Chapter 305: Everything
Leander saw Barnabas by the door. He sighed internally. He expected someone would be watching them. The smile on Barnabas’ face, however...
"Not all going well with the missus, huh," Barnabas grinned. In the curve of his lips, Leander saw ill intent. He hoped Barnabas wouldn’t do what he thinks he will do.
If he did, this would be the date engraved on Barnabas’ grave.
As Leander passed Barnabas, he patted Leander’s shoulder. "Don’t worry. I’ll teach her to be obedient."
Leander turned to look at Viviana. Holding the heavy bag and the baby, she was stumbling her way in. There was already a layer of perspiration on her face.
What a woman! She is meant to not work and sit in an air-conditioned room the whole day. Why is she even...
He turned and waited for her. He will not let Barnabas misbehave with her right under his nose. He cannot sink that low for his plans.
Barnabas stepped out and held out his hands. "I’ll carry that bag for you, darling," he said.
Leander glared at Barnabas. If looks could kill Barnabas would be a pile of ashes on the floor by now.
Viviana saw Barnabas first thing and she clenched her jaws. Of all the people in this house, should she be meeting him first?
"No, thanks," Viviana walked around him leaving a large distance between them. She didn’t find his eyes right. He looked like a scoundrel and she feared what he might do.
Barnabas was not impressed by Viviana. "Come on, darling," he placed his hand on her shoulder.
Viviana winced as her skin crawled. Leander fisted his hands. Steve froze on the spot. He didn’t want to catch the bullet Leander sends for Barnabas.
But something unexpected happened that astonished everyone.
"Don’t touch me with your dirty claws, d*ckhead! What part of I do not want your help did you not understand?" Viviana said. Well, she was not talking but shouting. She spoke those unladylike words without even batting an eye as if she grew up speaking such crude words.
Even Leander was surprised. He relaxed his fists and walked to her. He had to swallow his smile. It’s good that she listened to him.
He got between her and Barnabas and patted his shoulder. "She’s gone too rogue... Don’t mind her..."
Viviana looked at him with a pout. He was the one who asked her not to stand any mistreatment. So, why is he...
Is he playing a game?
Leander couldn’t keep his stoic look in front of her and let out a smile. She scoffed at Leander and walked past him.
If he wants to play a game, she will comply. It’s not like she doesn’t know how to act.
Barnabas scoffed coming out of his shock. "Nothing a bit of belt wouldn’t fix."
Leander nodded sincerely. "I should take my belt off more often..."
It’s been a while since he slept with her to his heart’s content. He should embrace her till his heart gets satisfied once her period ends.
Viviana was met by Viola who tried to be indifferent but she couldn’t keep her eyes off the baby. Viviana thought that even Viola couldn’t get out of the urge to see one’s grandchild. Maybe she has at least a speck of love for Leander deep inside her heart.
Oh, how great it would be if Leander and his mother could bond with the help of this little angel!
She was brought to the office on the first floor. Peter was in his office. The housekeeper mentioned that Peter was not expecting them as this was a surprise visit.
Viviana didn’t mind.
Looking at her, Peter smiled. Viviana never felt like Peter’s smile was genuine. Maybe that was her bias. She felt that way now too. But when he looked at the baby, his entire demeanor changed.
Leander entered the room just then. Viviana stepped aside and Leander kissed his grandfather’s ring.
"You’ve been through a lot, son," Peter patted Leander’s cheek with his shaking hand.
Leander grabbed Peter’s hands and smiled.
Oddly, she couldn’t see the sincerity in Leander’s eyes either. Usually, he would look at his grandfather with stars in his eyes. This time, Leander’s eyes lacked even basic affection.
What is the matter...? No way... Was the attack on Leander... Is Peter responsible for it?
No, that can’t be. Why would Peter hurt his only surviving grandson?
"Ever since that jinx stepped inside our house, everything we touch is turning to shit," Viola grumbled from behind her.
Viviana could only roll her eyes. She didn’t even want to respond.
After awkwardly standing there for some time, they were all asked to join them for dinner. Viviana did not want to part with the baby but when the housekeeper asked, she couldn’t refuse. She did have to join the dinner.
As they walked to the dining room, Viviana felt a creepy feeling on her back. It was as if something was hovering over her back. Although she couldn’t see, she could feel.
And then...
"Sit beside me, darling."
Viviana heard Barnabas close to her neck and he placed his hand on her lower back. Viviana was creeped out. She didn’t know what got to her. She was so irked by his touch. She turned and, in that flow, slapped Barnabas’ cheek.
"Stop touching me! Don’t expect me to take it silently. I’m not some fourteen-year-old lame girl!" she shouted.
The housekeeper who was bringing the baby away stopped, the staff in the dining room all stood frozen, and one maid who was holding the water jug dropped it.
"How dare you!" Peter shouted with all his might.
Barnabas held his cheek with shock apparent on his face.
"Yeah, and you are not a wealthy young Vitale stallion either. She has taste, you know," Viola scoffed.
"What did you say?" Viviana stepped forward. Did she just accuse me the same way Helena did?
Viviana was stopped by the pull of her hair. Holding her hair, she turned to her side. "Leander, I..." she gulped.
He looked ragingly mad. Even in his rage, he was not pulling on her hair hard. He was holding her hair, that’s it.
"You really needed to be taught a lesson," he said.
Viviana heard his belt buckles unbuckling. Letting go of her hair, he pulled out his belt from the loops. Viviana’s heart skipped a beat.
Is this part of a performance? I do not like to be hit with a belt. It will hurt.
Peter scoffed and walked to the table. Barnabas smirked. Viola took a step back.
Why isn’t she laughing?
Viviana looked at Leander. Only then she realized that the object of Leander’s rage was not her, but Viola.
*Swip*
His leather belt made a lashing sound in the air and the next moment, Viola fell on the floor writhing in pain. Viviana saw a pink patch on Viola’s arm.
Viviana held Leander back. What Viola said is unacceptable. But Leander cannot hit his mother.
"Leave your mother be, Leander," she whispered.
Leander was not listening to her. He raised his hand again.
"Stop!" Peter shouted. "Stop this monstrosity, Leander. What did Viola say wrong?"
Leander scoffed.
"Everything, Grandpa... Everything..." Leander said.
He lowered his hand, but his chest was heaving. He looked terrible, like an incarnation of the god of death himself. Viviana held his arm.
She felt like something bad was going to happen.
"Take your baby and go inside the room," Leander told Viviana.
Viviana shook her head. She didn’t want to leave Leander here. She thought he was hurting badly. He was raging because he was hurt. She wanted to calm him down. Rage is not good.
"Go!" Leander shouted at her face.
Viviana winced. He looked terrible she feared he might hurt her if she stays. Steve stepped forward. Having no other way, Viviana walked out of the room.
"Her baby?" Viola scoffed. "I don’t know if I should pity her or laugh at her for being forced to look after her husband’s child with another woman. To be reminded of her husband’s infidelity each time she looks at the child... Heh!" she scoffed.
Viviana stopped.
