Chapter 353: Brother’s Keeper

Chapter 353: Brother’s Keeper

"Is it about today’s incident?" Viviana asked.

"Yep," Leonardo nodded. He didn’t even look at Viviana for he was looking only at Angelina.

Is she really crying? She doesn’t cry! Why is she crying?

"I’ll come back," Viviana said pointing at Angelina.

Angelina was leaning on Viviana until they reached the guest bedroom. "You can stop pretending now," Viviana said with a smile.

She figured that Angelina was not actually crying but was pretending to be.

"He’s not going to be impressed with a crying woman," she said in a harsh tone.

Viviana had good feelings about Angelina until she pretended to cry. She didn’t want to ignore the blatant red flag just like she did with the other woman Leonardo was with earlier.

She thought Leonardo being Leonardo, would have realized the true character of Allison as he spent a lot of time with her. But he was just another air-headed man in love.

She felt bad for him. He saw what love did to his father and probably wanted that love. Who doesn’t want that one person who belongs just to them? She knew what it was like to yearn for that person. She found her person in Leander. Leonardo thought he found that person in Allison.

Too bad that woman was a snake under the façade she put up as a charitable angel.

Although it is a good quality to trust the people around him, Leonardo should have been more careful in allowing trustworthy people around him.

She got it.

Leonardo wanted to please their father who was eagerly waiting for the day he found happiness. Vito attested to Allison, and although she knew Allison didn’t like her, she didn’t say anything to Leonardo to ruin his happiness. He must have thought that since his family loves her, she is fine.

Viviana decided not to watch from the sidelines anymore. Leonardo is her brother. She should protect him from bad people.

She will be her brother’s keeper.

She also had a selfish reason. If Leonardo ends up marrying a woman who does not like her, then their relationship will go sour. She was not willing to lose her brother. Her daughter should grow up having a close relationship with her uncle and his children.

The woman Leonardo marries is important in a lot of ways.

Money matters not. But the relationship does. She grew up an orphan. She yearned for large families with cousins and uncles and aunts lined up at a long table. She didn’t have it. Her daughter has that chance and she didn’t want that chance to be ruined.

She used a harsh tone with Allison because she knew Angelina was not a common girl. She was strong and had character. If she truly loved Leonardo, she would not let a harsh word from his sister deter her.

"Oh," Angelina stood straight and wiped the corner of her eyes.

"You have not given up on Leonardo," Viviana said. "You’re trying to make him jealous by saying you are looking for marriage."

"What do you think of my plan?" Angelina asked.

She was relaxed and not pulling up any defenses. She opened her purse and took out a strip of chewing gum. "Want some?" she asked Viviana.

"No, thanks," Viviana refused. "What did he tell you when you confessed to him five years back?" she asked.

"That’s... personal," Angelina furrowed her brows. "I thought we got along well. Did I misunderstand?"

"You did not. We were getting along just fine. I loved how you were genuine with my daughter and I like your profile and your intelligence. I can see you are clever. Until... I saw you trying to manipulate my brother." Viviana was open.

She didn’t think playing games would be necessary. They are grown women. Angelina has seen true suffering in various parts of the world while she has suffered true suffering. Viviana felt that Angelina would appreciate openness if she was genuine and not another rich kid with a savior complex.

"Alright," Angelina let out a sigh rubbing her hands. "We need to talk."

"Yes, we should," Viviana nodded. "Tomorrow, brunch in the garden...

"Ah, no, the garden would be... Leonardo wouldn’t let us..." Angelina fiddled with her finger.

"Yeah, he wouldn’t." Viviana agreed. "We can go shopping and...have brunch, lunch..."

Angelina gave the thumbs-up signal. "I greatly appreciate that."

"Great! See you tomorrow," Viviana reached for a hug.

Angelina hugged her back with no hesitation.

"Just don’t try to kill me," Viviana winked.

"K-kill?" Angelina raised her brows. "If you don’t mind me asking, will you tell me what happened today? Uncle was celebrating something. I thought~"

"Leonardo’s girlfriend tried to kill me," Viviana interjected her. She didn’t mind telling Angelina the truth. It would give her a perspective on why she is a little skeptical of her.

"Wha...?" Angelina’s jaws almost dropped to the floor.

"She tied me to the anchor of the yacht and pushed me into the water," Viviana chuckled. "It’s not funny. But... She didn’t want to share the Vitale inheritance with me..."

"But Barnes... she...doesn’t lack wealth," Angelina couldn’t even find the words.

"Yeah, I know. She just doesn’t have a heart to share. We can talk about it tomorrow," Viviana smiled. "Have a good night’s rest. Bernice would be in the room near the kitchen. You can ask her if you... You already know the house. I don’t have to explain anything to you. Dad is treating you like his own."

If anything, Viviana is new to this house. She saw that Angelina had come straight here from the airport. The tags were still on her luggage. She didn’t even visit her family and came right here first. She should love this family very much.

Angelina nodded with a smile. "By the way, the Lion Leander mentioned... By any chance he was talking about Leander Kastello, your husband?" she asked.

Viviana tilted her head. "You know my husband?" she asked.

"We...More than a year ago, we received ten million dollars from an anonymous source. We have this...space our donors can fill out and in there it had this phrase— On behalf of Melanie Filia Dei: The lemon of my life. A month later, we got another ten million donations from the same source and this time the message was— In loving memory of Leander Kastello. You’re missed, dear brother ... Was that him?"

"Lemon?" Viviana bowed her head and chuckled. "It’s him," Viviana couldn’t help her smile.

Angelina smiled seeing her smile. "You must have loved him a lot. I heard what happened to him, I am sorry," she said.

"Oh, I still love him," Viviana waved her head. "But the other message, did it say Leander Kastello?" she asked.

It was weird. If Leander sent the message, why would he send such a message? He must have sent it in memory of his brother Evander Kastello, right?

"No, I am sure of it. Our charity for orphanages didn’t receive much money back then as the government in that country tried to...It’s a long story. But I remember his name well because I googled him and he was alive. It was weird to see a message sent by someone alive as if they were sending it in memory of their brother..."

"He lost his brother Evander then. It must have been a mistake. He..." Viviana shrugged. It’s an odd mistake, but what other explanation could there be other than that?

"Yeah, it makes sense," Angelina nodded.

Viviana could see that Angelina was confused about it as well, but she didn’t want to think about it anymore. He’s a stupid guy! Who knows what he does and why he does it? Stupid! I was almost dead today and he didn’t even bother to call me.

Stupid!
