Chapter 322: [Bonus Chapter] Something’s Not Right

"What? No! Why?" Viviana didn’t find his suggestion right.

She sat up out of shock.

"What are you..." Leander pulled her to lie on the bed and hugged her to his chest. "I was just asking... I am not telling you to go live with Vito."

"I am not going anywhere. I am your wife and I am staying with you," Viviana held his shoulder. "Leo... You’re scaring me a lot these days. What is in your heart? Will you please tell me?" she asked.

Leander patted her back and kissed her forehead. "Silly, I am not hiding anything. Just go to sleep."

Viviana silently lay beside him. She couldn’t figure it out but something nagged her.

"Vito wanted to talk to you about Leonardo," he said.

Viviana hummed. She didn’t realize that. She almost forgot about that guy when she saw her father. "I should have told him that I am not mad at him anymore..."

"You’re not mad?" Leander raised his voice. "That’s a surprise."

"I thought about it... In the end, Leonardo did that thinking that he was protecting me... Juno’s dead but at least her puppies are well... I can forgive him," she said.

"My sweet little hypocrite," Leander kissed her.

"What’s hypocritic about it? In the end, a human being is more important than a dog..."

"Yeah, especially if it is your brother..."

"Leander..." Viviana pouted. She didn’t have anything to say as a retort. He is right that she’s a hypocrite. But what else can she do? He’s family.

"How is your grandfather doing?" she asked.

"Not so good,’ Leander said and gently rubbed her back. "You don’t want him to die anymore?" he asked.

"What can I say? I am a hypocrite," she said. "I do not want to see you getting hurt."

Leander smiled. She doesn’t realize he orchestrated everything. She has changed her mind and started to see his family as hers. But now he has changed his mind.

Will you forgive me, Melanie? I will try my best to stay alive. But if I didn’t... will you forgive me?

He hugged her close.

Viviana waited to see if he would open up. But he didn’t. She was so tired and she fell asleep in his embrace.

In the morning when she woke up, Leander was already up. He was on the balcony doing his morning workout. Stretching herself, she walked to him. She never tires of watching him workout. She still is awed that she managed to make such a testosterone-oozing lion fall for her. She was proud of herself in that regard.

"Are you okay with toast for breakfast?" she asked.

Leander hummed.

"What do you want for lunch?" she asked. He was here and she was excited to cook for him.

"Prepare what you want. I won’t be here for lunch," he said and Viviana’s heart skipped a beat.

"Are you leaving already?" she asked. Her heart sank as she felt like something was not right. "Am I going with you?"

She didn’t want to stay alone like she was living separately from him. They are married. They should live together.

"Melanie," Leander looked at her pausing his pushups. His biceps were protruding as he cocked his head to look up at her. His lips were pressed and his eyes looked tired.

"I was just kidding," she smiled.

She didn’t want to burden him. He had made a decision and her tears won’t change his mind. It would only make his heart sad. The best she can do is pretend she was unaffected.

"I’ll check up on Ziya. Poor baby would think that I abandoned her," she turned and left the room.

She was sad but she didn’t let it get her. She went to check on the baby. She decided to prepare something special for breakfast if he was not going to be here for lunch.

Leander watched her leave and sighed. He was not supposed to be here. He came here just to save her from herself when he heard about Vito’s visit. She is fine and now he will have to leave. He has a lot to take care of.

Will you hold on without me, Melanie? Please hold on...

He didn’t feel like working out anymore and decided to take a shower.

Viviana picked up Ziya who was awake. She was sucking her thumb and Martha came back from the kitchen with a bottle. "Thanks, Martha. I’ll feed her," Viviana got the bottle.

Martha stood by her side and Viviana started feeding the baby. Even before half the bottle was finished, the whole house shook with Leander’s shout. Even the baby was frightened by the shout and stopped latching.

"MELANIE!!!"

Viviana looked at Martha pitifully. Martha got the baby and the bottle with a smile. Viviana excused herself.

She smiled hearing the shower running in the bathroom. That guy had forgotten to even close the door. She stepped inside the bathroom.

"What do you need?" she asked.

The water dripping on his bronze skin was a sight to behold. She would sit comfortably in a chair and watch him shower for all eternity.

"The soap. There is no soap in here," he said.

"My soap is there... Next to the shampoo is your soap..." she pointed.

"I cannot see it!" he said washing his hair. "And the loofah is not working."

Viviana locked the bathroom door. She knew what he wants. Can he make it more obvious? Slipping out of her clothes, she stepped inside the shower enclosure.

"Why are you naked? Are you trying to seduce me?" he asked turning to face her.

"No, I didn’t want to get wet. Here... your soap," she handed over the soap to him. He is not the only one who can pretend.

Just as she turned to leave, he held her wrist. "Where are you going?"

Viviana looked at him and he started laughing. "Come on, wash my back..."

Viviana did what he asked of her. The shower was still running. With one hand on the wall, he was facing the wall. Viviana could only see his back as he had his head bowed.

"I have arranged a meeting," he said.

"What meeting?" Viviana asked.

He didn’t answer.

Viviana pressed her lips. Suddenly, he turned and faced her.

"I am not leaving you alone, Melanie..." he held her cheek.

Viviana nodded. She didn’t want to interrupt him if he wanted to talk.

"If I... If something wrong happens... You’ll never be alone, Melanie..." he said and kissed her forehead.

"Leo," he held his hand. "Tell me what bothers you, love," she asked in a begging tone. "I am not strong as you or smart as you but I will help you in any way I can. I can help reduce your burden. Do you not trust me?"

Leander shook his head and wiped the tears off her cheek. "No, Melanie... Nothing’s bothering me. It’s just... Be strong, all right? You are strong. That baby only has you. Your dogs need you. You’ve found your father and you have a business. Do not ever feel alone or abandoned. You are not...."

Viviana bowed her head and tears rolled down her cheeks.

Something is not right!

During breakfast, Leander was jovial. He had a good meal. Viviana helped him with his suit. As he was about to leave, she brought the baby with her. She needed to make Leander form a connection with the baby.

"She looks just like me, don’t you think?" she pressed the baby’s cheek to hers and smiled. "She looks at me too much and ended up like me... Isn’t it adorable?"

She didn’t care of he thought of her as stupid for thinking a baby’s face changes just by looking at someone. But she wanted to give Leander a leeway to accept the baby.

The baby did look like her.

"Bye, love," Leander kissed Viviana. Pressing his forehead on hers, he took in a deep breath. His eyes were closed and his lips were trembling. "I love you."

"Love you too, Leo," Viviana kissed him back. "Here, kiss the baby too..."

She pushed the baby to his face. Having no other way, he kissed the baby’s cheek.

"Awww... look at her smile! She likes your kiss..." Viviana was surprised to see the bright smile on the baby’s face.

Leander stared at the baby. "She has a pretty smile," he said. It was unbelievably cute.

He stared at the baby for some time before turning his attention toward Viviana.

"Stay safe, Melanie... I’ll call you," he said and turned to leave.

Viviana hugged his back tightly. "I’ll be waiting, Leo... I want to be with you all the time..."

Leander patted her hand and walked with a large gait.

Looking at his leaving back, Viviana told a prayer in her heart.

Protect him, God... Please... He’s all I have...
