Chapter 36: Two Different Worlds(1)
Viviana was not left in her thoughts for long.
"Get him," Leander said, and a couple of men entered the bedroom and grabbed the hairdresser. "And Steve..." Leander raised his eyebrows at him. Steve grabbed Nadia by her arm stopping her from leaving.
The hairdresser’s chirpy attitude was gone. His glib tongue was replaced with stuttering when Leander walked at him.
"I-it was- I did nothing..." he shook his head, closing his eyes, afraid to look at Leander. "She asked for a complete bleaching and~"
"The truth!" Leander roared.
Viviana clutched her abdomen as she felt like her heart drop there. She was not around violent men much. She avoided them as much as possible. This...was scarier maybe because it was not directed at her.
The hairdresser’s knees went weak, and he almost dropped to the floor. Leander’s men grabbed him by the shoulders and kept him upright.
"It’s... It was she... She offered me ten grand to...I’m sorry... I’m sorry..."
The hairdresser pleaded.
"He’s lying!" Nadia refuted immediately.
Viviana could only see Leander’s back, and so she didn’t know what Nadia saw on Leander’s face, but she started shaking and plopped to the ground.
Viviana was shocked to learn that her hair is priced a whopping ten grand. Not bad, eh!
These rich people value stuff differently. Even her heart or kidney won’t fetch that much in the black market, but these rich f*cks value hair for ten grand.
Hmm...
Leander gestured something and the two men dragged the hairdresser out of the bedroom. Steve dragged Nadia who was crying without making a noise. She was that scared.
Well, she deserves it!
Since the door was open and she didn’t see the devil spawn anywhere, Viviana followed them. The next room was opened. The floor was not marble but a simple tiling. Various tools were displaced on the wall and there were some heavy tables and hooks... lots of hooks. And a butcher’s block...Is that a beheading block with an axe...?
Holy... Is this the torture room?
Viviana’s heart skipped a beat. All this time, she was this close to the torture chamber!
She carefully sneaked back and stood by the door. She wanted to see what was going on in there but didn’t want to be locked in that room.
The hairdresser’s hands were placed on the butcher’s block and Viviana’s heart started pounding. Leander held out his hand and Steve offered him a hammer and a knife. Leander picked the hammer.
The hairdresser’s pleas echoed in the room along with his sobs. Nadia looked scared not for the fate of the hairdresser but because she was not ready to witness a gory scene. She pleaded to let her go. "I’m delicate... My father never allowed me to witness these kinds of scenes... Please..." she begged. But Steve blocked her from leaving and asked her to watch.
"He lied against you," Leander told the kid. "Don’t you want to watch his punishment?"
Nadia gulped and leaned closer to the wall as she had no way to escape. Viviana couldn’t believe what Leander said. He doesn’t believe the hairdresser although it is apparent it was Nadia’s fault.
Leander raised his hammer to hit the finger of the hairdresser. Viviana’s heart pounded. His fingers are his livelihood. How can Leander hurt his livelihood?
"Stop!" she entered the room. She no longer was afraid for herself. "It is obvious that your child bride paid him to do that. How could you~"
"My what?" Leander turned and glared at Viviana. The hammer was still raised above his head, and she could see the nerves on his hands popping out as he was gripping it with strength.
Viviana took a step back. But she gulped and gathered her courage. "Your child-" she cleared her throat. "Your fiancée! She made him do that!" she said in a loud voice.
She didn’t want to die because she loud-mouthed a nasty, rich brat. That was not worth dying for. But she had to speak for the hairdresser.
"Fian-" Leander let out a snort and looked at Nadia.
Nadia leaned on the wall, trembling. She waved her hand gesturing "no".
Leander cocked his head and nodded at the hairdresser who now was almost unconscious out of fear. "Did I not pay you enough?" Leander roared. Leander’s shout echoed in the room and that was followed by the sound of the hammer hitting wood and the ear-numbing scream from the hairdresser.
Viviana was stunned. Her breathing became irregular. She saw a splash of blood on the block.
He did it! He actually hit an innocent man’s finger!
"Hey!" she lunged at Leander gritting her teeth and pushed him. At least, she tried to. But Leander didn’t even move an inch. She didn’t give up and stood in front of Leander. The hammer was raised still, but her eyes were on Leander.
"It’s not about the money, Kastello! He did not accept the money because he wanted it! If he didn’t accept her money, she would have made his life a living hell for not doing what she wanted to do. What other choice did he have? She... is the one in the wrong here and why is he being punished?" she asked pointing at Nadia.
Isn’t that how these rich f*cks work? They offer money and if they didn’t take the offer, they will resolve to violence. How many times has she seen that happen in her life? Too many!
She has seen neighborhoods burning because those rich f*cks wanted those pieces of land for their fancy projects. Those who didn’t accept their measly compensation money would be violently thrashed. She’s seen entire neighborhoods burn and the case would be closed by saying "electrical short circuit" and not the arson it was. She grew up watching these rich f*cks firing people because they looked at them the "wrong" way. And she had so many incidents she recalled from her days of working in the civil affairs bureau.
She understood the hairdresser. What choice did the hairdresser have other than accepting the money and doing what that rich spoiled f*ck asked him to do?
He didn’t have a choice!
