Chapter 238: The Confession (2)
Viviana shook her head. He didn’t promise her the one thing she asked for. So, why should she do what he asks of her? She didn’t have the guts to face him and bowed her head.
"You won’t?" he asked.
He sounded disappointed. She couldn’t bear it. "I don’t want to jinx it, Leander. Everyone who loved me..." she lifted her head up and met his eyes. "...are dead."
He scoffed. There was a cocky smirk hanging by his lips as if she said something absurd. Maybe for him, her suggestion that fate takes away people who love her from her is absurd. But for her, it’s her experience and hence the truth.
"I’m not dying," he said. "Look at me," he pinched her chin to make her face him. "I am not going to die just because you love me. I will not allow that to happen. I want to live a long life, with you."
"Just now you..." Viviana gulped. She could see he was trying to be patient with her although he considers her idea to be terrible. That’s how much he loves her. He can put up with her stupidity.
But she is right.
"You jumped without thinking into the sea FOR ME. And the other day, you were so careless, showing your back to your enemy. Am I wrong to worry?" she asked.
Leander cleared his throat. He did jump into the sea without any plans. And in his attempt to see if she got impressed with his bravado, he turned his back on Leonardo. She is right. Again.
But that doesn’t mean she makes sense.
Viviana observed him as he was thinking deeply. She knew that he didn’t find her reluctance absurd. She is talking the truth here.
"I was wr-..."
Leander pressed his lips stopping himself from saying ’wrong’. He didn’t want to be wrong. Then she will think that she is right.
"I’ll be careful in the future. I promise," he placed his hand on his heart. "Those two incidents proved to me how much you love me, Lemon... I also learned that I am safe with you. You’d put your life in danger for me, which I do not condone, and...I also learned that you swim beautifully as a mermaid," he held her cheeks with a smile and pecked on her lips.
Viviana couldn’t control her smile as he flattered her again. She loved it when he called her ’Lemon’. Mermaid...? Seriously? This guy hides honey under his tongue.
Leander saw the sweet smile crawling on her lips and kissed her. "What you are denying me right now is my happiness to hear those words from your lips..."
Viviana’s heart squeezed hearing his side. But she has kind of lost the moment to say those romantic words to him. "No, that’s not~"
He placed his finger on her lips. "You faint when I confess. And you’re making me beg... You’re something," he stood up and left.
Viviana buried her face in her knees. "At least uncuff me..." she mumbled.
She thought he wouldn’t hear her. All she does is successfully break his heart and still, he is being patient with her.
One day, his patience might wane, and then... what will be of her if he could move on? She’d be left alone...
"The key is under the pillow," he said.
"I thought you didn’t want me to jump into the sea," she mumbled again, looking for the key. "Why did you keep it in a very obvious place?"
He hears her. Always. But he doesn’t listen at times.
"Did you look?" he looked at her. The warm light made a glint in his eyes and along with the magnetic smirk, he looked so handsome. "The key is right under your nose. You never look for anything," he said.
What deep words! And he is right too. She’s met with failures and she had numbed her heart to believe that she will never find what she needs.
But maybe he is right. Everything might be right under her nose.
She got the key and tried to unlock the handcuff. No matter how much she tried she couldn’t. She could only sigh. Even with the key, she cannot unlock herself. She is that pathetic.
"Were you always this way? Or did the concussion do it to you?"
Viviana looked at Leander walking to her. Why is he so perfectly observant? Although he is annoying, he is very caring.
"I’m born this way... I was never meant to survive. Why do you even like me?" she asked.
Leander shook his head in disbelief. "You’re stumbling only when it comes to you. When it comes to others, you’re pretty thoughtful and quick-witted. You become brave. Why can’t you love yourself more?"
Viviana pressed her lips. She still couldn’t see anything in herself that she could love.
Leander unlocked the cuff. "I left the key here because I knew of the way to get you back even if you jump into the sea," he said.
"Really?" Viviana scoffed. "I would have been out of your sight before you could say stop."
Leander smirked and stood up. She’s such a cute little fool. Even if she jumped into the sea to swim away from him, she would have returned immediately once she notices him in the water.
He didn’t know if she realizes it. She loves him more than anything; even more than the hate she once had for him. He knows that. He could see it in her eyes and even through the insecurities in her heart, he could see that shining bright love in her heart—the love she has for him that gives him the courage to move mountains for her.
He didn’t want to tell her that. She would get distressed. "You’re very cute, honey," he knocked on her head softly. "I love you."
Viviana fell into his dark pools of mystique. His eyes held a mystery every time she looks at them. He turned to leave.
"Leander," She held his hand to stop him.
He turned and faced her.
"I love you. I...I don’t know how much or how deep my love for you is...It is probably incomparable to yours. But I do love you," she said.
Leander kissed her hand.
Even in her confession, she has to put her down.
What can I do with you, my sweet lemon?
