Chapter 251: Painful Night

Vito Vitale left Tabitha in the room and walked out.

"Don, the youngest has..."

"Don’t let him know that I am getting into surgery. He will worry for no reason and will insist he comes here. Let him enjoy himself." Vito Vitale walked away.

He has surgery to get.

The guy who was about to inform Vitale that Leonardo has killed Evander Kastello and that the Kastello family is reaching out to the Vitale family for a negotiation walked back.

Viviana couldn’t ask Mary for more details about the puppies once she was brought inside. So, she ended the call.

"Gabby says she is leaving. She didn’t tell me where though," she told Leander passing the phone.

"Do you want me to do anything?" he asked.

He wanted to know what she thinks of it.

"Nothing," Viviana shrugged.

Gabby seemed confident that she can handle everything alone and she trusted her. For those who don’t have a home, the entire world is a home. She just hoped Gabby doesn’t fall into the hands of vile people.

Leander patted the bed for her to sit beside him. Viviana excused herself and ran to the bathroom.

Ah, I was right... my period...

After cleaning up, Viviana returned. Leander was still waiting for her on the bed. She sat beside him and leaned on him.

"Do you want a phone?" he asked.

She was talking for a long time and she had a beautiful smile. It was good to watch her having a good time with others.

"What do I do with a phone? I don’t even have a handful of people I can talk to..."

Viviana let out a sigh. It made her sad. She used to have almost a thousand phone numbers in her contacts and she received many phone calls from many people regularly. Her life has changed a lot.

"The landline is enough. I only talk to you anyway," she added.

She didn’t want to pass on her "mood" to Leander. She did have a lot of people she was acquainted with. But she was not fulfilled in that life. She chose death.

Now her life has changed. Although she only knows a handful of people and interacts only with them, she is happy and fulfilled. In the end, isn’t that the most important thing?

Leander caressed her hair. Her hold on his was tight and he could see that she was not mad or sad. But he didn’t find this good.

The despondence in her tone was real.

I do not want to keep you trapped inside my house, Minnie, he wanted to tell her.

He wondered about the gloom that surrounds her often. He could see that she was forgetting everything around her when she is outdoors and when she is going for a walk. Even in Orchid Gardens, she is happy in the kitchen and in the garden. She is happy in the bedroom when he is there, but otherwise, she finds happiness in nature.

It would be unfair of him to keep her in even after knowing her preference.

There might be other things that she cannot be happy with. The issue of having a child is still not resolved. He believed he can handle it all one by one.

Leander caressed her hair gently with a smile. This was the first time he is taking care of someone wondering about their needs. It is intimate and yet it was familiar. It was as if it was ingrained in him to care for someone who doesn’t know what she wants.

After all these years, he found someone who cares for him more than she cares for herself and he has a chance to care for her.

He was exhilarated.

She was colder than usual. He checked her and she was wet with perspiration all over. She was sleeping and her eyebrows were furrowed as if she was in pain.

It should be because of her period!

"Minnie," he tried to wake her up. "Eat dinner and take your medications."

She woke up and nodded. His heart broke to see her walking hunched, holding her lower abdomen. Just this morning she was skipping away. She must be in so much pain.

He could only sigh when she pretended to be fine when she noticed him watching her. He didn’t know if she tried to make him less worried or if she feared he might do the hysterectomy on her if she was in too much pain.

Although it was hard for her to eat, Viviana ate something so that she can take the pain medications. Katerina was sad when she heard about her period.

Viviana could only sigh inside her heart. It’s only natural for people to expect for happy news from a recently married couple. But this issue is not in her hands.

Nathaniel came to the house to discuss the surgery and to do some preliminary tests. Viviana wanted to talk to him mostly to confirm that they are not planning to do a hysterectomy.

Nathaniel said what they expected—that they cannot do the surgery now and will have to wait until her period is over.

"I want to get pregnant and so~"

"She is not getting pregnant ever," Leander interjected her.

"I want to have that choice," Viviana said with her eyes trained on Nathaniel.

Nathaniel looked uncomfortable as he knew there was little to no chance for her to be pregnant. "We will discuss it later," he smiled and excused himself.

Viviana didn’t want to argue with Leander and she went straight to bed. He followed her immediately after.

"You will cave in, Leo," she said. She had hope, which was surprising. But she did. She is having hope for a lot of things these days.

"You will..."

"Let’s see," Leander scoffed and pulled her closer to him.

He had no hopes that he will be firm against her for long. He loses to her all the time. From the moment he laid eyes on her, he’s been caving in.

What’s one more thing, right?

In the embrace of his big hands, Viviana tried to fall asleep. The pain was so excruciating, worse than it ever has been. Her lower back felt like it was getting sawed off. The pulsating pain was too much for her to bear.

But she didn’t want to show him her pain too much although she can’t help it. She didn’t want to needlessly worry him.

The medications worked, and she could fall asleep. But only for some time. She woke up in the middle of the night in pain. The bleeding was heavy. She decided to use the bathroom.

She had Leander’s taxi service to the bathroom the last time and she expected it this time too. But Leander was sleeping deeply. He hadn’t even realized that she was sitting on the bed.

He looked so cute, like an innocent baby. Even in her pain, she couldn’t help but adore him for a moment.

Not wanting to disturb the sleeping beauty, she got up. The sheets were soaked in blood.

Nightmare!

She walked to the bathroom and changed. The pain came in waves and she couldn’t bear it. She searched for fresh sheets but couldn’t find them.

Not wanting to waste time, she decided to wake Katerina up. She would know and Viviana desperately needed something for the pain.

She walked down the stairs and she felt like the fresh pad was already soaked. She felt a little disoriented and she grabbed the railings just in case.

Of all the times, why are you sleeping now?

Viviana regretted not waking up Leander. But she saw Katerina’s room lighting up.

"Signora, are you okay?" Katerina walked out.

Viviana carefully got down from the last step. But then a crashing pain that almost numbed her legs made her stagger. That was followed by a heavy flow, one she was not accustomed to.

She could see her lounge pants getting soiled.

"Can I use your bathroom, Katerina," she asked.

"Sure," Katerina held her arms and led her to the bathroom.

Viviana couldn’t even get to the toilet and fell on the floor. Clutching her abdomen, she curled up on the bathroom floor. Her lower back was hurting more. It felt like someone was wringing her as one would do with wet clothes.

She heard a lot of commotion around. Katerina was shouting for Martha and she heard Leander. She was conscious but she was not sure what she heard or saw.

Leander carried her upstairs. He was calling out her name. Martha was following them. The sheets were changed and the doctor was called.

The pain was still worse. Only the big hands of Leander holding her were the little comfort she had. She was still bleeding heavily. It was so intense.

Tears dripped from the corner of her eyes.

I can never be happy, can I?

"It’s okay, Lemon... It’s okay... I’m here..." Leander kissed her forehead. "It’s going to be okay..."

Nathaniel injected her with something. And then she blacked out.
