Chapter 248: Absurd Possibility

Viviana heard the revving engine of the motorbike. She almost ran away but her back was hurting and she didn’t want to exert too much energy.

"Coming?" Leander asked stopping beside her.

Viviana said nothing and climbed behind him. She was worried that he might shout at her if she holds him and so she sat farther back without touching him. She angered him by arguing with him. He does not like it when she argues.

She leaned further back when he removed his helmet. He sighed.

"You’re not wearing your helmet?" he asked.

Viviana shook her head. "I want to feel the wind on my face."

She told him the truth. She thought Leander would not accept her wish but he nodded. He didn’t sigh so Viviana thought that he was not mad at her.

"Hold on to me," he said.

She scooted closer to him and wrapped her arms around his waist readily. Resting her face on his back, she smiled. "I love this..."

Leander wore his helmet and zoomed off. She didn’t have the chance to see his smile. He was happy that his wife doesn’t drag out the fight longer than it should be. They do not see eye to eye in this issue. But it is not going to break them.

Viviana hugged him closer as the motorbike moved. But Leander slowed down almost immediately and drove at a normal speed. "I love you, honey," she rubbed his thigh. She understood that he was going slow because she complained about back pain.

They reached home. Viviana got down first and tried to rush inside. She needed to use the bathroom. But Leander held her hand.

"Do not show your back to me," he said.

"Huh?" Viviana raised her brows. That was an odd request. He’s not the King, is he? But he didn’t look like he was offended. The man who was removing the helmet, looked sad and lonely as he sat on that expensive motorbike.

Viviana got closer to him and met his eyes. She does not like to see him sad.

"If you don’t like what I do, say it to my face. Do not walk away from me when I am talking to you," Leander said.

Although he tried to sound stern, he failed as he met her eyes. Viviana knew this man loved her more than anything. It’s these little things that prove how much she means to him. He fails to order her around lately.

Viviana nodded. Maybe next time, she will finish the conversation and ask for a time-out before walking away.

"I have to pee..." she pointed inside the house. He was still holding her hand.

Leander let go of her hand.

"Thank you," Viviana smiled.

Leander turned on the engine to park the motorbike in the shade. Viviana jumped and pecked his lips. Leander was not expecting that. The motorbike turned off because he forgot to hold the clutch.

Viviana ran inside the house smiling goofily. She loved to see him perplexed. It is amazing that she can surprise him still.

After changing, Viviana stayed in bed for the rest of the day. Leander was sitting beside her with his phone. He was receiving a lot of calls, but he was not answering any of them.

"It’s for you," he passed his phone to her.

Viviana was confused as to who would call her on Leander’s phone. She looked closely at the number blinking on the screen.

It was the landline number.

"Is it Mary?" Viviana got excited. She needed to ask how the puppies were doing.

"I think it’s your friend. She’s planning on escaping..." Leander said.

Friend? Is he meaning Gabby?

Viviana answered the call. It was Gabriella!

"Guess where I am, Gabby!"

Viviana jumped down from the bed out of excitement and ran to the balcony. Gabriella laughed when she told her that she was near Abenney. Gabby then asked her if she was enjoying the vacation.

One conversation led to another and Viviana didn’t know how much time was passing. There were a lot of calls coming from Barnabas.

"Your consigliere is calling," she shouted at Leander peeking in through the door.

Leander shrugged.

Viviana could see that he was not interested in talking and so she continued with the call. She told Gabriella that Leander knows that she is Melanie. Gabriella went silent for some time.

"Did I screw up, Gabby? Did I put everyone in danger?" she asked. She trusted Leander won’t hurt the kids. But she was always wavering.

"Are you happy, Melanie?" Gabriella asked.

Viviana thought for a couple of seconds. Sure, there are a lot of things she worries about. But... "I am the happiest, Gabby. The last time I was this happy was when Leo was alive."

Gabriella sighed. Viviana realized that she brought up Leona again without even thinking.

"I don’t know why I keep on thinking about Leona, Gabby. I feel like I am wrong but I can’t stop my thoughts. They spill out..." Viviana leaned on the railing. "Is it because of this place... Or..."

Gabriella was silent.

Viviana sighed. "When I look into his eyes, I can’t help but think of her, Gabby. I can’t... I can’t stop... It’s like... Sometimes I wonder if Leona’s soul ended up with Leander that day in the fire and that’s why he reminds me of Leona so much. He’s so similar to her that I..."

Viviana bit her lips as she sounded unhinged even to herself. "I’m sorry for being stupid," she said.

"Who knows? You might be right, Melanie... Maybe Leona became Leander," Gabriella said.

"Nah... I’m just being stupid and..." Viviana sighed. She didn’t understand if Gabriella is saying what she thinks she is saying.

How can Leona become Leander? It’s absurd to even think that way!

"How are you doing? Did Lionel call you or tried to contact you again?" Viviana asked to change the subject.

Gabriella sighed. "I successfully pushed him away! Yay!" she shouted.

Even though Viviana couldn’t see her face, she could say that Gabriella was hurting deep inside.

"Maybe there is a chance for you two, Gabby. Maybe he has a way to be with you..."

Gabriella laughed. She sounded so exasperated. "I called you because I wanted to tell you that I am leaving, Melanie... I haven’t decided where to, yet. But I don’t think I will contact you..."

"Me too?" Viviana was sad.

She understood that Gabriella might not want to tell her where she is going because she might think that Leander is recording the call and she doesn’t want Lionel to know. But she was sad to learn that Gabriella was planning on cutting contact with her too.

But she respected her decision.

After that, Mary got the phone and Viviana enthusiastically asked her about the puppies and Juno.
