Chapter 243: A Big Decision
Chapter 243: A Big Decision
Viviana looked around. Other than the necessary furniture the house was mostly empty. He must have meant it when he said that she should fill it with stuff.
But what does she know?
"Wow! I love the kitchen!"
Why wouldn’t she? It had granite countertops. The cabinets were solid wood and the yellow shades brought warmth to the kitchen along with the blue shades that reminded her of the sea. The window was big and the kitchen itself was very spacy.
The modern appliances were all kept in the cabinets. The oven was perfect. There was even a butcher’s block inset which would be perfect to knead the dough for the bread.
Who designed this place? How can there be such a perfect place in this world?
Leander saw her face literally brightening up seeing the kitchen. He loved this house for the location but he wouldn’t have gotten this house if he didn’t like the kitchen. His wife has a great interest in the kitchen. In fact, the only time she put her feet down was to cook.
He smiled. They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. He didn’t think that the way to his wife’s heart is through the kitchen.
"Let’s add a table... right here..." she pointed in the middle of the kitchen. "For you..."
She knew he would love to sit in the kitchen watching her. In the orchid gardens, he would prefer to join her but then he wouldn’t because there would be others and he doesn’t-have many places to sit and be relaxed. This kitchen is big. She can cook and serve him hot if he wants to.
Rather than a kitchen island she loved the idea of a wooden table more. It would give a much warmer feeling.
Leander hugged her around the waist. Of course, the first thing she wants to add to the house is for him.
"I would love to watch you in the kitchen when you cook," he said.
"I know," Viviana smiled and left his embrace to look more.
"Want anything else for the kitchen?" he asked.
"I’ll... there is enough lighting even if there won’t be enough natural lighting..." Viviana said and looked around.
Leander watched her explaining everything she likes about the kitchen with glee. She liked other places in the house. It was an old house and she liked the bedrooms as they were. She didn’t like it when he suggested joining two bedrooms into one to have one big bedroom, but she didn’t want to have a big room. She even was happy with the small bathrooms.
Leander was satisfied seeing her satisfaction. She plopped on the bed and he joined her.
"Isn’t this a King size bed?" she laughed. "With you on it looks smaller than a queen size bed. Do you want a bigger bedroom for a bigger bed?" she asked.
Leander pulled her closer. "I like this better. Smaller bed means the lesser the distance between us..."
She always rolls to the edge of the bed. In this bed, even if she is at the edge of the bed, he could still reach her and pull her to him.
"You would want a study, right?" she asked leaning on his chest. "How would you like it?"
Leander said nothing and rubbed her back softly. He told her to take care of everything. But she was not very sure about it. It made her stressed.
She usually won’t be able to fall asleep when she was stressed but lately, she found that she is sleeping a lot. She is feeling tired all the time because she is sleeping a lot. She should change her habit.
"What do normal parents want from their children?"
Leander asked after a long silence.
"Normal parents?" Viviana was surprised he asked this question. "Speaking from experience... They just want their kids to be happy. They think having a decent education and a stable job would help them settle. A house, getting married... seeing their grandchildren...visiting them for holidays...Mmm, what else?"
Leander kissed her head. "Normal parents wouldn’t want their kids to take a gun in their hands, right?" he asked.
Viviana thought she heard the pain in his voice. But he looked poker-faced. "No, they won’t. They’d cry and feel sad if their kids join the gangs..."
She told the truth. "Did your family want you to take arms?" she asked.
Leander nodded. "My father wanted me to be included in the family and he..."
It is weird when he thinks about it. He was in his early teens and he wasn’t very keen on anything. But his father brought him everywhere and practically forced him into the business. His grandfather started to appreciate him the more he contributed to the family.
"Do you regret it?" she asked. He looked like he was regretting the past.
Leander hugged her closely, hiding his face in her neck. "I am in too deep to regret anything now..."
Viviana let out a deep breath. He is regretting. She felt sad for him. He is right that he is in it deep. He cannot come out of this life easily.
"I do not want a child, Minnie," he said rubbing her back.
Viviana held her breath. This is a sensitive topic and he is opening up to her about this for the first time. Her heart started to race but his heart was beating steadily. She wanted to ask why but her throat closed with all the emotions.
Did he decide this way because of her state?
"I cannot give my child a normal childhood. My son will have to take arms whether he likes to or not. As long as he has my surname, he will be in constant danger. There will be people who expect him to be a certain way. He will try and take my path. He will, for sure. It’s worse if it is a daughter. She’ll have to..." he sighed.
"But Leander... your friend got out!" she reminded him.
She was glad he does not want his path for his children. But that is not a reason for him not to have children.
"Did he?" Leander sighed. "He’s not even half-out yet..."
Viviana fiddled with his shirt button. It was sad for her to hear him speaking in such a despondent tone. But the main issue is...
"Will you decide the same if I am normal, Leander?" she asked. She wanted to look at him but she didn’t have the guts to do so. His eyes are scary when she is feeling down.
’Yes," Leander answered almost immediately. "I used to think that it was part of my duty to have children; to make my grandfather happy. But lately..."
He is not very impressed with his grandfather these days. If his grandfather does not respect his wife, how can he expect him to give him an heir? He was not interested in putting aside his heart aside for his grandfather’s sake anymore.
"What will happen to the Kastello family then?" Viviana asked.
He didn’t let her see his face. But the words he was speaking were heavy. She didn’t know what he was thinking. Evander cannot have kids. If Leander is not having kids either, then...
The Kastello family will end!
This is what she wanted until some months ago.
Is it really happening?
