Chapter 283: The Hard Way
Viviana waited for more than two hours for Leander to return. He never did. She tried calling him. But he didn’t answer her calls. Fearing that she might disturb him while was driving, she stopped calling him.
She cried the entire night and as the dawn approached, she was filled with anger.
What did she do wrong? Why is she the one crying? If he thinks that she’s gotten tiresome, maybe, she should just leave! Who’s going to stop her?
She walked to the closet to pack the bare necessities quickly and leave. As she looked at the closet, she realized she owns nothing there. Everything belongs to Leander, even the clothes on her back.
She has nothing. She does not have anywhere to go. She doesn’t even have an ID. She literally cannot survive outside.
It angered her more as she realized that she was living a useless life. Was he even wrong? She is tiresome! A useless fool worth nothing!
She didn’t want to stay there any longer. It is better she does not have an ID. It would make it easier for her to disappear. She survived this long. She would survive somehow.
It was a moment of blind faith. She didn’t want to be in the house anymore. What does she have there for her to stay? No one wants her. No one needs her. No one appreciates her.
She has no one. That’s the only constant all her life. Even Father Patrick is gone now. She truly had no one left. No one loves her. No one.
It doesn’t matter if she loves them. No one loves her back. So why should she care?
She didn’t take anything, not even her phone. She didn’t want to take anything that didn’t belong to her. She almost reached the driveway, driven by her rage.
The staff in the house avoided looking at her. She was looking like sh*t and they tried to give her the privacy. No one could have guessed yet that she was planning on leaving. They were thinking that she was going to take a walk in the garden or play with the puppies as usual.
Just as she stepped out, her puppies came running to her wagging their tails. Sniffing her feet, they circled around her.
It was then it hit her.
She is not leaving without taking anything. She was taking a lot. A lot of memories she made in this house; all the memories she has with him!
With Leander.
Her legs became weak and she slumped on the floor. What was she about to do?
All the good memories flooded her. His beautiful smile, his promises, his kisses... She was about to leave him! How could she have lost her brain like that?
Leaving is easy. Staying through bad times is hard. She will not take the easy road.
There must be a reason he changed. Maybe it is her fault or maybe external factors are involved. Or it could be that the reason is pretty simple—he lost interest in her.
Whatever the case was, she decided to see what Leander would do next.
Will he talk to her? Will he throw her away? Or was it just a phase and it will get better?
She won’t know if she does not stay, will she?
Seeing her on the ground, Katerina Viviana walked back upstairs.
It broke her heart to see the one person who loved her knowing all her insecurities and weaknesses called her "tiresome". It tore her inside out.
But she decided to try and understand him. If he was annoyed by her voice and tears, she decided to wait until he reaches out to her.
And maybe if he was indeed tired of her, then...
She decided to cross that bridge when it comes to that.
She cleaned herself up, changed and cooked breakfast as usual. Leander returned just as she finished cooking. She waiting for him near the stairs.
He entered the house and his eyes ended up on her first thing. His shirt was crinkled as if he slept somewhere uncomfortable. He had prominent dark circles around his eyes. It was obvious he didn’t have a good night’s sleep.
"Breakfast is ready," she said.
He averted his eyes and walked upstairs. Viviana sighed deeply. It appeared that his mood hasn’t changed even if he left home for an entire night.
Her head was splitting with headache having cried for an entire night. She ate breakfast and took pain pills to handle the pain.
She thought about it for some time. But she couldn’t even think. She went to the bedroom. She heard Leander in the closet. Not minding him, she plopped on the bed and fell asleep. She was too tired.
When she woke up, it was lunchtime. She stretched herself and a little sleep did give her some clarity. Katerina knocked on the door. She asked Katerina where Leander was. She told her that Leander has locked himself in his office.
Viviana walked to the office. Even now, only she had the guts to knock on his office door with impunity.
He didn’t open the door for a long time. But maybe her constant knocking drove him insane, he opened the door. She couldn’t even see his face as he only opened the door for just a few inches.
"You’re not going to eat lunch?" she asked.
Leander didn’t answer her. She saw the door closing and without thinking twice, she stopped the door with her foot. She was not even wearing slippers and the force he used to close the door almost broke her bones. It hurt terribly. She almost fainted.
But she clenched her jaws and bared with it.
"Don’t show your anger on food," she said looking at him. Seeing his eyes that were disturbed, she gained some confidence. He must be feeling bad for hurting her.
She couldn’t control her smile. How can she control herself? He’s shown her a part of his usual self.
Leander scoffed and tried to close the door. She slipped her foot inside again. It was already hurting so badly and she had a feeling that Leander won’t hurt her again.
Just as she thought he managed to stop himself.
"I won’t join you. So, go eat. You didn’t eat breakfast either. You cannot stay hungry in your house," she told him and took a step back to let him go.
She worried for him.
He stared at her for some time. She saw anger in his eyes. But he went downstairs. She limped her way to the stairs to listen to what happened downstairs. She heard Martha plating the meal for him and he was eating.
She limped her way back to bed. She checked her feet. The skin had peeled on the side of her feet and it was bleeding slightly. It was not a very big wound. There were no swelling and so no bones were broken. She was too tired to get the first aid box.
She went back to sleep.
After some time, she felt something crawling on her feet and opened her eyes.
