Chapter 282: Tiresome
"So what?" Leander pulled her into a hug.
"You are unbelievable!" Viviana raised her brows.
Who was the guy who pushes her away every time she spends time with the dogs?
Leander’s phone rang. It was on the dining table and Viviana tried to get it as it was closer to her. But Leander pulled her back to get the phone. He read the notification and his expression changed. Placing his phone in his pocket, he walked upstairs.
"I’m going out for dinner," he said without even looking at her.
"Is it a business meeting?" Viviana asked.
There was no reply.
"Don’t get drunk," she said knowing he won’t reply to her.
She bit her lips and followed the distant back of the tall man with her eyes. He’s been going out for dinner a lot these days. And he is receiving a lot of texts that change his mood. He even changed the password to his phone. She couldn’t access his phone like in the past.
She didn’t mind that until now. But after hearing what Luca said, could there be some...
Viviana shook her head. She did not want to go that route. She will not ruin her happiness by thinking unnecessarily.
That night, she didn’t feel like eating much. She texted Leander to ask him when he will return but he didn’t answer her. She went to bed. As she was working a lot these days, she fell asleep almost immediately.
In the middle of the night, she opened her eyes feeling the bed sinking behind her. The scent of alcohol overpowered her senses, she almost retched.
She wanted to cry. She couldn’t figure out what prompted these sudden changes in him. He never was this guy. He still does not hurt her in any way. He smiles at her the same. He makes love to her the same.
Well, not the same. He’s started to wear condoms these days. She thought that he does not want her to get pregnant so soon after the miscarriage. She was not pleased with it. But she accepted it. In a way, it showed her how much he cared for her.
But what if there is more? What if there are other reasons?
Did he got bored of her and thinks of her as a burden? Of course, she won’t blame him for thinking that way. She would appreciate it if he openly tells her what he feels.
What if he talked to her about it? What will she do if he asks her to leave this house and him so that he can have a regular life with a regular woman who can give him heirs?
Or is it regarding her paternity? Is the Vitale family demanding him to do something that he does not like? Is he being threatened or blackmailed? Is he hurting himself for her sake?
Or is he blaming her for what Leonardo did?
Her mind sparked off with various thoughts. Without knowing, tears dripped from the corners of her eyes. He didn’t know how to handle this.
He is not the guy who would talk to her even if she asks. He will do whatever he wants to do. What can she do? Whom can she ask for help?
She felt like a kite with its string cut off. Hopelessly abandoned and drifting alone in the wind. She should be used to feeling this way. But it hurts each time.
How can Leander abandon her? How can he of all people?
She wanted to wail out loud. But she didn’t want to alert him. He would feel sad.
Yeah, this all could be nothing. She must be overthinking as always. If he knows that she is doubting him, it would break his heart. So she will not do that.
She tried to control her tears. She managed to succeed as she remembered all the good times they shared. He will never abandon her. He knows how much he means to her.
She almost fell asleep when she felt him rolling closer to her. Her heart clenched. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him. She felt his lips on her hair. She smiled.
Yeah, nothing has changed. I should stop worrying.
Her lips curved up and she rolled to rest on his arm. She leaned to his face to kiss him.
"Shit!" he cussed. "What’s..." he shook his hand. "Were you crying? Your pillow is wet," he hissed. His breath saturated with alcohol fell on her face and she almost retched.
"It’s nothing," she said. She sat up as she felt his hold on her loosening. "Is something wrong, Leander?" she asked.
"With me?" he scoffed. "Nothing’s wrong with me. Did you find something wrong with me?"
Viviana couldn’t understand why his voice was so dry. Even if he got drunk, he never talks to her this way. "Of course, not. That’s not what I meant. I wanted to ask you if you are displeased with me about something. You’re acting distant from me."
"Am I?" he scoffed. "It’s all my fault."
"That is not what I meant, Leander. I am not blaming you. I just want to know what~"
Leander clicked his tongue. "You’re f*cking tiresome, Minerva, Viviana, Melanie... or whomever you are..." he scoffed. Wearing his shirt, he walked out of the bedroom banging the door shut.
Viviana couldn’t believe what had happened. She followed him to see where he was going in the middle of the night. He was walking down the stairs with his car keys.
Hearing the noise, Katerina came out of her room. She was stunned to see Leander leaving the house angrily and Viviana running down the stairs with tears flowing down her face.
The distance between them has only widened! Katerina could only sigh.
Viviana didn’t want to cause a scene and ran to the bedroom. Plopping on the bed, she cried until she had no tears to spare.
Tiresome... He said I am tiresome...
