Chapter 310: What His Mother Wanted For Him

Holding the baby, Viviana sat silently in the car. Rubbing his lips, Leander was in deep thought. She wanted to know what happened to Peter but she didn’t want to disturb him.

She stared through the window. The car was moving slowly and Viviana noticed that they are now stopping at red lights.

That was a first! The first time she was in this car, she remembered them flying past every red light without any struggle.

Viviana let out a deep breath. It appeared that the situation for the Kastello family was not good. She didn’t know what Leander was going to do when he inherited these many troubles for the family.

"Lemon," Leander asked leaning on her shoulder. "I thought you would name the baby after your friend- Leona," he said.

"No, that thought never crossed my mind," Viviana said.

She stopped talking about Leona altogether and she didn’t know why Leander brought her up again. Maybe he got reminded of her as she talked about her.

"You want to know why I named her Ignazia?" She asked.

"Hmm..." Leander hummed.

"You know I lost a lot of those who loved by fire. Ignazia means "fire", right? I’m scared of fire. I just... It’s this unexplainable fear, right? But, looking at her..." She stared at the baby and her lips curved up.

"I think I can get over that fear. I cannot let the fearsome fire take over my life anymore. And you know what they say—fight fire with fire... Little Ignazia is going to be the fire that drives out the remnants of the fearsome fire from my heart. I’m not going to be scared of fire anymore. I’m going to love this little bundle of fire."

Viviana kissed the baby. After having her fill, she had fallen asleep.

"And, we are going to call her "Ziya". What do you think?" she asked as Leander was leaning on her shoulder staring at the baby.

"What?" she asked.

"Nothing," Leander said dryly.

After everything they’ve been through, this little being is the one helping her get out of her past trauma. Then, what was his purpose? Is he a decorative piece of furniture in her life?

"Why do you like this baby so much?" he asked unable to contain his jealousy. If he could he would leave this baby elsewhere where his wife won’t find it. But she got so attached to the baby it would definitely hurt her.

"I don’t know...." Viviana stared at the baby. "There’s a... pull I feel toward her..." Viviana took in a deep breath. "I never understood what Father Patrick felt when he held me for the first time till now... It must be a similar feeling. Even if I am not connected to Ziya by blood, I just feel this connection..."

Leander hummed.

Maybe that was it. The blood connection. Technically this baby is her nephew, her sister’s child. Maybe blood is thicker than water.

Leander leaned on her shoulder. He thought she would complain after a while but she didn’t. She was holding both of them on her.

She cannot help but love. Love bears all things, the good book says and love endures all things.

I am so glad I found her...My Jophiel.

Thinking of his past made his mood sour. He took in a deep breath.

"Hey, Melanie... What did Leona’s mother want her child to be when he grows up?"

Viviana’s heart skipped a beat. "Why are you bringing up Leona out of nowhere? And Leona was a girl. What’s with the wrong pronoun?" she asked.

Leander let out a deep breath and rubbed her arm. "Are you scared to talk about Leona?"

"You don’t like it when I talk about Leona. Why are you bringing her up now?" Viviana asked. She couldn’t understand him.

"I’m sorry," he buried his face in her arm. "I made you feel this way..."

Viviana was shocked. Is Leander really apologizing to her? And even if he was apologizing, why was he apologizing for this? He should be apologizing for making her cry all this time.

When she saw him acting pitifully, she swallowed all her questions and gently rocked him.

"She was weird... Leona’s mother. Leona had ambitions. She wanted to be on the top and be able to afford anything she wanted. But her mother was different. Her mother believed that tall trees gets axed down first and asked Leona to be more prudent. It was weird... Leona was good at studies but her mother was scared of it rather than happy... "

"What did she want?" Leander asked.

"She wanted Leona to be someone earning enough but live with her head low, not in anyone’s eyes..." Viviana said.

Leona’s mother protected Leona a little too much. She was controlling. She didn’t understand it then. But having this little baby in her hand, she understood.

Wouldn’t she go to any lengths to protect the baby? Maybe that’s what Leona’s mother tried to do too.

"Lay low, huh..." Leander mumbled.

It’s odd his mother wanted that. While his father gave a gun to his hand and asked him to kill those who hurt his family.

Who loved him the best? What should he do in the future?

He couldn’t figure it out.

"Leander, are you okay?" Viviana asked.

They were already on the Neolith bridge and they’d be home pretty soon.

Leander raised his head and looked at her. "I am fine," he smiled. "And... don’t call me Leander..." he added and buried his face in her arm once more.

Viviana blinked her eyes.

What has gotten into him?

Leander was silent for the rest of the time. They reached the Orchid Gardens. The entire debris was cleaned up but the place still was not repaired.

Just as she was about to open the door, Leander held her hand. "Pack your bags. You will stay in Lemon Heights for some time," he said. "You’ll be leaving tonight."

"What?" Viviana shouted. " No way!" she hugged around his neck. "It’s been a while Leander. Don’t send me away now. I want to be embraced by you...After my period stops we can do it..."

She didn’t think this was right. Maybe her life was in danger here. But his life is constantly in danger. She didn’t want to leave him alone.

Leander laughed. "How cute!"

"Don’t laugh. I am serious," she said.

"Listen to me. I’ll have to fix the house. The dust and the~"

"I don’t care. I’m not leaving." Viviana was sure.

Leander sighed. "I was not asking for your permission, Lemon. I am informing you."

Speaking with a low tone, Leander alighted from the car. With a bang, he closed the car door. Viviana got down from the car holding the baby.

"Cruel man!" she shouted behind him.

"I am going to break your heart, Melanie," Leander said.

"Not this again..." Viviana fisted her hand.
