Chapter 348: Enveloped By Darkness
"You’re gifting her this boat? That’s what you were planning for the past week?" Allison asked Leonardo.
Only then did Viviana realize that her brother was gifting her the boat. But the tone Allison used did not seem right for Viviana and so she observed them.
Leonardo kissed Allison. "I wanted it to be a surprise for her."
"That’s...good..." Allison said and she sounded disappointed.
Viviana pulled Leonardo. "You didn’t happen to forget her birthday or any anniversary, right?" she asked.
Her brother hasn’t dated anyone before. She wondered if he had forgotten something important and maybe that was the reason Allison sounded disappointed.
"No. I set reminders for everything. Why do you ask?" Leonardo asked. He seemed to have not noticed the change in Allison’s tone of voice.
Men!
Allison was staring at her and Viviana let go of Leonardo. "You should surprise your girlfriend more," she said. It appeared that Allison did not like that Leonardo was surprising her. She can’t be worrying about the cost, right? She’s the heir to millions. She might be a little possessive of her boyfriend.
It’s not bad... right?
Leonardo shrugged and ran to Allison. Allison hooked her arms with Leonardo’s arm and turned to look at her. The hair on Viviana’s neck stood straight. It was a creepy smile.
"Whoa, what was that?" Danielle joined her.
"Nos sure," Viviana said. If Danielle saw it too, she was not being paranoid. She decided to stay away from Allison and Leonardo for a while.
"Come on! Break the bottle!" Leonardo called her.
Viviana walked to the boat, broke the bottle. Leonardo opened a nice bottle of wine as they set sail. Having a tall glass of wine in hand, Viviana took a look at the boat. Viviana looked for Gabriella but she and Lionel were out of sight. Allison and Leonardo were getting handsy and it made her stomach churn. Daniella was the only other free woman on the boat and Viviana stuck with her.
It can’t be called a boat. It was a small apartment with two bedrooms. Viviana looked at the appliances and the interior designs and could see that Leonardo must have spent at least a million on the boat. He didn’t have to spend money on her to show his love, but Viviana was glad he bothered to do that for her.
They had a small crew and the boat went to the middle of the sea. Daniella got the best wines and stayed on the bed drinking. Viviana sat beside her reading and occasionally drinking. She was a little tipsy but not drunk.
Through the small window, she saw Lionel talking to Gabriella. Gabriella used to avoid talking to Lionel in the past, but lately, she’s talking to Lionel like in their past. The more their designer label got popular, the more Gabriella gained confidence. She has started forgiving herself for her past. She has started to feel that she could allow herself to think of a future with the only man she loved.
"Uh! Why can’t they just get into bed and stop being an eyesore! Ugh! Get married and get out of my sight, losers!" Danielle shouted through the window seeing Lionel and Gabriella.
Viviana laughed. The room is soundproof and there is no way they would have heard Danielle. "Maybe all you need is a husband too, Danielle," she joked.
"I’ll throat a cactus than getting married," Danielle belched.
"Are you okay?" Viviana patted her back while laughing. Danielle is so consistent in this. Maybe some women are better without a marriage.
As expected, Danielle fell asleep after getting drunk. Viviana decided to take a peek outside. She didn’t see Lionel and Gabriella anywhere and standing on the deck, she looked at the vast sea. She would never get tired of the view.
She saw some disturbance at the distance. It must be some big fish. Around this time, great whites roam in the sea. Looking at the fin, it looked like a great white shark. Usually, they won’t attack boats and Viviana was not worried.
The chef saw her out and brought a platter of snacks for her. While he was on his way, Allison got the platter and walked to Viviana. Viviana could hear Leonardo speaking to someone on the phone.
"Hi," she smiled and got the platter from Allison. She placed it on the table nearby.
Allison was casual. She was wearing a chiffon kaftan over her bikini. She had a nice body, tanned skin, and lively eyes. All her jewelry were branded and she smelled good too. It showed that she grew up with money.
"This is a nice boat," Allison smiled. "You must be happy."
"I am," Viviana nodded. "Although I think he bought it just so he can sneak you here..." She winked.
Since Allison seemed to be jealous, she wanted to make her feel a bit better.
But Allison didn’t like what she said. "No," she said bluntly and looked away. "He told me that this is the first and last time I’d be here. He bought it for you and you alone...And for your kid."
Allison sounded so bitter; Viviana didn’t say anything else. She was used to Allison’s bitter tone. She didn’t want to make a scene and cause unhappiness to her brother. He was truly in love.
