Chapter 256: Her Place
Chapter 256: Her Place
Vito Vitale woke up from his anesthesia. The doctors immediately sprung to action and checked all his vitals. They told him that it would take a while to see whether his body has accepted the kidney or not.
Some of his men were inside to protect him. He can’t even go for a surgery peacefully.
"Where’s Andrea? What’s the news?" Vito asked. He’s been out for an entire evening and night. He needed to handle his business.
There is no rest for the wicked!
Andrea Luciano, the consigliere of the Vitale family was waiting outside.
"What happened to that woman?" he asked the doctor as Andrea dragged his legs inside the room. Vito could sense that Andrea brings bad news.
"She lives," the doctor said.
Vito waved his hands and the doctor went out after nodding at Andrea. The other men left too.
"I thought she was not going to live..." Andrea locked the door. "Can I smoke in here?" he took out his pack of cigarette’s out. "I don’t think I can..." He placed it back inside noticing the oxygen tank inside the room.
"You look terrible, Don," Andrea said and sat at the foot of the bed.
"Throw her out and put a tail on her," Vito said.
He was planning on taking both of her kidneys as payback for leaving his flesh and blood abandoned. But then he thought about it. What if his daughter wants to know her mother? She won’t be pleased to learn that her father killed her mother.
Until he forms a good relationship with his daughter and learns of her thoughts, he decided to leave Tabitha alive. There are many dangling pianos where Tabitha will walk, and surely there are many drunk drivers. Tabitha will surely get crushed under a piano or under car tires.
"You look worse," Vito quipped.
"Leo drugged Ignazio, brought in Evander Kastello, filmed him getting sodomized, sawed off his limbs while he was alive, and airdropped his body parts on the terrace of Peter Kastello’s house. He recorded everything and posted it on the dark web. Peter Kastello is enraged and bereaved," Andrea came forth with the truth.
He didn’t want to be so blunt considering that the don is just out of major surgery, but there is no other choice left. Even their "friends" won’t like what they did to a member of a prominent family in the South.
It’s one thing if they touched the women of those families. It was to instill fear. But to chop up a man and throw his carcass in a garbage bag for his grandfather to see is ...beyond terrible.
What can they do when their heir is uncontrollable?
Vito let out a deep sigh. He wanted to have the upper hand when he talks to Peter about his daughter and the atrocities she had to endure at Peter’s hands. His son is so...
But he will not get angry at his son for that. He can’t get angry at his dear son.
"He could have consulted me..." Vito let out a deep breath. "Call him."
Andrea was surprised Leonardo answered the call. "Don wants to talk to you," he said and placed the phone by Vito’s ear. He thought Leonardo would have ended the call as he usually does, but surprisingly he didn’t.
He knows he went too far.
Andrea sighed. But before he could release his breath fully, what Vito said made his heart jump.
"Attend the funeral of Evander Kastello," Vito said. "You will take no responsibility for killing him."
Andrea could hear Leonardo shouting at the other end of the call. He understood Leonardo’s anger. He cannot walk into enemy territory so openly. And it is utterly humiliating for him if he doesn’t claim his kill.
"Do you not want to talk to your sister or visit her?" Vito asked.
Leonardo did not calm down. "She doesn’t have to live with the Kastello family. She has better~"
"Shut up," Vito said. He was not shouting but his tone implied he required subservience from his son. Leonardo did shut up. "She is married, and her place is with her husband. Now, do what I say," Vito passed the phone back to Andrea.
"Leo?" Andrea called as the other side was silent.
"What’s wrong with Dad?" Leonardo asked. "He doesn’t sound right. Is he sick?"
"No, he just woke up and he had to hear what you~"
As Andrea was speaking, the call ended. Andrea looked at Vito.
"He’ll be here," Vito mumbled.
His son would not listen to him. If he thinks he is sick, he will leave everything and will be by his side immediately. He loves him too much.
"Send that woman away before Leo reaches here. I do not want him to kill her too," Vito Vitale said. Andrea left the room with a nod.
-----
Leander got the tray from Katerina. "She’s fine. Control yourself," he said.
The whole house is looking like a funeral house. Well, maybe it is...
His grandfather was devastated. He has a duty to be there. But he also has a duty to be by his wife’s side when she is suffering.
What should he do?
Leander closed the door and walked in. "Lemon, wake up," he gently patted her shoulder. "Eat something and go back to sleep."
It’s almost brunch time and he still hasn’t woken up. Even if she does not feel hungry, she needs to eat something.
"Leander... it hurts so much...’" Viviana opened her eyes.
Although the pain she felt earlier as if she was hacked in the middle has reduced, it still was hurting.
"It’s okay, come on. Get up and eat," Leander said and helped her up.
He started eating after she finished eating. He paused as he felt her warm hand on his cheek.
"You’re sad," Viviana said rubbing his cheek. "What is it?"
"Do I look sad?" Leander asked. He tried to hide his emotions from her but it appears that he failed.
"I’m not hurting much," Viviana tried to smile. But another bout of cramps made her eyebrows twitch in pain.
"You don’t have to pretend for me," he rubbed her head. He then sighed. "I just got the news that Evander is dead."
"What?" Viviana was shocked. That was out of nowhere.
"He was killed...Sodomized and killed by Leonardo Vitale," he said.
He thought the timing was bad. But it is good. She will think that everyone is grieving for Evander.
"I’m sorry," Viviana leaned and hugged him.
Leander plopped on her shoulder. "You stink," he said. She smelled like blood.
Viviana let out a dry laugh. "It’s okay to cry. You can cry if you feel like it," she said.
No matter what kind of person Evander was, Leander still is his brother. Death is hurtful.
Leander buried his head in her neck. "Are you not happy?" he asked.
Maybe because she asked him to cry, he felt like crying.
His only brother is dead!
"It doesn’t matter," Viviana said.
If she is not in love with Leander, she would have celebrated with firecrackers and a carnival. She would have sent a big bouquet and a thank you card to Leonardo Vitale for doing a big favor for mankind.
But the man who died a terrible death fitting for his crimes is her husband’s brother. She can hold back on the celebrations and be happy in her heart.
But still, seeing the pain on Leander’s face didn’t let her enjoy that sweet news.
Her place has changed. And so did her feelings.
"You’re sad. And I’m not all that happy," she told him the truth.
