Chapter 309: She is Different
"Later," Viviana stood on her tiptoes and kissed Leander on the cheek.
Leander was stunned. He pulled her closer and kissed her lips. What made her think that a kiss on his cheek would be enough?
"Love you," she said.
With a smile, he watched as she ran to get the baby.
"I’ll kill you and that dirty bitch! You are a traitor to the family!" Peter shouted. He couldn’t believe Leander managed to pull wool over his eyes. He made him believe that he was over his wife and that was why he went brazen. Also, he heard from reputable sources that Vito Vitale was not pleased with his son’s obsession with Leander’s wife and was pissed.
He thought he would get away even if Leander was sad to lose his wife. But Leander knew all along and protected her.
Leander pressed his lips. He couldn’t even be allowed to admire his wife for a few seconds in this house. What a bother!
He walked to his grandfather. "What did I lie about?" he asked blowing on the muzzle of his gun.
Peter gritted his teeth. "Are you going to kill me?" Peter asked. "Do it then. I need this death for trusting a snake like you!"
Leander laughed.
"Why are you laughing? Pull the trigger!" Peter shouted.
He did not want to live anymore. Barnabas is dead. He thought Leander was handling the investigations from the commission but he didn’t have any hopes now. The Kastello family’s reign is ending right in front of his eyes. He would die before it all falls to the ground.
"You think my bullet is going to take you?" Leander asked. "I’m not that heartless, Grandpa. I truly loved you..." Leander shook his head.
"Is that why you gave refuge to that demon-eyed girl in your room? Is she the witness for the commission? She sure is a demon to~"
"You really think that it was all about her, huh, Grandpa? Nothing else you did comes to your mind... just on the top of your head... Come on, think..." Leander asked.
He wanted to see if his grandfather was willing to accept that he killed his mother. His grandfather could get offended that he betrayed him. But does he have the introspection that he did something terrible to him?
"My only sin was to trust you," Peter scoffed. "I thought you loved me. But you..."
Leander scoffed. So, his grandfather will make it tough.
"Speaking of her... Do you remember her?" Leander asked.
Peter didn’t answer him and looked away. He looked annoyed with everything.
"I remember," he said.
Peter’s eyes widened as he looked at Leander. "I don’t care... Just tell me what you want. What are you planning on doing by turning my men against me?"
Peter tried to change the subject.
"I remember her, Grandpa. She used to be my friend. And oddly, I remember wearing a girl’s uniform and my name was Leona," Leander clenched his jaws.
Leander noticed Peter trying to control his shock. "What nonsense are you spouting? Are you on drugs? Did that gold digger start you on drugs? Is that why you~"
"I know my mother’s name was Victoria," Leander said. "I was named Leona by her and in the Abenney fire, one of your grandsons died. Leander Kastello is dead, isn’t he, Grandpa?" Leander asked.
He still couldn’t believe that his grandfather would do such a cruel thing to his family. He thought that someone else must be responsible and that maybe his grandfather just hid the crime to protect them. He seriously suspected Barnabas.
But seeing how clean-cut the plan to take out his wife was Leander knew. He knew his grandfather must have been the one who wanted to take out his mother too.
And now... he regretted ever having the Kastello name. He does not deserve it. He only has it because his half-brother died. His grandfather wouldn’t have accepted him if not for the fact that his brother died in the fire.
Otherwise... would he have eliminated him too just to keep his crime a secret? He thought his grandfather was capable of that.
In the end, the one he thought was his mother was not his mother. Even the name he lived with to his memory was not his. He has nothing. He deserves nothing.
Yeah, nothing.
But he didn’t have the heart to bring everything down. He was the one who protected it all for ages. How can he destroy something he protected?
But he has to do it. The Kastello family should be exposed. He could only imagine what his grandfather did to other families if he was that cruel to his own family.
He has a plan and for that, he will have to break Melanie’s heart; once again.
"Victoria?"
Leander turned to his side to see Viola out of the room. She was holding her chest. Tears were streaming down her eyes.
"Did you really love my father?" he asked Viola. "Is that why you couldn’t bear to see me? You told my wife that the baby would remind her of her husband’s infidelity. Is that what you felt whenever you looked at me?"
He understood her. He pitied her too. She too was a victim of his grandfather.
"Love?" Viola scoffed.
Leander saw her face turning menacing as rage and hatred from her heart bubbled out.
"I hated him with my everything. You are so much like him. The impersonator of my son!" she hit her abdomen. Tears rolled down her eyes and yet her face was horrid with hatred.
"I wanted to kill you with my bare hands and see the light of your eyes go out!"
Leander nodded. So, this is what she felt.
"I’m sorry you had to pretend to be my mother... It must have been hard," he said. "Just like it was hard for me not knowing why my mother hated me..."
Placing his hand on his chest, he bowed his head. He thought of Viviana. His lips curved to a handsome smile.
She could love another woman’s child as hers. Her heart is filled with so much love that she could love that baby as an extension of her love for him. "There is no one like her..."
"There is no one like her," Viola scoffed. "I can’t imagine how she managed to wrap the heirs of great families in her little finger. Which Madame trained her? I wish I knew how to~"
"Another important thing," Leander raised his voice. He didn’t want to hear that woman talk bad about his wife over and over again.
"You know she is not Russo’s daughter. She grew up as an orphan. She is Vitale’s daughter and that makes Leonardo her brother. I do not want you people to spread that rumor again. I bet Vito wouldn’t be pleased about it," he said placing his gun in the holster.
"She is Vito Vitale’s daughter?" Peter stood up.
"Yes. He got back at Evander because he humiliated her. And now, you tried to kill her. So, good luck with Vito Vitale," Leander said with a smile.
Peter fell on the floor. His chest hurt so badly. He is finished. How did he get on the wrong side of Vitale family.
’Why did you... I treated you so well, why did you... ungrateful imp..." Peter held his chest.
"I hope you don’t die of a heart attack," Leander said. "Just like you burned my mother, just like you tried to burn her, just like you burned countless little kids... They were innocent and..." his voice shook. "I hope you die knowing what it feels to be burned to death!"
Leander turned and walked to the room Viviana went in. "Call for an ambulance," he shouted.
"Steve, get the car. We are leaving."
