Chapter 38: True Reason for Her Intense Hate

Chapter 38: True Reason for Her Intense Hate

Viviana stayed in the bedroom after that. A new hairdresser was brought. That middle-aged woman was trembling all through the hair treatment. She almost knelt before Viviana when she hissed lightly because of the knot in her hair.

The fear for life on that woman’s face... Viviana’s heart was crushed to see it.

’A very important person to Leander...’

Viviana scoffed remembering Katerina’s words. Leander had made everyone believe that she is part of his world. And now people are looking at her with fear. She is getting associated with the very people she hates to the core.

He surely is the devil. And now that he knows for sure what crushes her, he is going to attack her using the same tactic.

---

That night, as if nothing had changed, Leander asked her to join him for dinner. She gritted her teeth and joined him. She was not hungry at all, but she was scared that he might punish his kitchen staff if she refused to eat.

"Your hair looks good... better than the orange-colored mess it was before," he said.

She wanted to laugh. That was what the hairdresser said—it could be fixed, and yet, it didn’t stop Leander from ruining his life. And now he’s acting as if nothing went wrong.

She didn’t even know how her hair looked. She didn’t care about her hair after witnessing that scene in the morning.

"Mmhm, I love it," she agreed.

She even smiled for added effect. What if he hurts that poor middle-aged woman for not impressing her?

Leander let out a deep breath of relief. He thought after that fiasco in the morning, she will refuse to talk to him, but she is even smiling at him. He couldn’t contain his joy. She must like her new hair that much if she is smiling. Although, he preferred her original hair.

"The moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?"

After thinking for a whole five minutes about their next conversation topic, he decided to talk to her about the moon. He never cared about the moon, but it did look beautiful today. Kind of like her face.

"Moon?" Viviana looked out the window. "Yes, it is," she smiled. She didn’t understand why they are talking about the moon.

She finally struggled to shove the last bite inside her mouth and washed it down with water. She felt stuffed although she didn’t eat much.

"You..." Leander placed the cutleries on his plate and wiped his hand. "If I..." he cleared his throat.

Maintaining a neutral expression, she looked at him. His eyebrows were furrowed and he rubbed his chin with his fingers in deep thought. He was struggling to look at her.

The room was silent except for the sound of the air conditioner. And the fragrance of food filled the room although they’d finished eating.

Okay... What does he want?

"Were you saving yourself for marriage?" he asked meeting her eyes.

"Wha-" Viviana leaned back as she was taken aback by his question.

As if he realized that it was a very personal question, he averted his eyes. But then he gathered himself and looked at her. He wanted her answer. He wanted to know how angry she would be for what he did.

"Marriage was never on my to-do list," she said. That was the truth.

"Revenge was?" Leander asked.

Viviana scoffed. Leander bit his tongue. He did not mean to bring that up. Stupid! He wanted to hit himself.

She would be feeling bad that the meticulously planned revenge plot had failed. He didn’t intend to mock her or to remind her of the deaths of her friends.

"Yes, for the past two years," Viviana agreed. That was the truth.

"So, before that... What were you doing?" he asked. She still had the same expression. He was glad that his stupid question didn’t sour her good mood.

He wanted to know what her passions were. He had her records. But he doesn’t know what she liked. She never had any dating profiles or social media accounts like others. She mostly kept to herself, and her co-workers didn’t know much about her either.

She despises him, for sure. But he wondered if she is reintroduced to the things she loved in the past, she might smile a lot and not just glare at him.

He also wanted to know why she is terrified of cats. And why she never had any boyfriends all her life.

Does she hate men? Is that why she hates me extra? She didn’t hate that disloyal hairdresser that much...

Viviana was shell-shocked.

That came out of nowhere! Should she have gone and f*cked every man she saw just because she was not planning on marrying or wasn’t planning for revenge? What’s his deal?

Is he trying to remind me that he took me? Is he thinking that it was an achievement of some sort?

"You never went on dates or got asked out...?" he asked. He found talking about her dating life or lack thereof more important than say, her fear of cats.

Viviana choked in anger. Again, he’s on about her dating life!

AH!

It must be about her medical history. And that’s why he is bragging after asking about her "revenge".

"Yeah," she stood up. "I can’t carry a child! So, I didn’t bother to date," she said choking back the flood of emotions rising from the pit of her stomach.

That is the truth. That is the main reason she never got herself involved with a man. She didn’t want to ruin a man’s future and take advantage of his kindness.

And being infertile is one of the biggest wounds in her heart that never healed. She’s 28. If she was like other women, she would at least have one or two children—a family... But... She never will have what she wants the most! Never!

She can never know what motherhood feels like. Whenever she sees pregnant women, she... She will never be them.

Never!

Leander scoffed at her. She nodded at him with a smile before the flood of sorrow she kept locked in the deepest part of her heart burst out.

"I’m tired. I’ll go to bed now," she walked to the bed.

He scoffed! He finds it funny! Ha!

She curled up inside the duvet. She wanted to cry, but she willed herself not to. She will not give him satisfaction.

He wanted to hear her say that to mock her, right? He can take it and laugh all he wants! She’s a dead woman walking anyway. His mockery won’t affect her.

She thought she would die the day Leo died. But she didn’t. But she felt like dying the day she saw the report that she is infertile. But she held on. She willed herself to live for the sake of her parents, and...

What did the Kastello family do?

Leander might not know it and he never will. A lot of lives are depending on that.

The truth is his family caused her infertility too! The fire that killed Leo rendered her infertile. The same f*cking fire! And a similar fire started by the Kastello family took her parents too.

The Kastello family messed with her in many ways.

And she got back at them for everything. Now their heir won’t have an heir!

Laugh all you want, Kastello! You will die without an heir too, not before watching your family end before your eyes! Just like you watched Leo burn! Just like you watched my parents burn!

And I will have the last laugh!

Leander scratched the back of his head not understanding why she looked mad. It was going fine between them. She didn’t have to cut short the conversation by saying something stupid like she cannot carry a child.

Her arms are not that weak. And not everyone comes to this world with every knowledge. She can learn to carry a child!

What a bummer!

He looked at her with a pout.
