Chapter 331: His Arrival

Chapter 331: His Arrival

Viviana looked at Giovanni for answers. She was not going to believe what a cop says. Giovanni’s drooped eyes didn’t give her any solace.

Her mind went blank.

"If you are feeling better, we ask you to identify~"

"He’s not dead!" she snapped at the cop. "You might have thought you~"

"Signora," the lawyer held her hand and Viviana stopped.

She cannot run her mouth like this to the cops. But are they telling her the truth? Did Leander really...

"We have the dental records and DNA sample. We know for sure that the body we recovered was Leander Kastello. We also need to ask you some questions if you’re up for it..." the cop added.

Viviana bowed her head and looked at her hand. She remembered he blaze that devoured the house. There was smoke everywhere.

Charred, they say?

How did a brick house with marble flooring catch fire and burn that long? There was an explosion. Who caused that explosion?

Viviana still was hopeful. She didn’t want to believe that Leander was dead. He cannot be. How could he leave her half-way? He promised that he wouldn’t die. He promised. He wouldn’t have broken his promise.

Right? Right?

Viviana tried to tell her brain that it’s all not what it seems like.

He did tell her that he was going to break her heart. Did he talk about faking his death? Yeah, that must be it.

All she has to do is to get out of here. Then he will appear, with those magnetic eyes filled with love and a blooming smile on his face. He will mock her for not trusting him while wiping away her tears and kiss her.

Yeah, he’s not dead. It must be a plot he devised. He must have planned for this. Everything is going according to his plan. I should not believe what others say. I should trust him.

"Where..." she couldn’t speak as her emotions were crushing her throat. She couldn’t even see the men in front of her as tears flowed down her cheeks, as her rationality broke her faith in Leander.

He too is a human. She saw how terrifying the fire was. There was an explosion.

"Steve... Where is Steve?" she asked.

Steve was her last hope. He was checking the time and if he survived, then that means he’ll know what happened to Leander.

"Signora, let’s not talk about Steve. We should get you out of here. How are you feeling?" Giovanni tried to change the topic.

The cop answered her. "If you are asking about George Stefano, he’s under custody~"

"We are leaving," Giovanni stood up. "We’ll take care of her health at home."

Viviana didn’t find anything right. But she followed her lawyer out. The doctors didn’t "permit" her to leave the hospital and tried to stop her from shouting behind her. Viviana could sense that something was wrong.

"Stay close, Signora. It might turn ugly," Giovanni covered her and placed his hand on his waist.

Viviana knew that gesture very well. The lawyer is carrying. She didn’t know what was going on.

As they turned a corner in the hallway, the mean cop wearing the leather jacket blocked them.

"You cannot leave, Mrs. Kastello. You have a charge filed against you for conspiring to~"

"We’ve got a bail. Step aside!" Giovanni interjected the mean cop.

Without answering the lawyer, the cop pulled out a gun on them. The nurses and the hospital staff around there scattered away seeing the tense situation. Giovanni pushed her behind him.

"This is not legal, Madison. You’re crossing the limits."

"Limits?" the mean cop sneered. "I have the badge. I don’t have limits. I can shoot her down like a pig she is and no one would miss her. I know of few who would arrange a celebratory party to mark her death, though!"

Viviana’s heart started to race. Was he paid to kill me?

She didn’t want to die. "Where is Ziya?"

"Who?" the lawyer asked her, clearly annoyed by her questioning at the wrong time.

"Our baby," she explained. She was conveniently hidden behind the lawyer, she couldn’t see the cop.

"Your baby?" the cop sneered at her and tried to have a look at her. "Your husband and you kidnapped a baby, stealing it from her mother. She’ll never be yours! What makes you think she’s yours to take? Slithering bottom feeders of the society thinks she’d be a good mother! Heh!"

So, he’s paid by the Palatini family, or by Helena.

Viviana pressed her lips. She turned her attention toward the fire and Helena must have taken the baby with her. Is Martha safe in that case?

"Of course, no one can live up to the name of the upstanding Palatini family. The people of Chesterville would attest to them," Viviana replied with a snarky scoff.

She even thought that he might be a good cop. But he was just a thug sent by the Palatini family. She didn’t want to be afraid of him anymore.

Is the Palatini family any better than the Kastello family. The chemical spillage in Chesterville due to the negligence of the Palatini family took the life of almost two hundred people. And they do everything else the Kastello family does. Why should she bear the name of a bottom feeder by someone who gets paid by that family?

"You dare to..."

Madison, the mean cop pushed the lawyer aside and lunged at her with his hand raised. He pushed her to the wall and pressed his gun to her cheek.

"Say that again!" he hissed on her face.

"You have bad breath, Madison!" Viviana scoffed.

"You think I won’t kill you right now?" Madison shouted for it to echo in the empty hallways.

Viviana looked to the side. Giovanni had pointed his gun at the mean cop but his hands were shaking. Killing a cop would bring a whole lot of trouble and maybe he was trying to avoid that.

"Let her go, Madison. If it is money you want, I~"

"I want her life, Giovanni. I want the life of Leander Kastello’s wife. It’s personal..." Madison pressed his gun on Viviana’s forehead. "It’s payback for my Anita..."

Oh, well! My dear husband had earned an enemy in the police force.

Viviana sighed. She had a feeling that she was going to die. She didn’t like that. She looked around for ways to escape. She noticed Giovanni trying hard to shoot at the cop’s leg possibly to create a distraction but then a familiar voice rang from the other end of the hallway.

"Ah, my timing is perfect!"

Giovanni lowered his gun and let out a sigh of relief. Viviana couldn’t turn her head but she saw the panic on Madison’s face. His eyes widened with fear and his hand started to shake.

"Why did you stop? Shoot her! Come on!"

He spoke.

"I’ll see if you have it in you. Come on... I’m eagerly waiting here..."