"I heard you found your father only recently?" Allison asked.
"Leonardo told you?" Viviana asked. She could sense what Allison was coming at. She was no fool. So, she tried to stop Allison from going there by talking about Leonardo.
"Oh, he doesn’t talk about your past. You come up in all his future plans though."
"He is filled with love," Viviana said. She was happy Leonardo saw her in his future.
"And he could be taken advantage of for that reason," Allison replied in a low voice.
Viviana felt a prick in her heart. Is she talking about me?
"Your daughter should be the luckiest girl in the world," Allison said. "To be pampered by both Vito and Leonardo... Where is her father?" she asked.
Viviana took a deep breath. "He’s..."
"Ah, he left you, didn’t he?" Allison interjected her.
Viviana felt a pinch in her heart. "No, he’ll~"
"He left you and you are clinging to Vito and Leonardo using your daughter," Allison scoffed and bowed to fix her shoes.
Viviana fisted her hands. Till now, Allison never openly spoke in that way although her attitude showed her thinking. Now that she has spilled out her thoughts, Viviana decided not to be polite either.
"You should be careful with your words, Allison," she said. "Words have consequences."
Allison scoffed. "What? You are going to tell on me?"
"I’m not a child to tell on you. What is bothering you, Allison? Let’s talk like adults," Viviana tried to be a pacifist. This woman is her brother’s girlfriend. She didn’t want to cause heartbreak to her brother.
Allison scoffed. "You know what? If you want to know... I hate you. I hate your daughter too. I know you are grifting just to survive and put food on your daughter’s plate~"
"Allison!" Viviana raised her voice. "Mind your words!"
Viviana wanted to clutch her hair and give her a couple of slaps but she controlled herself. How can she talk about her daughter like that?
"Or what?" Allison rolled her eyes. "Does it hit a nerve when I call you a grifter?"
"What’s with you, Allison? You are the sole heir of a wealthy family. Why do you care about me?" Viviana asked.
It appeared that Allison was under the impression that she was with the Vitale family only for the money. It’s a misunderstanding that could be easily cleared if they talked. But she didn’t think that Allison wants to talk.
"Why? I wouldn’t mind it if my boyfriend and my future father-in-law threw occasional millions on you. But they are planning on splitting the inheritance with my boyfriend and YOU!!! You do not deserve the Vitale inheritance!"
"Oh, wow!" Viviana could only laugh.
She didn’t even know what her father was planning. She let her father know that she doesn’t need any inheritance from him. It’s not her fault if he didn’t listen to her.
And why does it bother Allison so much?
"Even if that was the case, why does it bother you? Aren’t you rich?" Viviana asked.
"You are mocking me, aren’t you?" Allison took a step forward.
Viviana was already leaning on the railing and she raised her hands defensively.
Something is not right!
"Heh!" Allison scoffed and Viviana saw the murderous malice in her eyes. "You won’t for long... Bye, grifter!"
She waved her hand.
Viviana stood straight, trying to get out of there.
Allison laughed. "What’s the hurry," she laughed and pulled a rope she had on the floor.
Before Viviana could realize what it was, she felt something tightening around her leg and the next moment she slipped and fell out of the boat.
"Leo!!!" she screamed. His name was the first thing that came out of her mouth.
The next thing she saw was Allison’s smirking face looking at her. Viviana saw the anchor getting lowered and the rope that was tightened around her ankle had somehow tangled with the anchor’s chain.
Oh, f*ck!
Viviana’s back hit the surface of the water and it hurt like hell. With the anchor pulling her down, she tried to undo the knot. If she got free from the rope...
She started to sink as her efforts to swim up were futile. The anchor was pulling her down and the rope wasn’t loosening.
Ah...
Viviana’s chest hurt from holding her breath. She knew she couldn’t hold on much longer. In her heart, she said St. Michael’s prayer. That’s all she could think of.
Help me, please... someone...
Her fingers became numb and the pain in her chest became unbearable. She saw the surface of the sea getting farther away from her like the distant moon. Darkness surrounded her.
The last breath of air she was trying to hold in escaped her nose. Slowly she sank into the abyss, getting in and out of her consciousness as her chest burned. She saw a big dark fish approaching her.
Am I finished? Is this it? Am I going to be shark food?
That was the last thing she remembered thinking. After that, everything became dark and she lost her consciousness.
