Chapter 37: Two Different Worlds(2)
"Heh! Idiot!" Leander snorted. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Where is the hurt woman who was shaking in front of the mirror? What happened to the woman who made his heart squeeze in pain?
Why is she always looking at him with so much hate? Why can’t he hate her back?
"You’re not crying anymore," he gripped her cheeks with his hand that was holding the hammer. The cold wood made a chilling impression on her cheek, but in her eyes, there was a fire.
"And you are talking for this man... Are his fingers that important to you?" he asked. His lips curved to a dangerous smile and his brown eyes turned dark.
His brother’s penis was not important but the fingers of the hairdresser who ruined her hair and made her cry is more important?
This woman!
Why does she anger him so much? And why can’t he still do anything to her?
"His fingers are his livelihood. How will he survive without his~"
"He should have thought about it before touching your hair!" Leander screamed at her face.
His warm breath on her face made her twitch.
Wait... this commotion... All of this is for me...?
Her heart skipped a beat. When was the last time someone defended her to this extent of insanity? Yeah... Leo... Leo would do that for her...
Is he... is Kastello... Does he want to protect me?
Ha! That’s... bullsh*t!
She bowed her head and chuckled.
This guy... He...
He’s found a way to make me suffer! He knows I am not scared to die. So, he is threatening me with other people’s life. He wants to hurt my soul!
What a...!
"I don’t hold him responsible for that. I hold your fiancée responsible!" Viviana pointed at Nadia. Leander’s face twitched in anger. But she didn’t back off.
It’s not like she wanted that immature child to be hurt. Nadia was stupid to do what she did. But Viviana knew Leander won’t hurt his own ilk. That girl is from the Donatello family, and she is going to be his wife. There would be some sort of dealing between their families and he won’t be able to hurt her even if he wanted to.
So, why should he take out his anger on the hairdresser? Why punish the arrow at all if he’s going to let the shooter go? Why?
She thought that he is doing that to make her suffer. Because if he is thinking of protecting her, he would have handled Nadia who is the biggest threat. He just wants to make her suffer.
No, I am not going to have this on my conscience! No way!
Nadia covered her mouth with her hands. Tears streamed down her face, and she started sobbing. Never in her life was she this scared. Leander never showed his scary side to her. But now...
She took out her phone to call someone, but Steve got the phone from her hand.
Leander looked at Viviana pressing his lips. Viviana couldn’t say if he had calmed down or not.
"I can cut my hair. It’ll grow back..." she looked around and picked some tool that resembled a pair of scissors. It probably was a cutting plier. "I’ll cut my hair...and color it back. Nothing is lost. Just let him go..." she maintained eye contact with him.
"Cut your hair," Leander leaned to her face. "I dare you. But for every single strand of your hair, I’ll break one of his bones..."
He pointed the hammer at the hairdresser.
What is this woman talking about now? Whom was the one crying as she looked at herself in the mirror? Now she wants to cut her hair? Like hell, I will let her!
Viviana’s hand trembled. What was she expecting when she started negotiating with the devil? What else would the devil want other than to have her soul crushed?
"Go on... Cut your hair," Leander snorted.
Viviana’s hand trembled. She felt defeated. She didn’t doubt Leander’s challenge. He will do what he says. If she stays and fights, more of that guy’s bones will break and he will die. And if she leaves, he will lose his livelihood.
Why should she decide someone else’s fate? Why is he this cruel to put this on her? She didn’t want any of this!
She didn’t dare to look at the hairdresser. He had been apologizing and pleading with her for some time. She didn’t have the heart to look at him. She dropped the plier on the floor and staggered out of the room.
*Bang*
She heard the hammer fall once more on the block, and the hairdresser shouted in agony. Viviana slid down the wall covering her face and started sobbing.
When will their reign of terror end? How long will these people hurt the oppressed? How long should I watch the suffering of the innocents? I can’t take it anymore.
Katerina helped Viviana up and brought her to the bedroom, following Leander’s order.
There is a reason Leander is getting mad. But she had a feeling that this woman didn’t get it. He did not like to see her cry. That was one of the reasons.
But there is another reason.
Leander is the mafia. He cannot let someone he paid to work for him, get money from another, and go against him. It won’t matter even if it was his wife who asks to change his order. Once someone accepted his payment, they should do what he asked of them with no questions asked.
That’s the rule.
That hairdresser accepted Nadia’s money because he was greedy. If he was scared of the Donatello family, he would have informed Leander immediately after Nadia made such an offer. He was hired by Leander and Leander should have known what Nadia offered him. Then Leander would have dealt with Nadia himself. And the hairdresser would have gone spot-free.
Who knows? Leander would have paid him double for his honesty.
But the hairdresser chose the stupidest path. He chose disloyalty.
He was no more afraid of Leander than he lusted for the Donatello money.
The hairdresser deserves it. He lusted for ten grand, and he lost his livelihood for that.
Sigh!
Katerina sighed at Viviana who was bawling her eyes out.
This woman must have been raised so preciously... She doesn’t know the way of this world... The world of the mafia.
That hairdresser knew the rules when he agreed to accept the payment from Leander. When he got the mafia money he was bound to abide by their rules. And yet he chose to ignore the rules. He is only paying for his stupidity.
Leander took a gun in his hand when he was thirteen. His hand that was raised to shoot his father’s attacker still hasn’t lowered. He’s acting as a shield for his family for more than a decade.
He acts as the shield, but doesn’t he have the right to live too?
If he lowered his hand, or if he even showed a sign of weakness, that moment of weakness will mark his end.
Leander needs to be cruel to survive. This is the path that was chosen for him when his father offered him the gun and asked him to follow him.
Can Leander be blamed for following the rules of his world? How can he be expected to forfeit his life?
