Chapter 242: Lemon Heights
Leander noticed the fear in her eyes. He sighed. It hurt to see the fear in her eyes. That means she sees him as Kastello.
He held her hand and smiled.
It’s okay if she is scared of his surname. His family did a despicable thing to her. She lost everything because of them.
What he can do is to ease her into accepting him including his family. She’s saying the amazing things like she’d make him a cake for his every birthday and that he has her.
The least he could do is to accept her fear for his family. It’s not unfounded when she still sees him as an extension of his family.
If asked a couple months ago, he would have proudly puffed his chest and said that he is a Kastello. But now... he’s not so sure.
He kissed her hand. "We’re almost there," he said. Her almond eyes brightened up. There it was... the usual excited smile on her face.
She’s not that unreasonable. She loves him a little too much to let the fear for his family stop her from smiling at him.
Viviana watched him closely. He dialed someone.
"Now," he told someone.
Viviana gasped at the bright light that tore through the night sky just behind Leander.
A house!
She pointed her finger at the house decorated entirely with fairy lights. The stone wall around the house was lit brightly. Waves were crashing on the rock around the house. There was a boathouse and a dock.
The house was situated almost three hundred meters from the outer stone wall. She saw a garden in front of the house.
The house was smaller compared to Orchid Gardens. But it was prettier even in the dark.
"That’s a pretty house!" Viviana couldn’t help but smile.
The yacht got closer to the house and Viviana walked closer to have a good look. She could see St. Michael’s Church at the distance. On a good day she could hear the bells of the church.
She figured this must be outskirts of Abenney. She’s never been to these parts. Although she had a nagging feeling in her heart as she was unsure why Leander brought her to Abenney, she was excited to see the house.
He smiled so sweetly. She didn’t think he has any ill-intent to bring her here. It might even be a safety issue. Abenney is one of the forts of the Kastello family.
"Are we staying here tonight?" she asked.
The yacht had docked by then and they were preparing to get down.
"Do you like it?" Leander asked jumping out of the yacht. He held out her hand to help her.
"Like? I love it even though I’ve only seen just bits of this place! How did you find this place? I can’t wait to look around!"
Viviana couldn’t stop speaking as she was very excited. Leander couldn’t stop smiling seeing her so excited.
"It’s your house," Leander said holding her hand. "Happy birthday!"
He expected her to jump up in glee and hang on his shoulders kissing him and thanking him for this beautiful birthday gift that he poured his heart into.
But she was frozen still with panic.
"What?" he shook her shoulders to get her out of her trance.
She inhaled sharply and looked at him with her eyes filled to the brim with tears. "Did I..." she choked. "Why suddenly?" she asked taking a step back. "Are we not okay? You said nothing..."
"Uh?" Leander didn’t understand a thing. He got annoyed seeing the tears on her face. He shouldn’t have brought up her birth mother. And now she is crying for no reason.
"Why am I getting exiled here?" Viviana asked.
When he told her that she now has a house, she didn’t see that coming. He is justified if he thinks that she cannot share his house. But this is out of nowhere. There were no signs leading up here.
"Pfft..." Leander couldn’t control his laughter. "Adorable idiot..."
He carried her and walked into the house. The house was at an elevated place from the dock. From the dock, stairs lead up to the house. The landscaping was still unfinished in the yard.
Leander let her down on the porch. There were vines around the big arched front door. The wooden door had a plaque hanging on it.
LEMON HEIGHTS
Viviana looked at him for answers. It’s a nice name for the house. She still didn’t know what he was trying to say. Leander chuckled seeing her
"Sweet Lemon," he pinched her cheek. "This is your house because I bought it in your name," he said.
"Uh?" Viviana’s jaws fell to her chest.
A house in my name? Why would I want that?
"It’s registered under your name but we can have this as our holiday home," Leander added.
"Then you should have told me that this is our house!" Viviana shouted. "Why did you make me worry for no reason? I don’t care about the name in the record!"
It’s his money and it’s his house. Does it matter whose name is on the official paper?
What’s the use of this house in her name? She cannot even give him children to carry his name. Does she even deserve this?
Leander sighed. She was a lot more excited about a rose than a house. He should be happy that she is not materialistic. But he was not.
He registered this house in her name specifically to boost her confidence level. But it looks like it did nothing to her. He wanted her to claim things as her own. Sometimes she worries him by not having an interest in material things. He has a lot of money. And yet she never claims his money as hers. She mentions the orchid gardens as his house. She mentions her clothes as his too because he bought them with his money.
Why can’t she accept his money as hers? She is his wife, isn’t she? She is entitled to his money.
At least she likes this house.
Viviana looked at Leander. He looked a little down.
"I am sorry..." she hugged him. "When you said it was my house, I thought you were leaving me here alone. It’s..."
"I know you don’t like the interior of Orchid Gardens. You can design this house as you please," he said.
Viviana nodded. She was not very sure about that. What does she like anyway?
"Let’s go inside!" Viviana smiled and pulled him inside the house. She wanted to look around.
