closer. With a smile, she stood with her head bowed trying to not show her true feelings on her face. She so wanted to push Peter away from her and maybe stick a glass in his heart.

But she clenched her jaws and endured it. It was hard for her when there were no names involved. But now, Leander threatened her with a name. For Ciara, she told herself. That girl has her whole life ahead of her. She cannot get into the hands of the Kastello family.

It’s better I’m here. Yeah...

Viviana heard Peter talking about his truly loyal man Georginio Russo—her "father".

"...that’s why..." Peter waved at Evander.

Fixing his suit, Evander stood up and Viviana’s heart almost stopped. Her eyes ended up on Leander unconsciously. Leander looked at her blankly. As their eyes met, he gulped and bowed his head.

Viviana flinched as Peter held her right hand. Not minding her discomfort, Peter gripped it hard and held out his other hand. With a smile, Evander placed his hand over Peter’s.

Viviana couldn’t even swallow as she was shell-shocked. She could see what was going on. But...

Peter placed her hand above Evander’s hand. That was followed by a cheery clap from everyone. Viviana stared at her hand that was sandwiched between the hands of the men she hated the most in this world.

"I’m announcing the marriage of Evander Kastello and Minerva Russo," Peter spoke loudly amidst the sea of claps.

Viviana knew an engagement announcement for Evander will surely follow after his public shaming. The only way to shut up the rumors of Evander’s lost manhood is by tying up a woman with him.

Never in her wildest dreams did she think that she would be that woman.

"The elders say not to postpone a great thing like marriage. The children got to know each other well in the past few weeks and they cannot wait," Peter patted Evander’s back.

Viviana shouldn’t have been surprised but the ability to lie so smoothly always amazes her. Evander was still holding Viviana’s hand while Peter stepped to the side.

"Leander, here..." Peter called Leander.

Viviana cleared her throat. Evander’s hold on her hand tightened as Leander stood to her right. Leander didn’t look at her and opened the thick book in front of Viviana. His sleeves grazed on her arm, and he took a sidestep to avoid touching her.

Viviana could see that it was some kind of record book. The lineage of the Kastello family was written in that book. There was a partition for recording the marriages of the sons of the Kastello family and also the birth and death records of the sons of the Kastello family.

"Today!" Peter shouted in delight. "We are recording the marriage of my eldest grandson!"

Viviana gulped as she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Recording the marriage?

Wait... Am I getting married?

NOW?

Leander turned to the page with the marriage form. That form was different from the government-issued marriage application form. It was written in fancy handwriting. Only the name of the groom and the bride, the date, and the name of the father of the bride as he was "giving" the bride in marriage were the unfilled fields in the form.

In that big book, there were three forms on a page. The last filled form was of Lucius Kastello and Viola. The form before that also had Lucius Kastello as the name of the groom.

There were some murmurs among the crowd as Peter made the announcement. Leander took a comfortable seat and started filling out the form. He first filled in the date and then the name of the bride.

Minerva Russo.

I am Minerva Russo. I am really getting married!

Now!

With Evander Kastello!

Viviana’s head started spinning.
