Chapter 323: Unwanted Guest
Days passed. Viviana didn’t know what Leander was doing. Sometimes he would be too busy to answer phone calls and other times he would just talk to her non-stop.
She asked him if she can visit him but his answer was a firm no. She decided to give in to his wishes for now.
She was checking the news closely. They were not mentioning the commission investigating the Kastello family these days. She thought Leander had it all under control.
Lionel was busy doing the finishing touches and casting for his new movie that was based on Viviana’s story.
Viviana wondered if that story getting out now would cause any trouble for Leander. She talked to Leander about it and he didn’t bother about it. He told her that it would take a least a couple of years before the movie would be out and everything would have changed by then.
How? Viviana didn’t know. But Leander was not the least bit concerned over the film and she decided to leave it.
Well, she did not leave it as it was. She tried contacting Lionel but he had his phone switched off. Apparently, it was Lionel’s habit to turn off all his connections to the world once he starts on a movie. Gabriella told her.
Gabriella also told her that she will pass her concerns to Lionel when he texts her.
Viviana sighed. Apparently, Lionel’s connection to the "world" does not include Gabriella. Who is she then? A part of himself, maybe? He wouldn’t have stopped talking to himself while he was keeping away from the "world", would he? Why would he stop talking to Gabriella?
Viviana was not jealous of Gabriella. Not at all. She was just mad at Leander for ignoring her. He said he’d call her and it’s been more than two days since she last talked to him.
She looked around. The lemon tree was growing splendidly. The garden she planted was growing well. Her puppies were healthy and above all, Ziya was doing great. She smiles a lot in her sleep.
She was told that babies smile in their sleep because they see angels. She wondered if Ziya sees Leona. Leona would be watching over her.
Closing her eyes, she looked up.
I’m happy, Leona... I hope you know that...
-----
Leander sneezed.
"Someone must be thinking about you deeply, Capo," Steve said.
Leander smiled, "What a silly superstition..."
But if the superstition is true, there is only one person who would think of him deep enough to make him sneeze.
I should call her today...
------
Viviana took a walk in the evening. She still was not allowed to take a walk outside. She was not happy with the restriction but she understood why and so she bore with it.
She heard a commotion in the distance. She handed over the baby to Martha and walked to the gate to have a peek.
Nick, the gate security came running to her. "Signora... this woman, she... She says she wants to speak with you," he said looking behind him at the gate. He looked tired.
"Who is it?" Viviana asked and took a peek.
It was Helena’s mother.
"Should I let her in?" Nick asked as Viviana recognized that woman. "She’s been acting rowdy for some time..."
"No," Viviana said immediately. "I’m taking a walk outside." She will not let Helena’s mother inside her house without knowing what her intentions were.
"Martha, bring the baby inside and stay by her side," she asked Martha.
She had a feeling Helena’s mother might be here for the baby. She was not going to give up the baby.
Martha nodded. "But Signora, you cannot go outside alone. It could be a trap and Capo won’t let us go if ... God forbid if anything happened to..." she gulped.
"I’ll stay right in front of the house. I am not letting her in," Viviana said and walked to the gate.
Martha looked at Luca and he asked some armed men to guard Viviana.
Viviana’s heart pounded as she walked toward Tabitha. She remembered Tabitha calling her names when they last met and she was under the impression that Leander owed something to Helena.
She didn’t want to fight. But if Tabitha started a fight, she was willing to go low. She was not going to give up the baby.
"Hello, Tabitha?" she smiled.
It could be a friendly meeting. She didn’t want to put the cart before the horse and start a fight when Helena’s mother came in peace. She wanted to check first.
"Hmm..." Tabitha pressed her lips and looked at Viviana from top to bottom.
Viviana only then remembered the detail she decided not to think about—this woman is my mother. This woman gave birth to me. Not just that, she threw me away because I was weak.
Huh...
She searched for her emotions. She couldn’t feel anything for Tabitha. She was worried that she might lose Ziya but she had no feelings toward Tabitha. She heard that the bond between a mother and a child cannot be unsevered as it is sacred.
It was odd her heart didn’t move for Tabitha the way it moved for Vito.
Maybe she cannot forgive Tabitha for throwing her away. Maybe she could never see her as her mother.
Mother... That word only reminded her of her mother. Yeah, she was my mother and she is dead. This woman is not my mother. She’s Helena’s mother.
The gate closed behind Viviana only to make Tabitha jolt. Her attention left Viviana and she dashed to the door. "You are not inviting me in?" She tried to sneak in but four men stepped out blocking Helena.
’Let’s take a walk," Viviana smiled.
"Do you know who I am?" Tabitha asked.
Leander threatened her to not get anywhere near his wife. Vito’s men have been following her around and he sent a message not to even look in the direction of "his daughter".
Heh! His daughter. She is not his only daughter.
She was not happy about the phrasing but she thought that the truth was out and that was the reason. But maybe they are "protecting" this cretin.
Seriously, how strong is her lifeline? She was not even half the size of Helena when they were born and look at her now... Look at the life she has... Helena should be the one living like this, not her!
"You are Tabitha, Mrs. Palatini’s mother," Viviana managed to keep her calm. "We’ve met before, haven’t we, Mrs. Bruno?"
Viviana could see the hatred dancing on Tabitha’s face. She appreciated it. If Tabitha was here trying to repair the damaged relationship between them, it would have put her in a spot. This is fine.
"You don’t know?" Tabitha furrowed her brows.
Viviana bit her lips. "Why did you want to meet me, Mrs. Bruno?" she asked. "The last time we met, you were not impressed with me. Do you need any help?" she asked.
Viviana couldn’t digest the conceit and disgust on Tabitha’s face. She didn’t want to interact with her at all. But she wanted to know what made her come here to meet her.
"Help?" Tabitha scoffed. "Why would I ask YOU for any help? I’ve not gotten that low... yet..." She looked at the gate once again. "Let me in!"
Tabitha walked to the gate. Viviana grabbed her by the arm. "I’m not going to let you inside my house, Tabitha. State the reason for your visit before I lose my patience," she said in a low voice. She was annoyed.
Tabitha looked at Viviana’s hand holding her arm and scoffed. "You’ve grown, haven’t you? The Kastello money had plumped you up and you dare to treat ME this way. Do you not know who I am?"
"Should I know you?" Viviana asked letting go of her arm. She was not raised to raise a hand on an old woman whoever it might be.
Tabitha pressed her lips and her face twitched in anger. "I should have finished you off myself!" she gritted her teeth. "Still don’t know?" Tabitha raised her voice.
Viviana folded her hands over her chest. The hatred on Tabitha’s face... It was disgusting. Which mother hates her child this much? How could she hate her blood this much?
"I’m your mother!" Tabitha shouted. "I am the woman who birthed you!"
